George Lindsey Has Died
George Lindsey, the Southern-born character actor who played dim hayseed Goober Pyle, the genial gas station auto mechanic on "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Mayberry R.F.D.," died early Sunday morning. He was 83.
Lindsey, who later was a regular on the long-running country music comedy show "Hee Haw," died at a healthcare center in Nashville after a brief illness, said his manager and booking agent, Carrie Moore-Reed.

ReplyDeleteRIP, George. I think he used to be a high school teacher before he became an actor.
ReplyDeleteHe was always fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteRIP
RIP Goober! You always made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteAnd Gomer was Goober's cousin.
How sad! My dad sat next to him on a plane once & said he was a pretty interesting guy.
ReplyDeleteMay he rest in peace.
What a delightful human being, and if you're going to die, how great would it be to be as fondly remembered as George Lindsay is?
ReplyDeleteI remember a funny bit he did recently (if ~15 years ago is recent!) on NewsRadio, when the scammer kid sold Jimmy James "George Lindsey's skull" and George Lindsey appeared in court to testify that the skull was not actually his. (I remember laughing because he felt the bumps and contours of the skull before declaring that it was not his.)
