Mary Kennedy's Family Blame RFK Jr. For Suicide
Mary Kennedy's family are not being quiet about who they think is to blame for the death of Mary. They blame Robert F Kennedy Jr. and say that he was concerned way more for his celebrity relationship with Cheryl Hines then Mary's well being. They say the constant restraining orders he filed and constant picking on Mary in an attempt to make her life miserable was the reason she ultimately decided to kill herself.
Meanwhile, they hate how Robert is pretending to be all concerned about her depression in public when in private he was the one who they felt was causing the depression. The reason she was drowning in debt and going to lose her home was because of RFK Jr., they said and that he was so caught up in dating a television star that he didn't care about anything else.
And here comes the mudslinging
ReplyDeleteTheir grief is speaking for them it sounds like.
ReplyDeleteI actually believe everything Mary's family is saying. RFK, Jr. and Cheryl Hines have been an item for quite some time. They both care about the environment. But not about people, apparently, like his wife and children. I'd say shame on both of them, but politicians and actors have no shame.
ReplyDeleteWhile I know the Kennedy's are not nice people, this is bad.
ReplyDeleteThis poor woman obviously had more than her share of issues - depression, drinking, substance abuse. I don't believe that one person can cause another person to have these issues, but being married to a shithead would certainly exacerbate them. He obviously didn't care about her, their marriage, or their kids. And I'm sure his attitude is nothing new.
ReplyDeleteI hope she is at peace now and that her kids are getting the care they need and deserve.
Why is it bad, MISCH? Why shouldn't someone call RFK out on his treatment of his wife? It seems that so many women who become involved with a Kennedy man end up in a bad place. Watch out, Cheryl; you know what they say about karma.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they're not lying about the cause of the depression, but there are never any winners in the blame game. it's classier to take these matters up in private. Anyone with half a brain will see the facts in the news story and understand where the pain came from.
ReplyDeleteMy brother and his girlfriend had mean, nasty fights all during their relationship. They were both a-holes to each other. She knew how to press his buttons like no other and their feuds were vicious.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when my brother took his life in front of his girlfriend I could not bring myself to blame her. No one can make another take their life. Suicide stems from mental illness and lack of self control.
Depression and mental illness are responsible for Mary Kennedy's death. Hopefully her family will be able to accept that and come together.
Suicide has ripped my family apart and we will never be whole again.
So sorry for your loss, and thanks for sharing, i was getting sucked into the blame game until I read your post. I suffer from depression, so I know what it's like. You are absolutely right.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss, and thanks for sharing, i was getting sucked into the blame game until I read your post. I suffer from depression, so I know what it's like. You are absolutely right.
DeleteI would say Mary's family is probably right. I know I've seen spouses (sometimes the husband, sometimes the wife) who are from prominent families make life a living hell for the spouses that they are divorcing. And these are just men and women who are big fish in small ponds. Kennedys are big fish in the ocean! I find it very easy to believe that he contributed greatly to her problems.
ReplyDeleteOh I don't care about anything they say about RFK, but the kids they're not babies they read, they have the internet and access to everything said about both their mom and dad....and that is bad it's vary bad.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to be Cheryl Hines right now. She seems like a really nice person. Maybe it isn't the smartest move to date a Kennedy, or someone in the process of a divorce, but it isn't like he left his wife for her. Now her name is being slung through the mud.
ReplyDeleteAnd poor Mary, RFK Jr married her just 1 month after his divorce was final and 3 months later she had his child. She grew up the best friend of his sister Kerry. She KNEW what she was getting into.
Once a cheater, always a cheater and if he cheats with you, he will cheat on you.
I am sorry she chose to end her own life, but the only ones I feel sorry for are the 4 children under the age of 18 that she selfishly left w/o a mother.
Suicide may seem like an easy answer, but you can choose to be a victim and you can choose to get better. Unfortunately, not everyone has the strength to drag themselves out of the depths of despair.
Being from MA I have heard & seen these Kennedy clowns behaving badly for years. They are a horrible bunch of people with no decency or morals. Every woman who has been under their clutches ends up ruined. (why don't I tell you how I really feel!) So sorry for your loss JJ. Suicide is so devastating for those left behind.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the kids feel the same way as Mary's family. I don't know. I'm sure it couldn't have been easy seeing their father on gossip sites with Cheryl Hines hanging all over him (and their parents weren't even divoriced).
