Michael McKean Hit By A Car
Why is it that whenever I hear any news about Michael McKean I immediately want to watch every Christopher Guest movie while Spinal Tap music plays in the background. The guy is a legend. I think the only misstep he ever took was that season of SNL. But you know what? It kept him in the spotlight and when he has hosted it has been great. If you think about how far this guy has come since the days of Laverne & Shirley to now, it's amazing. Yesterday he was struck by a car in New York while walking and broke his leg. He was still hospitalized early this morning. If you have never seen Best Of Show that could be his best performance in a Christopher Guest movie. It is a tough call though.
So glad he only broke his leg. Get well soon!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this guy , I had to ask him to verify some off beat financial charges. He was so sweet and funny on the phone. Also enjoyed his brief appearances in a couple of Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I'm so glad he's got nothing worse than a broken leg! I *love* him in Best in Show. Seriously... one of the greatest movies EVER and he is just terrific in it. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteI see him with his wife all the time...take it easy and heal...
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad it wasn't worse for him and hope he recovers soon. I, too, love him. Best in Show is awesome though my favorite Christopher Guest movie is Waiting for Guffman. A Mighty Wind is creeping up on my list, too.
ReplyDeleteIts all over the news in NYC and I hate how they keep referring to him as Lenny from L&S when he is a tremendous talent that has surpassed that character into much greater rolls. I wish him a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteHope he recovers soon. Poor guy. And I also hope the driver who jumped the freaking curb is held accountable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that his best performance is Best In Show, but my favorite Christopher Guest movie will always be Spinal Tap. Holy crap I always just want to bang the shit out of Nigel, up until his lip herpe pops up :(
Best *in* Show. Seriously, proofread.
ReplyDeleteHis year on SNL was probably their worst year, save for the Doumanian 1980 season. Not his fault, it was one of those valley years SNL goes through when they need to regroup.
Dang, hope he's okay! Heal soon!
ReplyDeleteI love the Christopher Guest movies. If I had to choose a favorite, I'd say Waiting for Guffman. No, Best In Show. No, Spinal Tap. No, ...
@Agent - aren't you gonna tell us what they were?!? I WANT TO KNOW WHAT OFFBEAT PURCHASES MICHAEL MCKEAN MADE!
ReplyDeleteME TOO. Out with it, Agent**it!!
DeleteThis man is legendary and GROSSLY underrated as an actor and musician, in my opinion. I hope all goes well for him.
ReplyDeleteI don't know - for me it's either Best in Show or A Mighty Wind. And while he has certainly done many great roles since Laverne and Shirley, there's no shame in that game - I loved that show as a kid! Man, good times.
ReplyDeleteHope he is back and better than ever soon.
Please keep a good thought for him; he was listed in critical condition until this morning. TV news had pics of the car; there's tremendous front-end damage, a hole in the windshield and the driver airbag deployed. He bled heavily and the medics worked on him for a long time before they took him away. At the very least he'll be off-stage for a stretch. IMO the TV reporters keep talking about Lenny because so many of us loved that character.
ReplyDeleteSpeedy recovery to Mr Mckean.
ReplyDeleteBest in Show is one of my all time favs, but he has done so much great work it's really hard to state a fav.
I love this man! Really hoping he'll pull through.
ReplyDeleteI just looked it up, he's 64. Eeek. I hope he recovers 100%.
ReplyDeleteI like to think of him as Lenny, because that was one of his only characters that didn't scare the daylights out of me...lol only news I could find last night was on the NY Daily News and they didn't know where all his injuries were. Sounds like they found him. Thank goodness!
ReplyDelete^ them not him^ darn auto correct!
DeleteWarning: the first photo is unsettling, but the article is worth reading.

Am I a heathen for liking him best as Mr. Green in "Clue"?
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope he has a speedy recovery. I love him!
ReplyDeleteEvil Kumquat: No. "I'm going to go and sleep with my *wife*!" Good times. :)
ReplyDelete.. there were multi charges at a raunchy NY Club along with a HUGE tip.. they were fraudulent.. but you don't know that up front and so when you have contact (and it has to be direct on fraud or a request for financial documentation) you have to tread carefully because sometimes they turn out to be 'true' charges (ie: NBA players are notoriously stupid with their credit cards and are ususally valid...)
