Jim Parsons Comes Out
Watching Big Bang Theory got even a little better this week as Jim Parsons came out in an interview with The NY Times. It is not like he has been hiding it because he has been in a relationship for the past ten years, but it was not out there publicly so it was nice to see him do it and to drive another nail in the coffin of the stigma that you can't be gay and be a star in Hollywood. Jim is going to do Harvey on Broadway and I think he is going to be great in it. he kind of has that Jimmy Stewart kind of vibe about him.
oh really?
ReplyDeleteI could've sworn I saw him on Conan a few years ago talking about his boyfriend, but maybe I just imagined that.
ReplyDeleteI really like him, but BBT is one of the unfunniest shows I've ever seen so the only chance I get to see him is on talk shows.

ReplyDeleteI like him too. I thought he was already out though. Good for him for saying it out loud!
ReplyDeleteLoved him ever since he was the knight in Garden State! Good for you Jim (and I agree about him and Jimmy Stewart!)
ReplyDeleteOT but enty only needs about 10 more twitter followers til the big reveal!
There's nothing about this man I don't like. I think he would be an amazing, loyal friend.
ReplyDeleteHappy for you Jim.
He is my imaginary gay son and I love him.I liked the way he "came out" via the profile(no bells and whistles, also no surprise).I would see him in Harvey in a heartbeat. Wonder what justification I can use to fit that into my budget ......
ReplyDeleteMental health medication? Lol
Delete@rejectedcarebear - hope he reveals the singer BI thingy - I forget the name of it ? Only 10 wish I could twit/twat/whatever.
ReplyDeleteI think its the loooong blind about a director.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was out. I only like him in interviews. I think he TV show sucks.
ReplyDeleteI like Big Bang Theory, really funny. Thank god we're getting to a place where being gay is just not even a thing. Good for him.
ReplyDelete@rejected - ooh, the director with the "lost weekend" or whatever? Didn't we all think Tarentino on that? That was an epic blind!
ReplyDeleteKnow what? Knew he was gay, thought he was out- it just doesnt matter! Be happy!
ReplyDeleteYes! The long weekend blind with the director. I'm pretty sure its QT esp since enty has said that he's tight with Uma.
ReplyDeleteI was more surprised that he is 39! Holy shit he looks good!
ReplyDelete@rejected and frufra, thanks. I remember that. That will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is a non-story since he was already out. But he has something to promote. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I really like him, I think he's amazingly talented. The episode where they were messing with him and kept getting him to repeat the rules of Rock-Paper-Lizard-Spock was epic. Kudos to him for being able to do that.
ReplyDeleteI love Jim and am kind of sad for ladies because he's so awesome but good for him. Now I realize why I have a crush on him, the same reason I will always have one on Jimmy Stewart- they have something similar going on. And BBT is funny when he is talking or the episode is focused on him!
ReplyDeleteI love BBT. Jim - "Sheldon" makes the show. I could do with out Amy but enjoy the other characters a lot.
ReplyDelete*without (grrr). Also, would love to see Jim in Harvey. Loved Jimmy Stewart too.
ReplyDeleteHappy for him...and I love BBT and the cast.
ReplyDeleteI could go without leonard and penny on BBT
ReplyDeleteHe's been out for awhile now.
ReplyDeleteI love Harvey! I'm so glad he's doing it. I would definitely go see it if I had the opportunity, especially knowing he's the star.
ReplyDeletehe's 39?!
ReplyDeleteCount me In on the holy shit, he's 39?? Train. That's the real story here!
ReplyDeleteI sorta wondered if he was since he's 39 YRS old and not married, and now that he confirmed it you can kind of see the "gay" in the "Sheldon" character's mannerisms and speech.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Parsons was either "in" or "out." He was just living his life without making a federal case about it. I believe he thought, rightfully so, that his sexual orientation is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and has nothing to do with his abilities as an actor. I wish more people just did their thing without issuing a press release every time they go to the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteHe thanked his partner by name when he won an emmy in 2010. So I guess that is what people remember as 'previously' coming out?
ReplyDeleteOT: Texshan , whoa, that is some baseball team you got there. Very, very envious. We watch them as we watch all baseball teams (baseball is my husband's religion).
Agent - are you referring to the Rangers? Because they're our religion, too :-)! Hubby dreams of becoming an umpire someday.
ReplyDelete@lisap515 - totally agree with you about Amy! Sheldon always struck me as a little autistic. But I love that show! Even watching the reruns makes me laugh. Didn't know Jim Parsons was gay, don't care. If you're a good actor, people will forget what they know about you personally.
ReplyDelete@Texshan - baseball is our other religion also. He's a Yankee fan, I'm from Pittsburgh so obviously the Pirates (I know, I know, but they're my team and I love them.)
Baseball fans, yeah ! Frufra, yes I am envious of the Rangers. I am orig from Boston hence Red Sox fan, but I married a Yankees fan. Oh, did my family give him crap.....2004 was the best World Series , ever.