ReplyDeleteTeam Mary's Family
ReplyDeleteJJ, I'm so sorry for the loss of your brother and the devastation it has brought on your family. My sister's husband did the same thing, although she was trying to get him to clean up his act by threatening to leave. He said if she left, he'd do it. She left, he did. The guilt she carries and the torment his mother feels to this day is terrible. As far as RFK and Mary, while she obviously had issues, perhaps he could have made the effort to get her help seeing as she was the mother of his children. She probably felt: "I'll show YOU." and she did. Tragic all around, particularly for the children.
ReplyDeleteHow do we know RFK DIDN'T leave his wife for Cheryl? I've been hearing rumors about them for at least 3 years. In fact, I thought they were living together. If Cheryl's name gets dragged through the mud, too bad. It was her choice to become involved with a married man with young children.
ReplyDeleteSnowstorms, very eloquently put:
ReplyDelete"Suicide may seem like an easy answer, but you can choose to be a victim and you can choose to get better. Unfortunately, not everyone has the strength to drag themselves out of the depths of despair."
Sadly very true.
Thanks Lynette.
DeleteWow. Not too often you hear of a female committing suicide via hanging. Usually it's pills.
ReplyDeleteUgh, no one is to blame for her suicide but her. Seems like he was a dick to her, no surprise coming from a Kennedy, but he didn't force her to drink, he didn't hold her down and keep her from getting help.
ReplyDeleteMary and Cheryl knew each other. They were pictured at a fundraiser in Dec 2010 together. This was after RFK Jr. filed for divorce. Mary was hoping for a reconciliation til she died.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what was behind all the restraining orders he filed. He didnt even live in MA anymore.
I read elsewhere that she was devastated by the suspicion that Robert was having his attorneys put together a case to take custody of their children away from her as part of the divorce proceedings.
ReplyDeleteI feel so badly for her and those children, and hope Robert's concern is genuine, although it's a bit late for that now.
It does sound suspicious that right after he filed for divorce there are suddenly 2 incidents with Mary involving drugs and/or drinking and the police being called. Were there other incidents that were covered up? Also, for someone with substance abuse issues, hanging does sound unusual, since it takes more effort. It seems like with the Kennedys none of the facts ever add up. Also, RFK jr and his first wife had drug problems. Does he pick women with these problems, or maybe contribute to their drug problems? In the end she made the choice, (probably not a CLEAR choice since she probably was drunk or on drugs at the time) but he did contribute to her misery,so no way would I give him a free pass.
ReplyDeleteJJ and others- sorry to hear about your losses.
he was her ESTRANGED husband. he needs to STFU! their relationship is over and he doesn't get to speak for her anymore. ass!
ReplyDeleteI think he is at blame for treating her so poorly, not necessarily for the suicide, but for being a class a asshole to the woman who was the mother of this children. Obviously, she was a troubled woman and he was rubbing salt into her wounds.
ReplyDeleteI feel sad for everyone touched by this tragedy. Suicide is never the answer but .... Depression lies to you in the worst ways. I am sure she did what she felt she had to. Breaks my heart that people can be in that much pain.
ReplyDeleteTo anyone suffering from anxiety and depression - please seek help. Even if it's only connecting with others on forums etc. Therapy is expensive but can turn your life around.
Also medication saves lives.
I'm on the fence with this one -- bullying can cause someone to commit suicide (read the news, it happens all the time to kids) but -- if Mary had a drinking problem before they split, maybe it was the reason they split and she couldn't stop the drinking/drug abuse, which caused her depression, which caused her to hang herself. What does her family say about the kids? Do they not realize what kind of trauma her decision is placing on her children? Or will they blame that on the ex-husband too. And where were her family when she needed them? Don't blame anyone except the person who decided to solve a temporary problem with a permanent solution. I hate suicide because it hurts the ones that love you so much. I've been there a few times.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I dont blame him for her depression and drinking. I read he tried to get her help many many times and she wasnt having it. She didnt hv custody of the kids; so there had to hv been a problem with her behavior. And he can certainly be distraught and shocked; I doubt this was ever his end game. Suicide and depression are nasty insidious diseases that no outsider can "fix.". Her family is talking from grief. If she cld hv been saved, they would hAve done it. Some things just are, there is no blame to place. And when I say that about her family, I mean it in a loving way. You just cant fiz some people. I, too, speak from experience. Also, its fine to feel sorry for addicted person, but as some who has lived with addicts, they make ur life a living hell. Their disease becomes your disease. Its easy to speculate about causes and such, its a whole nother thing to live with it. Her poor kids! And I highly doubt he abandonded his kids and went out to Ca. U can say what u want about Kennedy's , but they are family oriented.