ReplyDeleteSpeedy recovery, Mr. McKean. Lots of us are waiting for that Spinal Tap sequel, you know.
ReplyDelete@Evil Kumquat
ReplyDeleteI was just going to post that. Clue is probably my favourite movie as a child.
Mr. Green: [gets up in front of everyone] I have something to say. I'm not going to wait for Wadsworth here to unmask me. I work for the State Department, and I'm a homosexual.
[pause]
Mr. Green: I feel no personal shame or guilt about this, but I must keep it a secret, or I will lose my job on security grounds.
[pause]
Mr. Green: Thank you.
I caught a flick of his the other day while on the treadmill, it was on Plex and it was hysterical. It wasn't the Best in Show, which is very funny, but another film about making a film. IT also had Parker Posey in it.
ReplyDeleteI do hope he's ok. I almost got hit yesterday jogging. Cars = WMD
That would be "for your consideration" - that and "best in show" are my favorites... :)
DeleteThank you, @Agent**it! (Tho I sort of wish they weren't fraudulent. That would have made a good story.)
ReplyDelete@ Obama - it might have been Waiting for Guffman. One of my all time favorites. Get better soon Michael!
ReplyDeleteWhoa @EmEyeKay with that first photo on NY Daily News! It always shocks me when media outlets publish those kinds of photos. And that car must've been going FAST if he did all that damage to his windshield. Wow. Hope he's okay.
ReplyDeleteHe has been performing on Broadway in Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man”.
ReplyDeleteMs Cool, that does it. We must meet up IRL. We both live in Wisconsin. Both huge Packer fans. Both love Waiting for Guffman. Seriously, I think drinks are in order!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteGet well soon, Mr McKean. You are brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
I think he's a comedic genius and loved him in Spinal Tap and Best in Show. Hope he makes a speedy recovery!! Get well Michael.
ReplyDeleteAlso had zero idea he was married to Annette O'Toole.
ReplyDeleteI love him! "This is Spinal Tap" is one of my favorite movies, along with anything he's done with Christopher Guest. I hope he recovers quickly. He was great on "Laverne & Shirley", too. There's nothing he could've done to avoid being hit since the car jumped the curb. Poor guy. And he's missing his Broadway show on top of everything else. :(
ReplyDeleteNow I want to rent Best in Show again! That was also my introduction to the wonderful Jane Lynch.
ReplyDeleteSending positive thoughts to Michael McKean!!
Yikes! Here's hoping he heals well and has as speedy and complete a recovery as possible! *sends good thoughts to MM & family*
ReplyDeleteI hope he pulls through. I love this man. Love him.
ReplyDeleteAHHHH! Best IN Show, Enty, Best IN Show -not Of - IN. The sacrilege! I am not a member of the grammar police (okay, maybe in my head), but to mis-title one of the greatest movies ever made?! BEST IN SHOW. Pure, glorious genius.
ReplyDeleteThat said, dear Michael McKean, we wish you a spendy recovery and minimal discomfort on the road to perfect health. And, THANK YOU FOR YOUR AWESOME performances! Gifts to us all! I think I'll watch Best In Show tonight ...
ReplyDeleteLove him and the whole Christopher Guest gang. I hope he makes a speedy, full recovery.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites. I've loved pretty much everything he's been in. AND he married Annette O'Toole as well, which is pretty awesome in my book. Hope he recovers well!
ReplyDeletei hope he recovers soon and glad it wasnt worse. I love love love best in show! I had no idea he was in laverne and shirley but that was before my time!
ReplyDeleteoh no! and he's fucking awesome in Clue
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else remember when Gene Hackman was hit on a bike? And Reese Witherspoon getting hit by a car too? I think there were others I can't recall right now...Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but, odd right?
ReplyDeleteClue is the best of all time... Hands down..
ReplyDeleteMonkey brains anyone?
I totally forgot about Clue! I grew up on Laverne & Shirley, and loved him as Lenny. He's only gotten better with age. I wish him a speedy recovery and many more years of steady paychecks.
ReplyDeleteI loved him in The X-Files and The Lone Gunmen, he's good in everything but I really enjoyed him in those tv shows.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea he played Lenny (couldn't stand that show) or that he was married to Annette O'Toole.
Such a talented guy. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Such a bummer b/c he was about to star in a Broadway Show.
