Clive Barker Infected Boyfriend With HIV And Then Dumped Him

If a lawsuit is to be believed, horror writer Clive Barker infected his boyfriend with the HIV virus and also kicked him out of the house they shared for 14 years. After a commitment ceremony in 1996, the boyfriend says that Clive sat him down and told him he was HIV+. The boyfriend then tested positive. Apparently Clive sleeps around a lot. Like new guys constantly and got the HIV virus.

Oh, and this gets waaaaay better. Clive also dated his male cousin who had died of AIDS, and Barker has a fetish for syringes and using them on his partners. That sounds safe doesn't it?

You think that is it? Nope. Back in 2003, Barker got addicted to every kind of drug you can think of. I mean this is Lindsay Lohan's dream addiction medicine cabinet. Meth? Yep. Coke? Yep. Vicodin? Yep. I feel like the guy on Storage Wars right now. Yep. Yep. Yep. Anyway, Barker had a few more he was addicted to also. In 2009, the boyfriend was kicked out of the home they shared and was given nothing despite promises that Barker made that he would take care of him forever.

Note to everyone out there. Get married. Don't just live with someone if you get over the one or two year mark. Actually marry them. Protect yourself.

  1. You're cray cray with the marriage talk.

  2. I don't see how marriage is going to offer you extra protection from someone who is going to do this kind of thing.

  3. Every time I think I should get married I take a look at Craigslist Casual Encounters.

  4. He is talking about protecting yourself legally/financially. Not saying if you get married you won't get cheated on and given HIV.

  5. Enty, ahem...
Not all couples are allowed to get married. Now methinks you already know that ...

  6. Thanks for the clarification seaward. Makes sense now, although I don't think it would have helped in this case because the marriage wouldn't have been legally binding then, and maybe it still wouldn't. California has been back and forth a lot on this issue and I'm not sure where it stands now.

  7. If he knowingly has unprotected sex with someone after being diagnosed HIV+, it is a crime. Asshole needs to be arrested and put in prison.

  8. Kinda tough to marry your same sex partner to "protect yourself" if the state you live in does not recognize SS marriage! DUH!

  9. Barker's partner must have issues of his own to be attracted to such a messed up person.

  10. Okay, if this partner was told in Oct of 1996 to get tested and stayed in the relationship until he was booted in 2009... I guess that means Barker was honest about his condition. The rest sounds like any other domestic dispute for money. Not saying he shouldn't get any, but it doesn't sound like Barker deceived him to me.

  11. This is worse than CB's books and movies COMBINED.

  12. I'm with @Moosefan. Clive is more of a monster than any character he's created.

  13. I've read a few of his early books/short stories and I knew the guy was dark because some of that shit is downright creeptastic (Rawhead Rex the short story, not the movie, still conjures up some unpleasant thoughts concerning members of the clergy and urinating demons), but this is beyond insane.

  14. Enty--why would you expect marriage could protect you from this? No one cheats and has unprotected sex after marriage?

  15. Barker like Thierry Mugler are two sick fucks. Barker fucked everything that moved in WeHo. Mugler used to make male models shit on him, and house orgies during fashion week.

  16. Didn't Clive Barker and his boyfriend adopt a daughter or did he have a daughter from a previous relationship? Does anyone know? If so, what the hell kind of life could she have experienced? Scary.

    1. The daughter was the "partner's" from a previous relationship and she lived there with them.

  17. Did Barker date HIS cousin who died from AIDS or the boyfriend's cousin? Not that either one is better.

  18. I shouldn't eat lunch while viewing these comments, ick!
And a shout-out to Storage Wars. I don't watch much TV, but I'm addicted, yup! Love some Barry!

  19. I think some of you are missing the point of Ent's advice - he's talking to US, the readers, not talking ABOUT Clive and his victim. If you have a long-term relationship and something happens, whether it's a split or death, you're screwed. Now, it may be legal if there is a will and the partner is taken care of that way, but getting his or her pension? Nope. I'm sure there are other variables, too, that you miss out on.

  20. I'm wondering about the "get married" remark, too. My honey and I are about to pass the 2.5-year mark and we're happily unmarried!

  24. Sometime in the last year, there was a story, possibly on TMZ, about someone very famous being sued for having given their partner HIV. The person in the court document was listed as John Doe. They only filed the lawsuit after trying to settle the case quietly, and unsuccessfuly. I wonder if this was the case.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I read this as Clive Owen at first and had a WTF moment. I don't know who Barker is but he sounds like a terrible person.

  26. Syringe fetish...there are enema syringes, etc... videos online will guide you...there are pictures of people being injected...I'm assuming that is what Enty is talking about. & Enty is right about the marriage talk to some degree, unless that person has terrible credit, which is why I'm not married :) lol.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I get what he is saying but this guy would not have been able to "protect himself" because same-sex marriage wasn't legal for him--maybe...but sounds unlikely he could have gotten some kind of settlement or contract for support--but the motto of the story is out of synch with reality and it sounds like this guy got more than screwed over--and that there was not a huge amount he could have done to fix the situation he was in back then.