DeleteShe was going up the Kennedy name and money in court in Westchester county, ny!!!! Come on. She must of been Terrified of loosing not only material things but her flesh and blood, her children.
ReplyDeleteEvil scum bag that estranged husband of her's. And can't say I like Hines anymore for dating the POS.
I don't blame RFK for the drug/alcohol problems, but I think he contributed to them. And with his money it would have been easy enough to set up some kind of trust so that she'd know she wouldn't lose her home, and make sure her bills were paid. He's just a Kennedy asshole who did whatever he wanted to do.
ReplyDeleteI can't keep these Kennedys separate sometime - is he the one whose first wife refused to cooperate on a RC church annullment so he could marry this wife in the Church? Or was it a brother or cousin? Either way, I wish the whole clan would just go away. Or at least stop procreating.
@Susan, that was Joe Kennedy who tried to annul his marriage to his inconvenient first wife. He is RFK Jr.'s brother.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of a Kennedy wife who hasn't suffered. Cheryl left her husband for RFK, Jr. She should rethink this decision, the karma here can't be good.
ReplyDeleteRIP, Mary.
You know, I'm sure he was (and is) a selfish, entitled Kennedy bastard, but with the other Kennedy redeeming qualities of noblesse oblige and admirable public service. Seems with Kennedy men, it's hard to get one without the other.
ReplyDeleteBut Mary's severe substance abuse was not "caused" by anyone. Addiction is a disease and one that, unfortunately, cannot be recovered from by anyone else but the addicted themselves. I'd blame her disease for her suicide, not her husband.
As for the restraining orders, when you look at the police reports from the few incidents that were NOT covered up, you can see that Mary's addiction was causing her to behave in ways that could be perceived as dangerous, both to herself and to her children. And possibly her ex and his new GF.
I'm sure she was a lovely person...but addiction can rob anyone of their good qualities if it gets bad enough.
If I understand this...the Kennedy "MONEY" is less and less with each generation born. Since most have chosen life's in the public service they don't really earn much...
ReplyDeleteSo apart from Jackie....and maybe the Shriver's ...the trust must be dwindling...
They said Teddy invested the trust in real estate and did well...but all those kids, each getting a cut how much can there be left ?
RFK Jr. probably wanted the kids so he would not have to pay support !

Although I have my issues with President Obama - whom I voted for - at least he appears to be an honorable family man.
ReplyDelete@Nuttyflavor - thanks! It's like trying to tell one cockroach from another when there's a whole swarm of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Masshole. I can't stand any of these Kennedy scum.
ReplyDeleteI am willing to believe that RFK drove her to it. I know what it is like to have to deal with someone who lives to torment you. I had a boss like that a few years ago. She had it out for me before she even got the job, because I am friends with someone she had terrorized at her previous job. This woman made it her personal mission in life to make me miserable. She picked and picked away at me, called me out for everything she possibly could, made up things to punish me for, lied about me, and was an all-around twatwaffle to me 24/7. This went on for three years. I started drinking more than I should and taking too many pills. I was diagnosed with clinical depression. But I was trapped in the job because I am in a highly specialized field and positions are few and far between. She finally left to go to USC in LA. Unfortunately she hasn't been killed in an earthquake or random crime yet. But I still hold out hope that she gets caught in a gangland shootout.
So, long story long, people CAN drive others to actions they would never normally take. Mine was just a boss; having it be your husband and the father of your kids must be immeasurably worse.
Tex- I hope that nasty ass person gets whats coming to her someday. Thats the only way some realize what dicks they have been.
DeleteDo not mess with the enty bloggers, lol!! We will take u down!!!!!
It's really sad that she committed suicide, but the only blame lies with her depression, not him. You cannot blame her taking her own life on anything he's done. If her family knew how sick she was they are in part responsible for not getting her treatment. They could have had her committed knowing that she was a danger to herself. I realize that the denial is part of the grief process, but nobody is going to have compassion for a family that chooses to place false blame inthe public and not just make these children that lost their mother.
ReplyDeleteFather's Day is going to be awkward.
ReplyDeleteMISCH, ITA, I don't think they have the money most people think they have. The Kennedy bunch involved too many kids and the pieces of prohibition pie got smaller and smaller. Jackie got some of Ari's money and a nice friend like Maurice to manage it very well for her.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Paris Hilton or her family have that much money either. Oh sure, more than the average person, but not on the scale they portray to the public.
I hope Mary got some satisfaction in the last moments of her life just thinking about Junior looking like a dickhead for driving her to suicide.
