Todd Bridges Files For Divorce

Former Different Strokes star, and just about the only one of them alive, is filing for divorce from his wife of 14 years. Todd said the two have simply grown far apart. Either that or Gary Coleman's ex thinks she has a live one and has been calling. Todd and his wife have a 13 year old son who has been in some minor roles on television. I have always felt that show was cursed and I also thought Todd Bridges would be the first to die from it and am amazed how he has straightened his life out and managed to live longer than the other two young stars from the show. Back in the day Todd was the male equivalent of Lindsay Lohan. It seemed like every day brought a new issue or arrest or rehab stay.

  1. Well, I'm rooting for him. Sorry to hear about his divorce.

  2. Nice to know that rehab works for some people. Good for him for having come so far.

  3. Hopefully for their kid's sake this truly is a case of just growing apart, and they can keep it as amicable as possible. Not that it's easy for anyone any time, but going through such a big shake-up during puberty is TOUGH.

  4. Right! I remember, that guy was a mess. That was sort of pre-internet, or pre-every-bad-thing-you-do-is-online-five-seconds-after.

Sorry to hear about the divorce, but glad to know he's doing well (relatively speaking).

  5. The guy has changed, for sure. I am embarrassed to admit I watched a lot of The Coreys when it was on about 4-5 years ago. He appeared on the intervention episode, and pretty obvious that he'd straightened out.

  6. Oh, Willis. He is a great example though, of how if people want to get clean, they can.

  7. Just been reading up on some background about the Diff'rent Strokss stars after they left the series. That has to be three of the most messed-up child stars in history. What the hell happened behind the scenes on that show?

To put it in perspective, we're celebrating the fact that one out of three made it out alive and not insane, Damn.

  8. I think Gary Coleman did relatively ok, right?

I remember hearing Bridges admit on doctor drew that he had experienced sexual abuse as a child. Didn't say from who or when, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was a predator on set.

  9. @ Monica re: Gary Coleman. Definitely not. That guy had a horrible life, starting when he sued his parents for control of his own finances. It pretty much went downhill from there, complicated by all of his illnesses and the fact that he was a middle-aged man trapped in a kid's body, constantly harangued by people of my generation reminding him that he would always be Arnold Drummond. Really sad story, I think he just wanted to be left alone with his train sets.

  12. I wonder what happend to Sam. Yeah Gary Coleman had well deserved anger issues. I saw him on a reality show I can't remember what one but he was sick of people recognizing him as Arnold. I bet it's bc it was a horrible time in his life that he hated to be constantly reminded of. I can't think of another kid actor show, but all I can think of is what's his name George Kostanza on twitter now. He loves the recognition even though it was so long ago and he's done things since then. That shows that it was a happy time that he's happy to remember.

  13. @katsm0711 I remember Sam being one of the pallbearers at Dana Plato's funeral. He's married with two kids, supports himself with a fairly steady stream of voice/voiceover work (cartoons, video games, etc.) and seems to have turned out pretty normal: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0177528/

  14. Sam was the red headed kid who was friends with John Conmor on Terminator 2 Judgement Day

Some people can, the lucky ones. It's honestly more than just wanting it enough. Addiction is an amazingly tricky beast.

I sincerely hope he's on solid enough footing that he can get through this okay, and everyone else in the family, too. So stressful.
