The Wanted Take A Shot At Britney Spears
Last week The Wanted called Christina Aguilera a b**ch. This week they spoke about Britney Spears. During Britney's last tour, The Wanted opened for Britney on a number of dates. One of the first dates they opened, one of the band members was sitting in a hallway with the manager of the group. At that point, no one knew the people in the hallway were "talent," so were told that Britney would be coming down the hall and that when she did they were not to look at her, attempt to talk to her and should keep their heads down or face the wall. They did so until she got far away. Later, the band says that once Britney figured out they were opening for her they were allowed to talk to her and that she was very nice. I have never understood the whole not being allowed to look at someone. Are they better than other people? I will look at who I want, when I want.
I don't know, I think if I were famous I'd get sick of people gawking at me. Having someone walk ahead of you specifically to tell people to look at a wall, though...that's going too far.
ReplyDeleteDidn't I read this exact same thing about Madonna a while back? She denied it though & said it was ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThese idiots are burning bridges quickly.....stupid.
ReplyDeleteFor backstage before a show, I'll give her a pass. She's mentally (maybe) preparing for a show, I'm sure being gawked at and fawned over would be distracting. Personally I deal with it very well but not everyone does.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, these boys need to STFU. Boy bands have a very limited shelf life and running their mouths off is not helping. If you're an up and coming band and you get to open for someone as big as Britney, appreciate the opportunity. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. It's only cute when kittens do it.
But I guess B was fine with the thousands of people in the audience staring at her.
ReplyDeleteThey need to keep their lips zipped!
ReplyDeleteThese boys are very ugly both inside and out. See ya in an ep of Where Are They Now in a year's time assholes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with @anita_mark. Preshow, the artist might just be trying to focus on the show (especially for someone with limited abilities MEOW), so if you walk down a hall and you have people gawking and wanting autographs or such, it might be a distraction. If she knows the people there are performers, then she might feel secure that they aren't going to be demanding fans or hangers-on.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I know many celebs who are secure in their own talents and can hold deep and meaningful (not to mention glib) conversations right up to stepping on stage and not have it faze them. Keith Urban comes to mind. He's a sweetheart to everyone. But not everybody can do that.
Having performed (limited and only on semi-professional basis!) myself at times, I wouldn't want a lot of distractions up to my performance. At karaoke, though, shoot, I can talk and make eye contact during the song LOL
The whole "not allowed to look at me" started with Madonna. Pretentious is an ugly disease.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much of it is actually the start and how much of it is their handlers? I'm sure some stars demand that, though.
ReplyDeleteThe *star* that is.
ReplyDeleteIve ready many times that Britney is one of the nicest people in the business. Oprah even said shes the nicest guest she has ever had on. I call BS, this guys really need to stop burning bridges.
ReplyDeleteBut that's hardly slagging her off though is it?
ReplyDelete"I wonder how much of it is actually the start and how much of it is their handlers? I'm sure some stars demand that, though."
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that the request was made by her dad.
The handlers oftentimes create a lot of stupid rules and regulations on behalf of the artist that they perceive to give the allusion of power, grandeur and A list success. The artist isn't always in on it nor necessarily approving of it. Other times handlers take it upon themselves to instill these rules just from hearing the grumblings of the artist and the artist is totally fine with the end result. You can't know for sure unless you're in the situation and are in the know.
ReplyDeleteConsidering where her career was just a few years ago, Britney should be thankful anyone wants to look at her.
ReplyDeleteAlot has to do with "power trips" and trying to see what you can make folks do because of who u r, kinda of like the whole bowl of red m&ms only or an all white dressing room.
ReplyDelete@Montana i agree with u some people do it as a power trip! But these guys irk my nerves and i still have no idea who they r! They sound like puzzy's spreading all this gossip!
ReplyDeleteI dunno anything but I'm under the impression someone else is deciding for Ms. Spears. So, this wasn't necessarily on her wish list.
ReplyDelete@Princess, Madonna didn't start this. I believe Diana Ross was big on this. Sorry, I meant, Miss Ross was big on this.
ReplyDeleteThey're not really ragging on Britney but they are not portraying her in a flattering way.
I recall two reveals from this site. One was Sylvester Stallone insisting no one make eye contact with him on set and another was Halle Barry being furious when she found out the crew was told not to look at her (and I think she bought the crew dinner to make up for it).