Now wait...let me get this straight! (First of all know that I am no fan of the Kennedy's.) But her family is out of their minds. She was a grown woman who was responsible for her own demons and her own financial problems. RFK did not force her to drink, drive drunk, take drugs and most importantly, choose to end her own life.
ReplyDeleteNo one can CAUSE your depression and addiction issues, just as no one can cure them for you either. If her family had been so worried about her, why didn't they stop this from happening??? Oh...I know...because at the end of the day, you can not keep someone from taking their own life and making self destructive choices, no matter their age, sex or social status.
While it is a shame her life had to end this way, it was by her own choice.
LOL, thanks, Aunt Liddy! When Tropical Storm Allison hit Houston, her house was flooded and then infested with mold. I laughed and laughed, especially since my apartment was two blocks away and my place was perfectly fine. I figured it was God getting a little payback on my behalf. She also fell off a curb and broke her ankle once. Too bad they didn't have to amputate.
ReplyDelete@Ice Angel: "No one can CAUSE your depression and addiction issues..." I really, really hope you never meet anyone who will change your opinion, Ice Angel. Because let me tell you, some people are such pure poison that they are toxic to others.
Well, considering my own problems with depression, I'm not going to comment on how Mary might have been feeling or who/what drove her to it. I've sat there with the means to die in my hands and come so close. I know what pain I was in, I can only imagine the intensity of the pain she was in.
ReplyDeleteI think Robert Jr is the one that was probably lying about his illness being caused by toxic mold or something? He lost credibility when he took his environmental activism to an extreme that wasn't supported by science, made the movement look bad, so screw him.
when depression reaches the point of suicide it is the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain that makes a person think only about how everyone is against then and how they are being victimized to the point of never being able to be happy again. alchohol is also a depressant, so add that to the chemical imbalance and you have a person fighting two demons.
ReplyDeletei think that without knowing all the facts, including her medical history, it is irresponsible to place blame on an ex-husband (or anyone else) as being the cause of her suicide. and if he already does have custody of the kids, maybe he took them to protect them from their mother and her illnesses.

ReplyDeleteCheryl and RFK Jr both filed for divorce within months of each other. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteLike someone mentioned earlier, JFK Jr left his first wife for Mary and now seems to have left Mary for Cheryl. I guess what comes around goes around.
I also read at another site that JFK Jr kicked her two sisters out of the house when they came over after the suicide.
She's the one who ultimately took her own life yes, but I think it's possible for someone to get so far down a black hole that they do what was previously unthinkable because they are not processing rationally anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fair to say that Robert contributed to her demise because she was his WIFE, and he left her when she was clearly troubled and vulnerable to selfishly take up with a Hollywood actress.
As a former heroin addict, he more than most is aware of the understanding and support required to overcome a serious substance abuse problem. He is a personification of the word CAD.
hmmm. I wondered about this. It crossed my mind but I thought I was just being my cynical self. so so sad.
ReplyDelete@ JJ: Very sorry for your loss. I understand all too well. Tomorrow will be 2 months since my brother kllled himself.
ReplyDeleteLike others have said only Mary knows why she did it, and blaming it all on her estranged husband isn't right. I have battled depression and when you get to that point there is just nothing else that seems to be the answer. Also blaming him for her addiction is a joke. It was her issue not hers. Now the Kennedy's do have quite the reputation for partying, but that is probably what attracted her to him. And like a few others said, she knew what she was getting into, she had been friends with her sister since she was a teenager.
Oh and to say that since they were still technically married that he shouldn't be dating anyone is ludicrious. He filed for divorce in 2010. I'm sure that the divorce has been dragging on because of money and custody issues. I'm in the middle of getting a divorce from an abusive addict who is self-destructing but I have recently met a wonderful man. Was I supposed to say no just because the papers are finalized?
Isn't it funny how all these high profile Democrats, the Kennedy's, Clinton, Edwards, Anthony Weiner, good feminists all, treat their women like crap?
ReplyDeleteIt is almost as if it is all a charade or something.
Or perhaps, "feminism" is nothing more than "give me free stuff from the government" now a days.
JJ and NLAA my heart goes out to you for your loss.
ReplyDeleteJJ: so sorry.
ReplyDeleteCake: Totally agree--things never DO add up where the Kennedys are involved.
I can't even imagine what it would take to make someone hang themselves. HANG themselves. Awful.
There are no winners here. But again, the Kennedys come out looking like the trash they are.
Fuck the Kennedys.
ReplyDelete@Jay - Conservatives do it too. Newt Gingrich anybody!? Mark Sanford. John Ensign. Rudy Giuliani. Jimmy Swaggart.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how all these high profile Conservatives, good Christians all, treat THEIR women like crap?
