Jessica Simpson Interview Brought To You By Weight Watchers
Kneepads has another portion of their interview with Jessica Simpson up. I am really hoping that Weight Watchers helped chip in for some of the $800K that People paid Jessica for the baby photos because the interview sounds exactly like a Weight Watchers commercial. In fact, I doubt if Jessica even uttered any of what is purported to be this portion of the "interview," and that a Weight Watchers publicist wrote the answers and People just nodded and smiled and got out their fluffy kneepads and wrote what they were told.
It talks about lifestyle and not yo-yo dieting. It mentions point systems and how she wants to focus on small steps and not a goal weight. It's ridiculous. This is not about Jessica as much as a magazine trying to pretend it somehow is reporting news rather than just printing what people tell it to print. The interview should have a big "Advertisement" up at the top of it so you know it is not real news.

ReplyDeleteSounds like absolutely every news outlet in the US. There are no real journalists anymore. Rachel Maddow and The Young Turks is about as close as we get.
Lainey actually ran a pretty good blog post about this "interview."
ReplyDeleteIf you saw the interview Oprah did with Jennifer Hudson on her last season of her talk show, JHud had her WW "advisor" sitting in the front row and kept watching her to make sure she answered any weight loss questions correctly. Oprah kept pressing her to tell the number of pounds she lost and Jennifer kept looking at the woman and Oprah said "WHO IS THAT????" and then finally Jennifer said 80 lb (I think that was the amount) and kind of said they didn't like her to focus on the pounds but rather the health benefits, etc. It was like they sent her a minder to keep her on message, lol.
ReplyDeleteLainey sucks ass.
ReplyDeleteSara Ganim is a 24 year old journalist .

Rachel Maddow is a political commentator- there is a big difference between the two professions.
Enty, another " portion" of their interview" ----- hahaha , that was funny !
Ahh, jessica isnt doing anything any other celeb would/has done.
ReplyDeleteIt's essentially an Advertorial. Without the disclosure...
ReplyDeleteBondGirl, "Advertorial" :)
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of thing ol' Federline needed.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I understand what the problem is here. She had a baby, she gained some weight, now she is getting PAID to lose the weight. No shame on Jessica. No shame on Weight Watchers for trying to advertise just like any other company. Jmo.

ReplyDeleteIt's People, people! If you want real journalism, read The Economist.
ReplyDeleteJessica was working on her Weight Watchers deal back in what, November, December? She didn't even know that she'd need to lose any weight when the talks started. Part of me wonders if she gained so much because it would be more dramatic when she lost it.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's just your typical People cover. Nothing new there.
ReplyDeleteAnother one bites the dust! *L*
ReplyDeleteIf we're looking to People magazine for journalistic integrity, we need to examine ourselves. It's Tiger Beat or Pixie for adults.
ReplyDelete4 million dollars. There is just so much wrong with that, IMO.
ReplyDeleteJessica struggles with her weight, and even if she loses a ton for millions of dollars, she'll gain a lot of it back. she always does. She had to starve herself to be that "Dukes of Hazzard" skinny. Ashlee is naturally thin, with a better body.
But they both suck, and I wish they'd disappear.
$800,000 for the pic of some dumb blonde has been and yet Beyonce who I am not a fan of but is the top female artist currently only got offered $200k!?!?! Wholly racism Batman
ReplyDeleteFunny, my husband and were discussing that at lunch. Like when black kis or young dissappears, almost no press. But if its white kid or girl, its all over the news. Also if black family has multiple children, no stories, no freebies. But a white couple!!! Stories, freebies galore. We were both saying we dont get it. One is as sad or interesting as the other.
DeleteBut do they blow? THAT is the question.
ReplyDeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth, MyMamasChild. I don't get the Jessica bashing either. She can't win. Her fiance not working makes him a loser, but her methods of making money are constantly scrutinized and criticized.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the article, but it doesn't sound like she is promoting any dangerous weight loss techniques or brushing it off like she is genetically "blessed".
@Montana, I don't think Beyonce had any weight to lose !!
ReplyDeleteWW is a paid sponsor for kneepads, thus the tie in and the ridiculous amount of money paid out.(Kneepads just bills WW a higher fee for these ads and in turn kneepads pads her fee).
"Wholly racism Batman"- LOL.Like that one:)
Jessica is pimping the game and i dont blame her! What else does she have to offer.
ReplyDeleteChile, as a person of color, I can write a book on the double standard the media portrays when it covers White vs. Black/Latino issues. I will never forget during Hurricane Katrina, when the struggling White families were reported as "scavenging" for food and the Black families were reported as "looting" SMDH @auntliddy

ReplyDeleteMore power to Jessica for trying to lose her weight in a 'healthy, normal' way and good luck to her on WW. It does not work for everyone (I just cancelled my membership) and I would not be at all surprised if she has a hard time with it. I would not want her life, the scrutiny and criticism she is subjected to is brutal.
ReplyDelete@VickiCupper Agreed and ooooffff coooouuuurrrrsseee!
ReplyDeleteNPR still does real journalism. Thank god.
ReplyDeleteShame on that effin photoshop job though. The lower half of her face is missing. Also that baby looks like it was posed with pipe cleaners taped to its limbs.