Stallone was big on the "don't look me in the eyes" thing too. IMO it's about superiority...to prove that everyone around them is inferior. It's pathetic. You're a skanky b*tch who, by all rights, should be living in a trailer deep frying Oreos.
ReplyDeleteI like how they are telling the truth on these stuck up girls.
ReplyDeleteThat is just ridiculous.
Most people would have to kneel to make eye contact with Stallone FFS
ReplyDeleteWho the hell *are* these guys?
ReplyDeleteStallone is so short in real life that it would be hard for anyone over the age of 12 to "look him in the eye."
ReplyDeleteWho knows she may be getting prepared and focusing or may have a fear of getting mobbed by people and it's a way for security to control a small area. I dunno, if she's as sweet as she seems, I'm gonna give her a pass.
ReplyDeleteBritney is a bitch! I don't care if Oprah thinks she's nice, she's a bitch!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Enty!
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard this story, one of the band members was in the hall with a laptop, Brits handlers were concerned that he was filming or something and asked him to turn away.
ReplyDeleteYep these dudes seem to like burning bridges behind them.
Someday they'll be known as "that band that trash-talked their way into oblivion".
ReplyDeleteThis is part of their pr image - they are trying to be the "bad boys" as opposed to One Direction's "nice boys."
ReplyDeleteThey seem like very chatty boys.
ReplyDeleteKarma's a bitch...what ever dirt they dish on bigger stars will someday probably come back to them....
ditto what Mooshki said. My first thought when the trash talk started was the management teams of both groups got together to plan stunts to spur interest in the two (lacklustre) groups. That initial pr stunt that One Direction was afraid of The Wanted when they were at the same studio? Hokey as hell, but for a Tween, I have no doubt they ate it up.
ReplyDeleteI'm not one to stick up for Madonna, but I have stood in close proximity to her as a stranger and she did not freak out that I was looking at her (well, back of her neck anyway) or go screaming for security. I'm a big guy, and in those days definitely looked a little weird. She tapped her heels a little nervously, as I recall, but didn't freak out.
ReplyDeleteWell I know that I have tried to establish a "don't talk too don't look at" standard where I work but the boss said it was rude and the co-workers complained that I was being anti-social. Bunch of A**hats. So now I just shoot rubber bands at them when they don't comply. Its a win win really

ReplyDeleteThey tell that people who start jobs at Dreamworks. 'Don't look Spielberg In The eye or engage him in conversation.' Fuck that. After all the money I spent on his movies during my lifetime If I see Spielberg I'm going to talk to him.
ReplyDeleteBritney isn't the brightest either. When she met Paul Schaeffer she called him "Dave's DJ."
Nic Kidman does that too. A lot of them do. My friend is an assistant to the hairdresser who does/did Nicole Kidman's hair. My friend had to go by Nicole's home one time with him. While she was there, a bell rang and the other assistants/servants told her to turn around and face the wall. She didn't understand why. Then at the other end of the hall, the bell rang again and they told her she could now turn around. The bell was to signal that Nicole was coming, and you couldn't look at her or face her. Once you heard the second bell, she was gone and you could now look. Ridiculous, entitled a-holes are who they are. They'd be nothing if it weren't for the people going to the movies and putting them on their stupid, useless pedistals.
ReplyDeleteSomebody spank these children and put them to bed. Not with each other either!
ReplyDeleteyes, cuz Oprah is known to dish the dirt!
ReplyDeletewhat do you think she's going to say?
"Britney came on my show, was batshit crazy, stoned on adderall and left a fucking mess in the dressing room. oh and her dog shit in the green room."
lol.
I think this "don't look at the star" thing is ridiculous. That being said we all know Britney has alot of mental issues. I'm willing to be paranoia is one of them. So this could be a result of that.
ReplyDeleteI had to smirk a little when I heard Britney's rep wondering why these lads are hellbent on villifying divas and saying: “Look out Lady Gaga – there are still three days left this week.”
ReplyDeleteSo weird.
ReplyDeleteI liked on 30 Rock when Jenna's contract had an eye contact clause. Everyone HAS to make eye contact with her.
Ok, it's one thing to not want to be bothered minutes before going on stage, that I'm ok with, but in their home??? That's beyond ridiculous. But then again, they choose to work there.
ReplyDeleteThe Wanted will soon be the Not Wanted if they keep taking potshots at established entertainers.
ReplyDeleteIt's a long way from begging to be noticed isn't it.
