Your Turn

You can see any band or singer you want whether dead or alive. You can only see one though. Who is it going to be?

  1. Bruce Springsteen

    I'm a Bruce Tramp!!!!

  2. I assume we can go back in time? I'd choose Maria Callas performing Madame Butterfly at her peak. I would love to hear her live.

    ReplyDelete
  3. i'm not going to limit myself to just one, that's silly......
    Elvis, MJ, Frank Sinatra.

    ReplyDelete
  4. My answer would probably change at any given moment on any given day, but right now I would choose to see Robert Johnson, the blues singer and alleged Faustian deal maker.

    ReplyDelete
  5. The Beatles. Second choice, Nirvana.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Beatles in the early days. Strip bar in Hamburg.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Alice in Chains

    ReplyDelete
  8. i think a Johnny Cash show would be pretty good. Or Buddy Holly. or Whats his name...... Roy Orbison.
Shit I could sing and sway along to, and that I know all the words.

    I'd see Frank Sinatra too.

I think I've seen everyone else that I'd want to. Alive or died in the passed 15 years.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I could make a list of the singers that I would like to see dead, but it seems untoward to start my week like that.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Either Shannon Hoon or Michael Hutchence

    ReplyDelete
  11. Beatles at the Cavern Club - 1961.

Or; Kate Bush, in my living room.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bessie Smith - Empress of the Blues. People don't seem to know much about her today - she was a big influence on, among others, Janis Joplin

If more than one, Billie Holiday and the Beatles.

oooh - forgot about Robert Johnson - I'd love to see him too.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What's wrong with you people? You are just supposed to pick one!

    :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. Can I take a double headlining tour of Eva Cassidy and Freedy Johnston? They didn't get to work together before she passed. But if I ever was lucky enough to see a Vegas show I'd have to take Garth all the way.

    ReplyDelete
  15. John Lee Hooker. I listen to his early stuff all the time. Frank Sinatra w/b good too, but the gun-to-my-head-you-can-only-pick-one w/b John Lee, definitely.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Boss Hog. I miss 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No question on a solo, Freddie Mercury.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Janis Joplin and the Big Brother Holding Company at the Fillmore.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Carolyn, I hear you. But since I've been making decisions for myself in life I do not see the point in limiting my options :)
Hopefully Enty will not ban me for this..... :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dead? Patsy Cline. Or MAYBE Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash. Or all of the Beatles. Damn! Hard to narrow it down.

Living? I have five on my bucket list: Springsteen, Sir Paul, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and George Strait. Anyone else whom I love, I've been blessed enough to have seen already.

So, yeah. Can't narrow any of it down to just one.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I miss Layne Staley SO MUCH!
    No voice like his. ♥ ♥ ♥

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous10:19 AM

Ian Tyson, before he damaged his vocal cords and his voice changed from mellow sexy to raspy old man.

    Elvis, of course.

    Queen.

    Levon Helm.

Damn, they're all dead but Ian, and he's almost 80.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hard question...It's impossible to pick only one. lol

    Nirvana

    Hendrix

Protest the Hero (all ready have seen them, but I'd still pick them. LOVE THEM!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  24. John Denver - still smarting from the loss

    ReplyDelete
  26. Honestly, I saw him already, twice...

    Prince.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Bob Dylan, early 70s. You can't count on the Bob of today.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Journey - ONLY WITH STEVE PERRY!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Agree, farmgirl. I just love him, and always think about his tragic death as I listen to him singing about how beautiful life is.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Me, too! I thought I'd be the only one who said John Denver. Anyway, he's been gone 15 years this October. So sad.

      Delete
  30. Karen Carpenter. So sad when I found out she had passed away...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Aunt Jess: I want to go to your concert with Eva (because Carolyn is making us choose one ;P) and you can come to my Ella Fitzgerald concert. Then we can head out to SusanB's Bessie Smith performance and finish off with singing to Patsy Cline over at AKM's.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Concha, the Sex Pistols at the 100 club in 76

    ReplyDelete
  33. "You can only choose one though."
    Helllloooo people! LOL

I'll go with George Michael in his hay day.