I don't buy it. Grieving family bitterness. Altho RFK jr. is probably a turd of epic porportions, he didn't tie the noose and kick out the chair.
ReplyDelete@Jay: Real pretty glass house you've got there...it'd be a shame if anything happened to it...
ReplyDeleteThere are assholes at all stops on the political spectrum, from the far left to the far right; likewise, there are people who preach one thing in public but behave quite differently in private at all stops as well, and I believe everyone here is in agreement on that fact.
Piggybacking on the tragic death of an unfortunate woman for the sole purpose of spouting your personal agenda against "feminism" (I do not think that word means what you think it means...) does not speak well of you. There are many forums and comments sections which would be far more congenial to you than this particular one; I highly recommend you seek them out.
Whoa, I was wondering why jasonblueeyes was talking politics, glad I saw robin's comments! Jay, please - ditto what robin said so eloquently...
ReplyDeleteHaving worked in Republican politics, I can safely say that is the pot calling the kettle...it is equal opportunity w/cheaters - men and women alike. And though I read this on some other blog, there are plenty of Christian Democrats - being a Christian does not = Republican. Same goes for black Democrats. There are plenty of black Republicans. I got so mad as I read this.
Back to the Kennedy family. It makes me wonder if the Bible verse about sins of the father being passed down are true, could they truly have been cursed, or does this family just have a LOT of tragedies for some unknown reason?!?
I agree w/those who said living w/an addict is Hell. Who knows how long he gave her one more chance before finally filing for divorce?!?
I also agree w/those who said that things never add u w/the Kennedy family.
Finally, my thoughts go out to those of you who lost family members to suicide.
@ Robin the Mad Photographer
ReplyDeleteNo Republicans claim the mantle of "feminism" that is a Democrat thing.
Pointing out Republican leaders cheat doesn't speak to that fact at all.
There are many forums and comments sections which would be far more congenial to you than this particular one; I highly recommend you seek them out.
ReplyDelete=========================
Good for you, but I'll pass on your recommendation.
Also, when the leftist here start spouting against all the "bigots" who oppose gay marriage in a post that has nothing to do with gay marriage, you chastised them, right?
Oh, and I would love, love, love for you to "educate" me on feminism.
Really, I would.
I'm not entirely convinced this was a suicide. If it were any other family perhaps, but not this one.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Cheryl Hines was dating this guy - poor gal! She should run, quickly, far away from him!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a pretty typical divorce. Most people fight over the kids and the money during a dissolution. I don't see how it makes him a douche or her a victim. There is a reason its taken 3 years and that is because they were both behaving badly. I guess you can blame it on the lawyers because they were the ones advocating for their clients. Depression can kill, substance abuse can kill... Life is hard! Is he not supposed to want custody of his children because she is depressed? They are legally separated, is he not allowed to date and move on? Geez.
ReplyDeleteThat Dems and Reps both have been known to treat their wives like shit speaks more to the type of men who are drawn to politics as a profession than anything else. Vain, power hungry assholes, more often than not.
ReplyDeleteAnd they are frequently attracted to emotionally compromised and not exactly super assertive women.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
And I can see that jay doesn't know jackshit about feminism or feminists, that he doesn't wish to be enlightened further (or at all,) and so I will now go merrily on my way.
Robert barred Mary's two sisters from entering her house Wednesday when they arrived to pick up her personal belongings. The sisters had to go to the local police to obtain permission to enter the house, and retrieved her belongings Thursday.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2012/05/18/suicide-divides-kennedy-relatives.html
I know nothing about the relationship of either of these two people. I don't know if she went to rehab frequently for years until her husband gave up. I don't know if she drove while intoxicated with kids in the car or had been nuts in front of the kids in the past scaring them, and this is why he may have sought custody. Or if she was a wonderful woman with an alcohol problem who was driven mad by a ruthless husband.
ReplyDeleteAddiction is so destructive of people around an addict - spouse and kids - that no one should be "required" to live with that person just because society believes addict needs support. Often, all that does is enable the behavior and worsen it.
My point is that none of you know about this marriage, either, so withhold judgment until you do.
I hate to bring up the "Kennedy curse," but stories like this make me wonder.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's not just the Kennedy men who cheat. Andrew Cuomo's Kennedy wife, Kerry, cheated on him. The NY papers had a field day with that one.
The Kennedy wealth is not as great as it once was.
Jackie Kennedy raised her kids away from the Kennedy clan for a reason.