ReplyDeleteHaving worked in the music industry I was constantly amazed by the antics of these people.
Some of the biggest stars who you expected to be dicks or divas were friendly and approachable. Some just wanted to hang out quietly, some demanded dates with models or tickets and stuff for their entourages.
Once they figure out who is paying for everything it's funny to watch them switch from limos for everyone to the humble minivan.
Britney gets a pass from me. If she suffers from any kind of emotional illness (and that's pretty evident) it might be due to that.
ReplyDeleteIf it's even true. Just because these little snots said it doesn't make it so.
LOL, BigMama!
ReplyDeleteI think The Wanted's comments are entertaining and funny. I have no problem with people calling out entitled snotty celebrities. Yup, they are going to hurt themselves by talking so much trash before they are really established, but that's their decision.
ReplyDeleteI seem to recall even the super-egotistical J.Lo said it was a very bad idea to talk shit about A-listers before you are one yourself. Apparently she had made fun of Madonna in an interview, and when they bumped into each other at a restaurant Madge started yelling, "Dinner's over! We're leaving!" and she and her friends and employees all stalked out in a huff while J.Lo stood there humiliated. Soon The Wanted are gonna get the same treatment! But maybe they don't care.
It's so rare that you hear celebs dish about other celebs. It's refreshing. Yes, they're probably kicking themselves in the balls, but in the meantime, we get delicious gossip.
ReplyDelete@Krissie...
ReplyDeleteI believe Jennifer Lopez talked shit about Madonna, Winona Ryder, Selma Hayak... and a few others in an Interview with Interview magazine. She got a lot of flack for it and then tried to pull the, "I was misquoted/The Writer lied and made it up." I believe the writer, with the magazine standing behind him, called Jennifer Lopez a liar and said he had the audio of the interview and would be happy to release it if she kept denying it. She never brought it back up again.
In addition to Diva behavior there are also lists of performers who are and arent difficult to work with. They learn their lines, take direction, don't argue that their character wouldn't do or say something. They show up on time, get along with the staff and the other performers.
ReplyDeleteThis explains why some stars keep getting work even though theyre maybe not the draw they once were or have some unflattering attention (sex, drugs, marital issues) and other really great actors have a bit more trouble.
I was gonna say who the f*ck are "The Wanted" .. when you cleared it up for me . "The Wanted opened for Britney on a number of dates." and now I can say, "Oh! They are this years Sister Hazel."
ReplyDeleteWevs ..
Sometimes all the don't-look demands are the celebs, but I'm guessing that a lot of the time it's the handlers & hangers-on--the bigger a deal the celeb is, the bigger and more important they get to feel as well. In all my years hanging around clubs & dressing rooms in the '80s & '90s, almost all of the musicians were friendly or at the very least polite; some of them are some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I got a lot more grief from hangers-on & such than I EVER did the actual "talent," believe me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can't be the only one who thinks ragging on a woman who's poorly educated, not terribly bright to boot, and suffering from significant mental illness isn't entirely kosher, am I? I'm remembering Katy Perry's tweet about the Kayne/Taylor Swift episode, which she compared to stepping on a kitten--I wouldn't go quite so far here, but if you absolutely have to rag on someone, pick on someone who can actually fight back, hmmm?
Actually not "looking at a celeb" was started by Diana Ross. She had it in many of her contracts not to look directly at her and to call her "Ms. Ross." She was the original for that type of behavior.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I have to call bull. I worked on a spinoff of a major Spielberg property, and knew a bunch of people who had meetings with him. There was no guff about "don't look him in the eye." Just that he could get aggressive if you weren't delivering on your end of things as promised. Hardly surprising behavior for a director of his stature.
ReplyDeleteIF this is true, I have never heard one incident of Britney being a diva. All we talk about is how mentally ill and fragile she is. So much that her husband now legally makes all decisions for her. I immediately thought no looking or speaking to her is so not to distract her because she's probably very easy to confuse. And god I love her so I'd hate for someone to screw with her head before a performance! I would KILL for whoever has been controlling her career from day one to take over my life! She's always #1, her tours sell out nonstop, her fragrance line is the highest selling celeb fragrance and even ranks with the non celeb fragrances. Lucky lucky woman!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like complete and total bullshit. I've never heard anything like this about Britney Spears and she's been around since 1997. Fuck these little pricks.
ReplyDelete
