Ann Curry Says Goodbye

When Today makes a decision, they make it quickly. You start talking about someone getting fired and within a week they are gone. It is kind of the same way that Tom Cruise and other Scientologists end relationships and marriages. Just get it over with, forget it and move on to the next sucker. Ann Curry said goodbye this morning on Today. She has been there forever, but not that long as a host. I don't blame the sliding ratings on her. I think Today just has become stagnant and Good Morning America was willing to do some stunt casting for their hosts and has a different formula which held on to the viewers after the stunt casting. Today feels like it is on 8 hours a day so I can tune in anytime to watch it and see what I missed earlier. I think the fact that no one is watching NBC the night before also hurts them when it comes to promos.

  1. Hum....

On another subject, cure for a huge hangover anyone? Plus I only slept one hour and a half... An I HAVE to Work. No chance of sleeping.

    Please help...

  2. Lots of water, a Tylenol, and something greasy for breakfast used to work for me. In my case, that breakfast was usually what our local deli called a "Mojo Risin'" (hot chili, fried potatoes, scrambled egg, cheese, bacon, and Tabasco sauce on a NY-style hard roll.)

    Hope that helps!

  3. @ LeGrange - been there myself. I have plenty of suggestions to prevent a hangover, but once it's started I'm clueless. Good luck though!

  4. Lots of non-alchol liquids and bland foods. If you're that down then move on to greasy stuff.

  5. Lemon-lime Gatorade , as much as you can. Hydrate and eat something . If you were at home I'd suggest hair of the dog.

  6. My favorite hangover cure was marijuana, cocaine, some kind of opiate painkiller, a drink, and a cup of coffee. Or tea. You don't want to be too invested in coffee.

  7. Try a bottle of water, 2 advil and then hit up a greasy burger ASAP. I add a sweet tea in there too for a jolt of sugar. Works for me.

Ann has every right to feel hurt. Today threw her under the bus with all the media leaks last week. The ratings were not her fault. Classy lady too. I would have taken my 10 mill and gave them the finger on my way out the door.

  8. Smoke some weed, chug a lot of water and take some ibuprofen. And make sure you eat some super greasy food.

  9. She handled it well and they looked like ASSES.

  10. Thanks guys, and thanks @Barton, but I think I'll pass on the drugs today! LOL

I really want some greassy stuff. Am already on the gatorade! Hope it works... Feel really bad...

  11. Gatorade, Chinese food w/lots of rice, Tums and Tylenol....then lots of coffee!

  12. Ann's tears were real IMO. Her feelings were hurt, they discarded her quickly. Mean.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, the drugs are a bad way to fix a hangover. Get well! Water, rest, close eyes periodically, avoid flashing lights, and smile a lot.

  14. Going for some filet a parmeggiana today! :). Huuum

  15. Poor Ann isn't exactly getting her swan song on the West Coast feed. The Supreme Court ruled on the Health Care reform, so Matt and Savannah G are doing a special report which is interrupting the original broadcast that you guys saw on the East Coast.

That being said, Savannah seems likable enough, but my disdain for Matt is now palpable. You sir, are a douchenugget. Good day

  16. And I wish Ann Curry would've taken the payoff and left the network too. They treated her horribly, and I know she can find work elsewhere. However, the correspondant position seems to suit her perfectly, and I'd be pretty stoked to not have to wake up at 3:30 a.m for my J.O.B

  17. I'm not a fan of Ann, but I stopped watching Today years ago. My Dallas Fox morning show is really fun and is always rated higher than any national morning show.

That being said, it's MSNBC all day everyday until the election is over.

  18. @Sherry, we have a life long ban on MSNBC !

    Thank God for baseball :)

  19. I was a fan of Ann when she did the news but i wasn't when she sat next to Matt, but i still liked her and she got the shaft on this one! Oh and she called Matt glib on her interview last night HA!!
Matt is probably pissed about it, then again he got what he wanted so i guess not!!! Karma Matt, Karma!!

  20. Greasy food, water, aspirin and a multi vitamin always helped my hangovers.

As for Ann, it was only a week? Seemed like this was dragging on FOREVER!

@Agent*it -- we also have the same ban.

  21. I am so glad she was able to let it all go and leave with class and grace. How hard it was to watch.
It was mean to keep her on with all the rumors and I'm sure it was humiliating to sit next to them all every morning.