ReplyDelete@susan, my husband was signed to a letter of intent by the Pirates in the 70's!He blew his knee out in center field and never made it into the minors.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be OT, just glad to know there are baseball fans here:)
I love the Big Bang Theory and I especially love Sheldon Cooper. Jim Parsons is a great actor. I think it is great that more and more people are voluntarily coming out and it is becoming so much less of an issue.
ReplyDelete@Agent*It - so sorry about your husband!!! We try to get over to Bradenton every couple of years to watch the Yankees & Pirates during spring training - Bradenton has a great single A ballpark - he would have loved it.
ReplyDeleteIn West Palm Beach, we have regular Wednesday night tickets to see either the Marlins or Cardinals single A team play - and luckily Miami sends their rehab players to that team for rehab. So we get to see them, and earlier this year, AJ Burnett was pitching for Bradenton as part of his rehab. Add these games to watching MLB channel at least 3 hours a day during the season and it really adds up!
Sorry to be OT, guys. But when you worship at the shrine of baseball......
@SusanB, we are neighbors here is SoFL !! South of you, in Broward.
ReplyDeleteAnother BBT fan here! At least when Sheldon and Raj are on. Parsons elevates the acting of anyone around him.
ReplyDeleteAlso, he's from Spring, TX, and I lived in the Houston area for 10+ years, so we "share" that, ha ha.
And we should be talking basketball--how about the OKC Thunder and SA Spurs games comin' up?
Former ball/bat girl for the Mets spring training years ago, Yankee fan by birth. And Jim has been happily out for awhile. When he was on Judging Amy, I saw a completely different side to him. Love BBT!
ReplyDeleteyou can kind of see the "gay"
ReplyDeleteI am laughing so hard at this. Come on. His character is obviously on the autism/Asperger's spectrum; if anything, Sheldon is asexual.
Good for you, Mr. Parsons, for just living your life, not trying to hide anything, and being happy without trying to make excuses.
I only recently became a *rabid* BBT fan, even turning my husband on to it.
ReplyDeleteSheldon is definitely on the Aspberger's spectrum and asexual. Tho Amy Farrah-Fowler (LOVE her character too!) is doing her best to seduce him and might just yet, haha.
Penny and Leonard are the least dimensional of the characters. I like them, but they never develop.
I am now dying to see Jim Parsons in something else!
I love Jim so much. He is my imaginary gay BFF.
ReplyDeleteHe's been out for years. Just a suggestion: stop pulling a Perez and getting you "news" from Radar.
ReplyDeleteI think Mayim Bialik (sp?) deserves an Emmy for her reaction to the tiara.
ReplyDeleteGah...my favorite moment on bbt ever "I'm a princess and this is my tiara!!!!!!" :)
Delete@Agent*It - come on up and see ball at Roger Dean! It's a really nice park! We go to see the Cards in spring training every year. Just not a Marlins fan, though.
ReplyDelete@SusanB, went to the Yanks/Marlins exhibition game at the new Miami Marlins stadium. The stadium has a 360 degree view for fans, not a bad seat in the house, really impressive. The neighborhood, the lack of parking, and the price of it all .... well.....it was likely a 1x visit.
ReplyDeleteNow back to Jim, who MUST be a Rangers fan? Didn't he hail from Texas? Loving all the baseball fans.. hehe.
Yay for all the baseball talk! We dream of RV'ing it after retirement and seeing all the ballparks. Hubby would love to go to umpire school in Florida, too. It's only the best game in the world - that's all :-).
ReplyDeleteBut Momster, yup, OKC is high on the Thunder, no? I'm from SA, but will probably pull for the Thunder, because everyone's so sincerely in love with them here.
What about the poor Rays? They can't get no love from their hometown - so sad.
ReplyDeleteSF Giants fan:)
ReplyDelete@Frufra - that's our dream too! At least visit all the ballparks from St. Louis to the east.
ReplyDeleteWe like the Rays too - they don't have a high payroll but they produce quality baseball.
@Frufra, I'm stoked. But I would be happy for the Spurs, too. What, 14 or 18 games in a row won, impressive!
ReplyDeleteAnd if Parsons is a baseball fan, it might be the Astros instead of the Rangers, just sayin'.
Bazinga!
ReplyDeleteBazinga indeed!
ReplyDeleteBaseball road trip,everybody!
Any Blue Jay fans out there ?
This is great. If more actors can do this...you're right, Enty, the whole "faux relationship", repression thing will lose it's appeal to some. Of course, fake relationships for publicity have existed in Hollywood ever since the first Biograph Girl. A fake dating relationship to drum up magazine covers is one thing. But when people commit their whole lives to living a lie (listening, Mr. Travolta?), disaster surely follows.
ReplyDeleteAND - I hope casting directors are watching this...and will continue to cast openly gay men in straight roles to let them prove, THEY ARE ACTORS. No one deserves to lose their careers because of their sexual orientation, and no one deserves to have to hide their true selves from the light.
A sweatier, more anxious Jimmy Stewart vibe...
ReplyDelete@Momster - agreed, he may pull for the Stros ; isn't he from round those parts? My oldest son will never give up on his Astros - hope the new owner helps return them to their former glory.