    1. I saw the faith tour in 88 and I must tell you....I was in general admission. Right at the.front of the.stage. Super cute 16 year old I was...george sang father figure ickily close to my face.

      Delete
    2. Did I mention it was icky?

      Delete
    3. So you didn't enjoy the concert? ;) I love the song "Faith."

      Delete
    4. No....I had no idea and George was phenomenal.
As a 40 year old man today George was icky and taking real liberties with my face. Lol

      Delete
  34. The Doors with Jim wearing tight leather pants.......but keeping everything in. 1. Break on through. 2. Light My Fire. Then the audience can shout out their requests.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The Beatles

    Michael Jackson

Everybody else I'd like to see, I've seen. Except Radiohead but I'm sure that'll happen some day.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Queen as they were in 1980 or so.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Led Zepplin in all their original glory!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Sherry I'm down! After that we gotta make a quick stop for Syko to get in on the Levon Helm action. (I am boycotting Robbie Robertson tho)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ziggy Stardust and his godamn spiders from mars

    ReplyDelete
  40. Jim Morrison & The Doors

    2. No matter how goodlooking I was (and I was shockingly handsome)
the choreography of Monkey should not have been performed an inch from my nose

      Delete
  45. The Minutemen. I've already seen pretty much everyone I ever wanted to (including Boss Hog!)

But if I could pick two, I'd say Elvis.

    ReplyDelete
  46. New Order in the late 1980's? That or Talking Heads in 1979 the last time they toured as a 4 piece band. I saw the Cure in 1989 on the Disintegration Tour. But the 1984 tour that produced The Cure at Orange video would have been a great one to see. Rolling Stones 1969 tour of the US. You want to catch a band at their absolute peak. After that it becomes a nostalgia act.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @ Sherry, what a creative solution! I'm impressed!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Beastie Boys. I'm so bummed that I'm never going to see them perform live now. I had tickets to their 2000 tour with Rage Against the Machine that got cancelled when Mike D broke his arm. :-(

    1. I was blessed to see the boys twice....once where Rollins Band opened...and the other time at an infamous and brilliant Opera House show in Toronto.

    2. Brother yauch

      Delete
  49. Jim Morrison and The Doors

    ReplyDelete
  50. Roy Orbison, he still occupies a lot of my playlist.

I think the rule should be one from the deceased list and one still alive.

Soooo, my second choice is Joe Cocker.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Andrew...cool choice. :) I just sang a choral work of his that was supposedly his last public performance.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Judy Garland - now that is not my kind of music, I'm a metalhead, BUT she had such an incredible voice that I think very few have been able to match.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jimi Hendrix or Beatles. Why squander my choice on someone from today?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm not trying to be all one upmanship guy ....so forgive me of it seems that way. I'm just bored and I've been to a lot of shows.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cat Stevens, Earth Tour in 1971 I think. I'd sell my soul.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Queen.. Without a doubt... Freddie Mercury was truly magnificent, and I would have loved to see him live in all his over the top glory.. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ramones, never did get to catch them when I had the chance. Totally regret it now.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hendrix, the Beatles, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly. Certainly wouldn't pick someone I can go see live just by buying a ticket.

and on that note, I'd like to see Mozart play.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would have such a hard time choosing between Nirvana and Sublime. This is way harder than I thought.............. I'm going with Sublime.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I've already seen my biggie faves multiple times: Springsteen and the E Street Band, U2 and Bon Jovi. I think I would go with the Rat Pack. But I would love to see George Michael, too. And Pearl Jam. And Jason Mraz. This is a tough question. I feel so disloyal no matter who I say. I love too much music to answer this properly.