  22. Hangover cure AND prevention: Pedialyte has handy little packets of powder that you mix in 8 ounces of water and chug. It's generally used for babies/kids that get diarrhea to replenish their electrolytes. The majority of the symptoms of a hangover are from dehydration.

To prevent the hangover in the first place, drink one of these before you go out and when you come home. To feel better from a hangover, drink 1-2 in the morning.

I tested this in Vegas last month and it TOTALLY works!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Agent and Susan - we've just gone ahead and banned the entire 24 hour news cycle and all related channels. Except in the case of an extreme emergency. Like God forbid another 9/11 or something. And our home is a better place for it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Cannot stand Ann - however, she has been treated pretty bad and Matt Lauer sounds like the ultimate douche. I feel a bit sorry for her but then remember the shitty jobs I had and think that 10 MILLION dollars would make it easier to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I feel horrible for Ann and all the "let's trash Ann" business. I hope that's what she wanted - if it were me I think I'd have passed on the long goodbye.

    Everyone already knows what's up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It was so obvious this morning that Ann is a real professional, but even she could not hide her animosity toward Matt. And I can't say I blame her! She could barely look at him, and I'll just bet she wanted to stab him when he kissed her cheek (because she wouldn't turn toward him). He really is an entitled jerk. Then she was so warm to Al and Natalie. I cried right along with her!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Matt came out looking like a total dick on this one. Could he have been any more insincere this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wish Ann all the best. She was hosed. The ratings slide weren't all her fault.

I have stopped all news (except local) for a few months now. I listen to Jim Rome and ESPN instead. Sports are my God.

    Water. Food. Advil. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Frufra, come September, all network/cable news will be banned until after the election in our house. Thank God the baseball playoffs go well into October.I used to complain about that, not this year:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Agent*it - seems like the World Series goes a week or so into November - that should cover the election nicely! I leave Fox or CNN on as background noise during the day. After 9/11, I worry about missing something. And occasionally, something really interesting comes up.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was no fan of Ann as co-host of this show and am glad to see her leave. She wasn't a good fit for this role - way too over the top emotionally and at times unprofessional. HOWEVER, she handled herself with class and grace throughout this entire episode and for that I have respect for her. She's a good "in the field" journalist and I wish her well in her next assignment and hope she has more success.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Now find someone really good so we can see the last of Matt..

    ReplyDelete
  33. LeGrange, sure hope you are feeling better by now! In case you're not, a McCrapper's cheeseburger & Coke ALWAYS helped me. I've also heard good things about Pedialyte.

As for Ann, I like her and am not familiar with the whole story, but if she's getting $10 million to leave then I cant muster up too much sympathy. There are many (I dont know a ballpark number) other people losing jobs that arent receiving crap.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I feel like Ann has been scapegoated. I didn't see it this morning. If my husband goes to work early, I don't turn the tv on all day. I live out in the woods and I want to hear the birds and squirrels and frogs not the garbage that passes for news these days. I'm also sure that my FB newsfeed will be ruined today. All the Republican FB "friends" will be on there ranting about how having to have health insurance is a sign of the eff-ing apocalypse. God forbid poor people be able to go to a doctor instead of the emergency room when they get sick.

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL, RJ, Romney's already been on saying he will repeal Obamacare! I'm in MA and he's the one who started required insurance here.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Is Matt really so well loved? I can't stand him. He is one of those guys who physically has nothing you want to look at; skinny, little, balding, no shoulders. The only thing big about this guy is his ego and his pretentious laugh. Every time I see a photo of Matt laughing I want to vomit.
Maybe the Today show needs to find an anchor that's less douchey and doesn't fuck every woman on set.

    ReplyDelete
  37. what viewers are watching the night before is a great point. I prefer GMA because I love me some Robin and George. And the news guy is super cute and I love the fabu Sam Champion. There's just something there that works. I at least want to feel like I'm getting a drop or 2 of news in the morning and Today just feels silly ALL the time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Loved your post RJ, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hangover cure is LOTS of water, Advil (or similar) and greasy food.

The body language in her goodbye clip says it all to me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @RJ, Pay no attention to any of them. The ruling does not matter. It will make little difference to America in the short run, and no difference in the long run. Why? Because almost all elected Republicans and Democrats are Big Government politicians – in all things – including health care:)

    @Libby, I said that nicely, didn't I?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've already left Today for Charlie Rose over at CBS, but it had nothing to do with Ann. I feel for her, and kudo her for toughing this out - it's almost like she stuck it to Lauer by not going quietly into that good night. I wonder if she'll be totally excised from the year-end highlight video they always put together.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What Josie said.