ReplyDelete@Susan - we're even considering moving our "home base" (ha ha) to Ohio or thereabouts so we're closer to more parks.
ReplyDeleteOh, and St. Louis is such a great baseball town. We had a blast there last summer.
Ok, sorry Momster, you clearly state up thread that he's from Spring. Definitely an Astros fan if he's into baseball!
ReplyDeleteNot public? Enty have you seen any of his acceptance speeches? Doesn't Jim Parsons always thank his partner? It has been out there publicly and the NYT is just trying to make a play by acting like they were the first to know. This is just a ploy to sell papers not an huge announcement to the world. I know a lot of people like to keep to private and will go so far as to have the faux relationships, especially in HWood which is a shame. That doesn't mean that everyone who is gay has to come out and make a huge announcement about it. He treated his relationship exactly like anyone should. It involves him and his loved ones. No one else needs to know. This article wasn't even an interview where he came out. It simply states that the role that the article focuses on, "Resonated" with Jim because it was the role of a gay man and Jim is also gay. People acting like this is a huge deal is idiotic.
ReplyDeleteThat being said I agree about him bringing a modern day Jimmy Stewart vibe. I can buy it.
Sorry for the Ranger assumption.I have a mental block re Astros (not personal, Astro fans). It has to do with...Roger Clemens...
ReplyDeleteI want to go to St Louis stadium and San Francisco... and well, I'll shut up.
Um, guys, I am from Houston, not Dallas. I am DEFINITELY an Astros fan, and if Jim is into baseball, he is, too. There are very few Rangers fans in these parts, and there will be even fewer after this year. Next season that a-hole Bud Selig is forcing the Astros to move to the AL, where they have that bastardization of baseball known as the designated hitter, and the Rangers will be in our division. So, while I appreciate the love, the Rangers can suck it.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure: I worked in the Astros front office in the 90's. I love the team dearly no matter how much they may suck at times. But we did just sweep the Cubs! Woohoo!
SusanB :) I agree he must be autistic! And, Amy's character annoys because she is SO into Penny it drives me insane. I can't decide if she is bi and doesn't know it or if she is just loving being friends with a "popular" girl. I'll give Miyam props on the Tiara episode. THAT was funny. However, I would not watch BBT if not for Sheldon, Raj, Leonard & Penny! They always bring on the LOLs.
ReplyDelete@Tex - are we just not going to talk about the Silver Boot?
ReplyDeleteI kid, I kid. The rivalry will be fantastic. I'm super jelly that you worked in the front office, though. How awesome that must have been.
But even you have to admit that Stro Ball was hard to watch last year.
Fru, oh yeah, it's hard to watch sometimes. Even since the Killer B's left, it's been awful. but I love them and that will never change.
ReplyDeleteNo, we aren't going to talk about the Silver Boot. Next topic ...
@Lisa, I do wish they'd tone down the weirdly innappropriate comments from Amy but then again, I think she's just so into being friends with "the popular girl." But I love Amy Farrah Fowler.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that really bugs me is Raj's inability to talk to women. I wish they'd let up on that.
Oh, Tex, we saw them sweep the Cubs a few years back in Chicago. Thank God for the Cubbies! And Cubs fans are totally awesome, btw. True baseball lovers in that town.
ReplyDeleteI guess there's "out" and there's "People Magazine Out".
ReplyDeleteYou'd think after being on the train with Terminator's Summer Glau, Raj would have realized he CAN talk to women. I mean, he was SO in, and it was non-alcoholic. D@MN Howard for pointing that out and messing things up. LOL. Ok, I realize I know way too much a/b this show!
ReplyDelete@Texshan, sorry !
ReplyDeleteI thought you were a Rangers fan! OUCH ... ooh, I fell bad now.
I will 'unlike' the Rangers next time I watch them. Selig is an ass, he is destroying the playoffs.
i don't think anyone is arguing that one can't be a star in Hollywood, but you have to ask yourself if Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman and all the others would trade their careers for his!
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Agent! Honestly, I don't mind the Rangers, most Houstonians really don't. They get some love because of the Nolan Ryan connection. But they kick our butts year after year in the Silver Boot (a series of games played between the Rangers and the Astros). But it's not like the eeeeeeee-vil Cards, who are LOATHED in Houston. And of course, the Cards finally got rid of Pujols (or Poohole, as we call him down here) just in time for us to have to start playing the Angels, his new team, all of the time. Thanks again, Butt Selig!
ReplyDelete"I guess there's 'out' and there's 'People Magazine Out.'"
ReplyDeleteWell said.
I didn't read the comments so sorry if this has been said but didn't he thank his partner when he won the Golden Globe?
ReplyDeleteI love BBT,don't know who is my favorite character each one brings something delightful to the show. Love it when Sheldon knocks on Penny's door and she responds with some comment such as Penny..who loves you..penny..who loves you...penny
ReplyDeleteJim Parsons is gay, who cares? He is talented and adorable..
*FS "People magazine out"..love it
STL IS a great baseball town! Come on over to Busch and we'll hook you up with a brat and a Bud!