    ReplyDelete
  61. so hard to pick one...but I will go with Freddie Mercury. That, was real showmanship.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous11:28 AM

@Aunt Jess - I am boycotting Robbie too, which is why I said Levon instead of The Band. I wouldn't mind Rick and Richard, though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous11:31 AM

Another vote for Layne Staley/Alice in Chains.... Saw AIC with William DuVall, and while it was really good, I would LOVE to see Layne.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Queen. I've seen pretty much everyone I've wanted to see during my lifetime, but Freddie was a showman like no other

    ReplyDelete
  65. @Carolyn..Join us and we'll make it s girls night out. I would also like to see me some Ramones while we're making a party of it!
And yes Blondie..we know, we can choose only one so this was my best solution to be greedy and see as many as possible. You know you want to too! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Led Zeppelin, back in the day... or Aerosmith... or Pink Floyd.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'd want to hear Son House. I'm an old blues fan. I've heard only recordings, most of which are not very good.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Bruce Springsteen, Asbury Park, back in the day, with Clarence. A seat at the bar with a good view, and maybe a photo op afterwards....

    ReplyDelete
  69. Dead, Queen

    Alive, Elton

I have a flare for the dramatic :-P

    ReplyDelete
  70. Michael Hutchence

    ReplyDelete
  71. @Norte & EmEyeKay: I was just looking at the cover of Ziggy Stardust and realized the sign over Bowie's head says "K. West." :-(
It's impossible to pick just one. Probably the 1969 Rolling Stones, as well. But then again...

  73. The 1965 version of The Byrds with Gene Clark.

    ReplyDelete
  74. The Velvet Underground, 1968.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Besides the Beatles, or Jimi or Janis in concert, think I've seen prob seen e'eryone I've needed to see live (Abba to Floyd to Zeppelin). I would rather have a one-on-one with Mr. John Lennon with 2 acoustic guitars available...

    ReplyDelete
  76. @Norte
Jeeze, you had me at thrusting!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Queen with Freddie.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Stevie Ray Vaughan, though I also really like someone else's choice of Edith Piaf, in Paris.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I saw a couple of my favorites. Dylan twice, Leonard Cohen. I still have to see U2 and Bruce, Blondie and Tom Waits. Warren Zevon died so I want get that chance. Sads.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Led Zeppelin circa the song remains the same.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Led Zeppelin circa the song remains the same.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I would see Pavarotti sing with Joan Sutherland.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Nirvana and the smashing pumpkins....

    ReplyDelete
  84. Okay. I listen to Mahler so so so often now...

I choose Harry Nilsson. Always Harry... the same as I choose life no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Jimi Hendrix or Jim Morrison & The Doors

I sat in the 2nd row at The Forum for Freddie Mercury and Queen. It was one of the best shows ever!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Springsteen in the 70s. I'll be seeing him this summer in Boston (5th time).

If I could have a time machine, I'd just go back for concerts, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The Beatles. If I were going with only living, I'd want to see Yo Yo Ma again. He's a magician.

    ReplyDelete

  89. I got to see Queen with Freddie, so that just leaves the Beatles in Hamburg, specifically Mr. Lennon.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Too many to list. But some of the obvious ones:

Elvis, The Beatles, The Doors, Janice Joplin, Buddy Holly, Zeppelin, Yardbirds, Hendrix, etc.

But choosing just ONE?.... The Beatles

    ReplyDelete
  91. Queen of course... Circa 1976. Also would want to meet Brian May before he met his then wife!! Mwahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm pretty lucky; saw pretty much everone I wanted to see in the 60's and 70's. Beatles, rolling stones, joplin, ike and tina, chambers brothers , van morrison many times, richie havens, hall and oates, eagles, etall. 93. Without question... LAYNE STALEY. So happy to see a few other readers agree with me. That voice was a gift from god! Ya, Alice is still together and still tours, however, the new Alice doesnt hold a candle to the AiC of the early 90s. RIP Layne.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I'm tossed between Oingo Boingo and the Ramones. My thirteen year old son loves them too, he runs around singing 'Beat on the Brat' and 'Dead Man's Party'.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Jimi without a doubt. BTW....why the boycott on Robbie Robertson? I musta missed something.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bob Marley and the I Threes. Easy Skanking is my Good Mood song

    ReplyDelete
  97. I saw Queen 3 times, Amazing. I am torn between the Ramones and Elvis Costello. Never saw the Ramones live, I've seen Elvis 3x and I Adore him ;)

I guess I'd pick Ramones since I could still see Spike again.

