It's A Jubilee

Millions of people turned out to watch Queen Elizabeth and 1,000 boats go down the Thames in celebration of her 60 years on the throne. If she makes it to 75 years on the throne I don't know what the country will do to top this. Maybe have David Beckham give her a lap dance? Can I say that? Is that improper? #nochanceofgettingknightednow #drinkingginallday

    1. We made a game out of the bbc coverage. Everyone they mentioned RAIN we drank! Made the whole (long) programme much more enjoyable. And with Monday and Tuesday bank holidays. No hangover worries!

  2. don't give a flip about this, but i do think it's sweet and i did love kate's alexander mcqueen. (i hope kim k. takes note that wearing the correct size in this particular dress is always the way to go. skanking it out in a size too small only makes you look, well...skanky). #kateworeitbetter

  3. Can't believe I missed the Horrible Histories sketch - That's the only reason I'd have watched it!

  4. Congrats to Queeny, and long may she reign - if only so that her idiot eldest son never ends up on the throne.

Having said that, it's all that's been on TV since 9am (ten hours ago now). It's kind of like living in the Soviet Union just after the president died, and they'd just play solemn music for a week or so. It was so boring that at one point I went out and watched Prometheus.

  6. British royalty is working very hard on their PR and its working. Ive always loved the princes, even (especially) when Prince Hot Ginge is being bad.

  8. Seeing the union jack everywhere was disgusting. As disgusting as the US flags that were flying everywhere after 9/11. At least the Brits will be taking down their flags as soon as the celebrations are over.

  12. @SusanB, the way I look at it that no matter who is actually paying for this, it is probably doing booming buisiness for alot of companies and even small buisiness. The guy running the hot dog stand is probably making the most money in one day than he has in the past month.

  13. #nochanceofgettingknightednow is the best tag ever, Enty.

I think bringing so many people together and giving them such a great sense of community and tradition is a worthy way to spend some tax dollars. But then, I'm a 'damned tax-and-spend liberal.'

  14. I enjoyed the hell out of watching this. I used to participate in Fleet Week when I lived in NYC, so this brought back fond memories.

But with all the news coverage devoted to this event, the most important issue was left unaddressed-
    Where was Chelsy Davy???

  15. I loved the steam train at the beginning and the choir that sang through the torrential rain backed by the Palm Court Orchestra!!!. Also loved all the boats that were powered by humans with oars. I live in Wales and don’t know of any street celebrations in my area.......but it didn’t matter. My family has had many sailors and submariners in previous times. I quite like rain and the sea and there was plenty of both. Those old working boats brought a tear to my eye and a swelling in my chest.......where pride lives. If you can’t do stuff outdoors then move inside and do indoor stuff. Simple....isn’t it?

That bitch Camilla wore white (or ivory, same difference) just like the queen. Even Camilla's hat was like the queen's, just bigger. Since the queen wore white, and Kate wore red, I'm guessing Camilla was told to wear blue, but wouldn't do it. The queen was not amused. You could see the contempt on her face.

  17. A friend of mine on Facebook who is a huge anglophile is over there now and from his posts, it's as if he's died and gone to heaven.

  18. I'm a bit of an anglophile and watched half of it live on BBC America. I wish they would replay the whole thing since I missed the first half. The Queen has contempt for Camilla? That makes me smile. When I see the boys and Kate smile at her it makes me think she got away with it.

  20. Ohhhh, so there really is a jubilee thingy in the UK! I had to call a publisher in London and they said everyone was closed for jubilee.

  21. Love her Maj. Camilla is great, please stop lambasting her. Charles should have been allowed to marry a divorcee/catholic from the start, so none of this crap with that psycho maniac Diana could have gone on. Their two sons are the only good thing to have come from their travesty of a marriage.

For those of you interested, I believe the royal family cost me way less than any ruling government do, plus the RF have no real power whatsoever in what happpens in UK. They are relatively cheap to maintain and have given companies who would otherwise have been closed down a lease of life, together with the olypmics that cannot be disregarded in the current worldwide economic downturn. The revenue generated from the RF would be greatly missed and I would be required to make up for it, as you can be assured, it would NOT be used to any good by any government in power.
