Mark Zuckerberg Gets Married

Pretty big week for Mark Zuckerberg. His company goes public and languishes. He becomes one of the richest people on the planet. His girlfriend graduates from medical school and to celebrate they hold a surprise wedding that people thought was going to be a graduation party. Prenup? They have been dating 9 years and started dating a year before Facebook was created.

  1. I bet he's a pain in the butt. But for 20 billion, I could overlook things.

  2. she has her own life and from what I read had a strict list of rules Mark had to abide by before they even started dating.

Though it may be the 9/11 for gold diggers. They seem like a happy low key couple.

  3. The look on her face says it all. Yes, I married for money, and yes, he's a big fat as*hole. She looks like a mail order bride that just found out that her husband wears the same underwear two weeks in a row.

  5. Um, she's also a doctor in her own right so although she'll never make as much money as Mark she definitely can hold her own financially.

  6. They met in Harvard, she is no dummy. If Faceboook goes belly up one day she might be the one supporting him.

  7. gladys, saying that she looks like a mail order bride is pretty racist.

when I saw the picture on gawker, I thought that they had taken a stock photo and placed their heads on other people's bodies.

while I wouldn't want to have as much money as they do, it must be quite nice not to have to worry about paying the rent, the bills, etc.

  8. So it's possible to keep a secret from the media these days? Amazing.

  9. Why so glum was my first thought. Their faces!

  10. ^^^^my mom said that, too! She said they look like two friends who got married.

She is no slacker though, so I'm sure it'll work.

  11. I totally give her the benefit of the doubt. They met before Facebook, and she is a Harvard educated doctor, not some starlet/model he met in a club.

  12. Even if fb does go belly up, I doubt she'll ever have to support him. It's gotta be damn near impossible to lose over $20billion in one's lifetime.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's perfectly possible to loose $20 billion overnight, let alone in a lifetime. It's not 'real money' unless MZ sells his shares, and that's not going to happen. Just cash in a mill or two and spread the risk.

The shares I bought in my employer have lost 96% of the price I paid. Who knew banking would ever go tits up?

Good luck to the couple. She's worked at Facebook since it started, as well as studying, so kudos to the bride.

  14. So what happened to the girl he was obsessed with in the movie?? Oh wait.. It's a movie.. LOL.

  15. Yes it is totally possible to lose billions in a lifetime.

    Just ask Ted Turner.

  16. I saw a clip of them at the reception on the news last night, and they both looked very happy, so I'll chalk it up to a really awkward photo (been there, done that, although not in a wedding photo). Mazel tov, you crazy kids! :-)

  17. Never said it was completely impossible, and call me crazy but I'm sure Zuckerberg has much better head on his shoulders than Ted Turner.

  18. I bet Mark gifted her some of those early valuable shares for birthdays, and other holidays....
Why do you think the stock didn't fly ? The early birds started cashing out, I read Morgan Stanley kept pumping money into shares to keep the price at $38....
This is going to be interesting to watch...the stock I mean..

  19. Annabella, you're right. I didn't think of it that way (when I said the comment about the underwear, I was thinking about those prairie brides from Ireland or wherever), but I should not have written that. Apologies to anyone I offended. I was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  20. and Yes I think it was an awkward shot. Do you think the press might have picked the shot that wasn't the best to cause discussion? hmmm

  21. Oh and by the way, Surprise Weddings are awesome! I also went to a 'graduation party' that turned into a surprise wedding. It was wonderful!!! Kudos to them for keeping this low key and private. If it were scheduled , especially this week, it would have been mayhem for them.

  22. He's so down to earth for how his life has changed since Harvard. No one in similar circumstances has remained basically the same except him and she's lovely. I don't doubt that they're the real deal, and good for them.

  23. So is there a prenup?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I cannot even express how much I admire him for sticking with the same girfriend, and for choosing a BRANIAC over a bimbo! Congratulations to them!

  26. The press used the most awkward shot they could find. I'm sure they worked out a very fair pre-nup. I hope they are very happy.

