Multiple Emmy winner Kathryn Joosten, best known for her roles on Desperate Housewives and The West Wing died after an 11 year battle with lung cancer Saturday. She was 72.
As someone pointed out elsewhere, she started on DH when she was 59 and by the time she died she'd won two Emmys, so it's almost never too late to follow your dreams!
She did an episode the first season of Scrubs that made me cry like a baby. Whenever I saw her this last season on DH, I got all choked up because I knew she was end-stage. RIP, sweet lady.
She had given interviews stating that she was doing fine, but I always wondered. I thought she looked end stages too. Her Johnny Mathis record to leave this earth was classic! Truly enjoyed Ms Joosten. Wonderful but sad death scene on the show...
How did she start on Desperate Housewives at 59 and die at 72. DH wasn't on the air for 13 years.
But she was an amazing actress and I was wondering if her cancer was back because her looking sickly and dying on the show was just a bit too convincing for me
I really admire this woman. She was very ill while filming the final episodes of DH, and she was basically playing herself; a very strong but very ill woman. I find it very brave she was able to that, since it is superpainful to basically play your own death while you know it will happen in real life too, and very soon. RIP Kathryn
I didn't know she was sick, and I didn't know she was only 72. She always looked much older than my parents seem to be to me. (Maybe my parents look older to people who aren't their children....)
If she was not a smoker, do they know what caused the lung cancer?
And I still can't get my sister who is nearing 30 years as a smoker to quit.
ReplyDeleteawww this is sad, had no idea she was ill. Glad she was able to finish Desperate Housewives.
ReplyDeleteRIP
:( liked her. RIP

ReplyDeleteawww RIP that means she was dying during the finale?
ReplyDeleteI remember when her character was killed off on the West Wing. That was a multiple-hankie episode.

DeleteShe was the best part of the show, by far. She was a great example of "it's never too late to follow your dreams."