    ReplyDelete
  98. My hubby and friend saw police when they first came along. They sang like 10 songs, the sang same 10 again!!! Lol. Didnt even hv a long enough playlist, lol

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous2:24 PM

@Kelwolfen - pick up a copy of Levon Helm's book, This Wheel's On Fire. I can barely watch The Last Waltz any more, knowing what an asshole Robbie was.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yes, what's going on with Robbie Robertson boycott? I love him, but he wouldn't be my pick, love Zep huge fan when I was a teenager and Janice..Jefferson Starship, I saw u2 last summer, but my heart belongs to the Boss, I adore Springsteen..

    ReplyDelete
  101. Living-Sting
Dead-- either -- Freddie Mercury or Stevie Ray Vaughn

    ReplyDelete
  102. Kate Bush on her one and only tour. God, she was incredible on that tour (at least on the tapes -- I wasn't into her music until well after 1979).

Second choice? Aha. I wish I had seen them on their farewell tour.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Super simple, Jeff Buckley.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'd go back to see any grateful dead show, even the crappy ones.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yes front row of Jeff Buckley *swoon*

    ReplyDelete
  106. Depeche Mode circa Devotional Tour 1993. I'd get the hell backstage to Dave Gahan & let him show me the world in his eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks Syko, I'll check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  108. T-Rex, RIP Marc Bolan! or The Who live in the 60s... such a tough question!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper in Clear Lake Iowa. I'd also take a limo and drive them to their next gig so they didn't get on that damned plane!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yes - Ziggy Stardust, Led Zeppelin, Queen... Joy Division, Pink Floyd (just saw the 60 Minutes clip of Roger Waters' The Wall and I am dying to see that)... I just can't limit it to one.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Without a doubt, Layne Staley. RIP.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Kate Bush! God I love her, but I would love to see Steve Perry back with the original Journey. The one without Randy Jackson.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Definitely the Beatles...
2nd choice a just slightly high Amy Winehouse!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Beatles or Nirvana

    ReplyDelete
  115. Sting

just throwing this out there because I have to be all sweet and wonderful around my family, but I got laid off work today. They were nice enough to tell me that I can stay until August. Life sucks. No education, no talent, mediocore human being in general. Where the fuck is the beer.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Anonymous6:46 PM

Sorry to hear that, BigMama. It's a scary world. Hopefully this turns out good for you and you find something else that's better and pays more.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Thank you Syko - *sniff* gonna have a hard time with this, even though I knew it was coming.

    ReplyDelete
  118. BigMama - You are NOT mediocre!! Hang in there. It will get better.

    ReplyDelete
  119. BigMama I was laid off two jobs in a row so I can relate. You have mad skills and you will articulate them as you update your resume. Wishing you all the best. Some of my best jobs have been "rebounds ". Believe it and it will be so. I'm putting it out in the universe for you. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Jim Morrison circa 1967. Let me sleep all night in your Soul Kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Supertramp.

    Yep. I'm old.

    ReplyDelete
  122. New Kids On The Block. Not even embarrassed

    ReplyDelete
  123. I guess i am fortunate as I have seen many already listed, the Beasties a bunch of times, INXS, Elvis Costello at least 10 times, Oingo Boingo for nearly every Halloween show, Ramones, I was also at Queen at the forum 1980? when the Blasters opened for them. Funny enough i am going to see Prince tonight here in Sydney.

My list of wishes are down to three, Robert Johnson in a delta roadhouse, one of the italian castrato soprano singers, or Mozart (preferably the teenage years).

    ReplyDelete
  124. R.A.M.O.N.E.S, R.A.M.O.N.E.S, RAMONES!

    ReplyDelete