  27. I actually like to picture. People are looking for something that's not there. It's a single second in time.

Some people are more reserved. They don't have to be googly eyed or engaged in tonsil hockey in every wedding pic.

I think she is lovely and just glowing. He could have worn a bit more tailored of a suit, but to each his own.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Happy for them. They are obviously meant for each other having been together all these years. And yes, she is definitely his intellectual equal. I'll bet they didn't do a prenup because after all these years with his intense celebrity and loyalty there is probably a lot of trust between those two. Call me a hopeless romantic.

  29. Look at the cold body language in that pix....both of them with their hands at their side....not the least bit affectionate with each other. Deserve each other.

  30. I think this is the shot they posted on their own FB pages. And as to why FB IPO went so badly, here's what I believe: valuation is wayy inflated. You're right, underwriters propped it up or it'd gone way down. But so many of our Bay area reporters have been really giddy over this IPO. Don't buy it at any price. The stock's not going to do anything. If you want more reasons, I wrote about it this week:

  31. He and his wife have been doing charity work for some time now. I think it's honorable they married and wish them well. He's also signed the pledge to give half his earnings to charity. Hard to argue with these two.

  32. Who was the Victoria's secret model he had a one night stand with back in the day? Does anybody know?

    ReplyDelete
  33. they posted that photo on facebook. i get the impression that he does facebook because ots his passion. until recently he didn't even own a home, and their home is nothing you'd expect. its a nice home, but its nothing about it is over the top. seem like a couple of geeks that don't like the spot light. i don't beleive in marriage, but i wish them well.

  34. He didn't need a prenup. He married her the day after he made his billions -- she's not entitled to any of it. And just to be safe, he also married her just in time to be sure they never crossed the 10-year mark making them common-law husband and wife in California. It'll be the subject of future litigation -- he screws over everyone significant in his life with shitty -- but technically legal -- financial maneuvers.

  35. Zuckerberg sold 30 million of his shares Friday, making him a billionaire one day before he married her. I don't know why anyone is unclear on the fact that he did indeed sell shares -- it's all over the news.

  36. Surprised he bothered to wear a suit and didnt wear a hoodie. I don't like this guy. Cant exactly explain why, I just don't.

  38. Gladys Kravitz, not everyone marries for looks and money. You obviously don't know anything about them. They've been dating for nine years and a year before facebook started. Calling her a mail order bride is beyond gross. I don't know why comments like that don't get flagged. Jealous Hater.

  39. @Amy- Sounds almost right-But Ca doesn't recognize Common Law Marriages. Only a few states do. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ Amy, Mark Zuckerberg has a 2012 tax bill of $1 billion-plus. That is why he sold the stock - to pay it.

He's been a billionaire - one of the richest - for years.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I thought he already had like $4 billion before he went public.

    ReplyDelete
  42. According to Forbes, Mark Zuckerberg's net worth before the public offering of stock was $17.5 Billion as of March 2012.

(It is estimated his net worth is now somewhere around $21 Billion)

Common-law marriages are not recognized in California.

  45. @Unknown

Uh, I apologized above. You're right, that was racist, although I also explained above that I wasn't even thinking about ASIAN mail order brides, but rather the ones you see in the old time photos of the West--women who landed in Nowhere, Oklahoma, from Ireland or wherever. To me, that's what the couple in this photo resembles---American Gothic without the pitchforks.

As for me knowing nothing about him, you're right, except what I saw in the movie. I can tell you that it would take a lot more than money to motivate me to marry the person portrayed in the film, no matter how rich or good looking. And yes, you're right, people do marry for more than money and looks. I know I did and I am far from a jealous hater. I'm a lucky, happy woman---

  46. @GladysK
I thought the same. They look stiff and as if they just met in that photo. Just like a mail order bride would.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Amy, I'd just read about them getting married one day *after* the IPO and so excluding that money from marital property - but wow, I hadn't realized the common-law marriage threshold date was coming up on them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @weezy
There is no common law marriage in CA. Doesn't matter when they get married. Geez!