Oh, I haaaate Dave so much! I want to strangle him! Barry is a sweetie and I love him. Soooo cute.

Fordell is right -- if someone has HIV/AIDS and has sex with someone w/o telling them beforehand, that is a crime. It's at least assualt, sometimes considered attempted murder.

Also, couldn't Barker's former partner sue him for palimony?

    ReplyDelete
  29. HIV is no longer a death sentence and is no longer considered chargeable for attempted murder.

At best it is Aggravated Sexual Assault and carries the same punishment as spreading herpes.

  30. Re: the marriage comment, Enty is (for once) saying what a real lawyer would tell you - there is a big gap in the laws of many countries regarding division of property for unmarried cohabitants. In most cases the legal scheme has not caught up to the relatively modern phenomenon of tons of couples living together, sometimes for years, with children and properties and whatnot, without being married. You can get super screwed over.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I read this too as Clive Owen and was like WHAAATTT?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Enty's comment about marriage was about the fact that the boyfriend was kicked out of their house without any money, even though Clive had promised to support him financially. It's not about the disease. But yes, it doesn't make much sense here, because before 2009 it would've been pretty hard for them to get married.

  33. Having read quite a few of his books, IMO there is a difference between the earlier work and the crap from the past few years. Which really sucks cause he wrote some really good books(if you are into that genre).

  34. I have a friend who WILLINGLY 'took' his partner's HIV virus, because they were gonna be together forever, and were tired of having to be so careful.
They broke up about 6 months after that. When my friend admitted that he'd willingly accepted the virus, I almost slapped him. Now he slaps himself.
His boyfriend turned out to be nothing but a user & big time cheater who hated condoms, and convinced my friend to get HIV for his convenience.

Btw, the guy who gave it to my friend was the head of our city health dept's HIV task force, or whatever. Incredibly irresponsible.

  35. I firmly believe that if you knowingly infect someone with an illness that can kill them, you should be charged with murder,
If you 'didn't know' then it's manslaughter.
Get thee to the test center, folks.
Being the person on the opposite end (the one who is infected) is NOT a good place to be.

Jax, where do you get your info? That's not the case anywhere I've ever heard of.

  37. "HIV is no longer considered chargeable for attempted murder".

    Not true in the USA.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Says he was told of status AFTER the commitment ceremony. Doubt they were celibate before the ceremony. Sounds like Mr. Barker is a douche!!!

  39. not so surprised to hear mr Barker is kind of a weird asshole seeing his stories but it still hurts that he's such a terrible person.

  40. In Dallas, a man was convicted to many years in prison for having sex with women and not telling them he was HIV positive. He infected several woman. He will more than likely die in prison, which is a deserving punishment. Apparently, the DNA of the virus can be tracked through blood samples, so authorities can verify the virus transmission from an individual. It was a rather big news story at the time.

  42. Am I reading this wrong? In 1996, both aware of HIV, break up in 2009, that's hardly giving him HIV then kicking him out. Attention grabbing, misleading headline. Gee, I'm shocked!

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Steppy, if that is true, than Barker has a civil defamation suit.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The V in HIV stands for virus. No need to say "HIV virus", that is redundant.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @libby, that is totally crazy...your poor friend. I know people (myself included at one time) who could have easily made such a decision under the illusion of love.

And Enty is definitely referring to marriage from a legal protection standpoint. But, for those who can't marry, or are happier without the relationship on paper, there are other ways to protect yourself - leasing together, adding your name to the mortgage, etc. And in Florida, even if you AREN'T on the deed or lease, you can still come back to the property with law enforcement ONE TIME to retrieve anything that belongs to you. This happened to a girlfriend of mine, who finally threw her crazy boyfriend out. When they came to the house, he started packing up things that weren't his (i.e. he didn't purchase them - SHE did) and the cops told my friend there was nothing they could do because he lived there with her, it was HIS residence as well.

Receipts aren't just for the IRS.

And NEVER become financially dependent on someone else without having a backup plan.

  46. How do people like Barker & those that publish his work lay their head on the pillow at night and sleep? The more I read about the behavior of celebrities the more I believe all that crap & dreck about SRA, MKUltra & the like. We are breeding sociopaths & allowing them to manifest the sickness in there minds via film & television for all the world to digest...some of these negative sounds & images are hard to get out of ones head. Why are the worst dregs of society allowed to make films & music? The mind is a very delicate machine - esp. the subconscious & these !uckers are implanting b.s via celluloid & sound frequency. Only choice is to BOYCOTT these a$$holes and all of their work. These soul-less individuals deserve everything bad that comes to them. Shame on you Clive Barker you depraved demonic humanoid.