I love the new CBS morning show with Charlie Rose & Gail King & Erica Hill. There's a great balance between the hosts and the show content. I think the show has added something new and fresh to morning news, and I think they've raised the bar.

    ReplyDelete
  43. @ LeGrange - hope you're feeling better by the time y ou read this. Lots of water, a multivitamin, Gatorade and keep slamming the water all day; it's the dehydration that gets you.

I always liked Ann when she was doing the news rather than human interest stories. We are going to have to suffer with Matt for a long time to come. It IS a boy's club after all.

  44. Sad

    She had her dream job

  45. I love how NBC execs are blaming everyone but themselves for the crappy programming and ratings they've been pulling in lately. Though I'm not a huge Ann Curry fan, it's hardly her fault.

For those talking about the Supreme Court ruling, my cousin who is a constitutional law student got there at 4:45 and was admitted and was able to witness the vote. He's even quoted in an article at ABC News. Very proud of him! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. What a great group- where else can you find in 1 thread :how to deal instantly with a hangover; how much we collectively intensively dislike Matt; how some of us are banning tv news; and how we have a reader who actually had a relative at the Supreme Court for the ruling, live and in person!

(@meg, good for him, I enjoy constitutional law !)

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Meg - holy smokes, that's cool! He got to see the vote - WOW! I've only been there as a tourist when the Court wasn't in session. I'm also a Constitutional law buff - pretty sexy, eh? I also garden, raise chickens, and make rugs, so pretty much the whole package.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Frufra, I'm taking up plarning and napping , even sexier.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I dislike Ann strongly and think she's FAKE. She sucks up to celebs more then Britney sucks down Big Gulps. Take your 10 mill and go.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lauer sucks. I didn't love Ann in this role, but she got SCREWED. I do love Savannah Guthrie. I hope she can keep Matt's gross hands away from her and come away unscathed when ratings fall further. Does anyone like Matt Lauer anymore???

    ReplyDelete
  51. i like Ann, always did....she was dry though. She seemed to work her way up only to be fired....the pay to walk away is worth it though.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wonder when Matt will be let go because of low ratings since Ann will not be there to be his scapegoat.

    ReplyDelete
  53. GMA was always better anyway ........

    ReplyDelete
  54. BTW, nice acting Lauer....lol...
The face in that still is priceless!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Has anyone liked Matt since Tom Cruise went on his crazy tour?!? I haven't liked this show since Deborah Norville was the last scapegoat for the Today Show...and I was a kid then...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Today has gone downhill since Gumbel-Couric. And I am not a Bryant Gumbel fan.

Matt was an okay pretty-boy-reading-the-news. Over-promoted, carried by Katie, became a douche while barely being able to accomplish a worthwhile interview.

Today needs to clean house in front and behind the cameras, shorten it to two hours, and have someone who can actually understand news when they read it or speak to someone. And let us all think "Where in the world is Matt Lauer? Who gives a f*ck?"

    ReplyDelete
  57. Fast? Are you kidding? This took over a year! NBC wasn't happy with Curry right after Viera left last June. They stretched this out as long as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Just read that Savannah will take Ann's chair tomorrow because Matt is on vacation next week and they want him beside her when it happens.

Also read that if the rumor of Natalie being ready to move on because of being passed over Willie Giest is in the wings. I love Willie.

I wish they would bring Lester Holt on during the week--he does a fantastic job on weekends.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I blame Matt Lauer. He is an arrogant and condescending. I love Ann. She is too sweet to be on the Today show with that a-hole.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am going to quit watching today over this. They humiliated Ann and then Matt sits there looking all sad, what a hosebag. The only genuine emotion was between Ann and Al. I think I could almost see Ann's skin crawl when Natalie reached over to comfort her.

    ReplyDelete
  61. LOL car54. Willie Giest is a total snoozefest. Lauer needs to be replaced by Lester Holt. Lester is all business and no pretentiousness. Natalie should be the air apparent to Ann. She's got good interview skills. Savannah is okay but she is clinical in her interviews. Me...I'm over the Today Show. I'll be checking out GMA starting tomorrow.
