Dario Franchetti Wins Indy 500 - Ashley Judd Steals Spotlight
It seems like every year that Dario Franchetti wins the Indy 500 and that every year whatever photos you see of him invariably have way more of his wife squeezed into the frame then the actual winner of the race. Ashley Judd loves the Indy 500. It is not a huge celebrity driven sport so she is guaranteed lots of face time on camera where she always manages to do run through what she perceives to be the emotions that a race car spouse should have. I actually have stopped watching the race because every year she shows the the same three or four emotions and rotates them for each time she is on camera.
I love the photo I use in this post because this is Ashley Judd in a nutshell. All the drivers acknowledge the crowd. Somehow Ashley thinks the fans are cheering for her too.
I'd do the same thing. I'm shameless for attention.
ReplyDeleteI was in a sports bar yesterday watching a baseball game and the Indy race was on a few of the screens. She was waving a lot when she was alone and I thought the exact same thing.
ReplyDelete@Anita - HA! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt could be me but I am starting to get the impression Enty doesn't like that lady all that much. *eyeroll*
Well, she is his wife, so I can sort of appreciate her thinking "We won! We won!"
ReplyDeletelol @ anita_mark
The photo does give the impression that they both drove the race and are now waving triumphantly.
ReplyDeleteI saw a glimpse of her on the national news last night - it looked like she didn't have any makeup on and her face was all puffy.
ReplyDeleteHer "people" tried to say she was puffy due to a steroid she was taking. I call bullshit. Looks like bad facial fillers to me...she looks hideous.
DeleteFertility drugs can also do that. I remember a blind about an actress trying to conceive and something about an athlete husband right?
DeleteSusanB, careful, she'll come down on you now as someone trying to repress all women.
ReplyDeleteyes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I can't believe that he would put up w/that narcissism. he worked hard for the win, obviously. do spouses get gold medals w/their athlete husband/wives at the olympics? uh, no they don't.
ReplyDeletei'm just happy her show Missing tanked and was canceled. I guess she is just trying to glom onto something successful.
ReplyDeleteYeah, she didn't win. HE did. What a nut job.
ReplyDeleteSo, Ashley Judd is the same old a-hole as always. Something else new? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHaha I love how everyone's stuck on how full of herself Ashley is, when all I can see in the photo is Dario walking with the Target dog! Too cute, although I think the little guy could use some water!
ReplyDeleteThere is no "I" in team. The only problem is no one told her she's not on the team.
ReplyDeleteDuring the race one commentator was reporting and I saw this woman sitting all alone with her head down and I thought it looked like Judd because she wore a similar dress and hat when he won before. She must have been tipped off that the camera was on her because she stood up and got out of camera range really fast. She wasn't even watching the race!
ReplyDeleteWhen he won of course the camera was on her and when she was interviewed and she said she told Dario before the race "I'll see you in the winner's circle." So, ya, she already knew he'd win. How sweet. When she ran down the track to get to him I swear I heard boos from the crowd. Either his handlers did a good job this year of holding her back or she took longer waving to the crowd on her way down because he had time to kiss a queen, drink the milk, and enjoy the victory before Ashley finally came in for a hug. The last time he won she was held back by some man and it was funny as hell.
And even her ugly hat couldn't hide that puffy face.
I live in Indianapolis. Dario should know that his wife's antics make fans root AGAINST him. She is terrible for his career; he'd be wise to reign her in or dump her.
ReplyDeleteUnless he understands her issues, puts his achievements second and shares his spotlight willingly, I think this behavior is abusive on her part. Is he afraid to cross his wife?
I'd love a body language analysis of them after his wins.
I remember her running down the track then sitting on the nose of his car.
ReplyDeleteI think most any other mate in any other sport let's their winning mate have their moment and waits to offer their own congratulations. Ashely is the only one I remember always rushing to the forefront and acting as though it's her win as well.
Dario is either a saint or on the road a lot, no pun intended.
I'm going to have to take everyone else's word on Ashley's bad behavior, but as far as waving to the crowd, I'd probably do it, too, just to be friendly and acknowledge them cheering on my SO. As far as saying she'd see him in the winner's circle before the race, that doesn't strike me as any worse than most of what I've heard before a game/event (the usual "we're gonna win this thing" routine), so I won't hold that against her, either. Now, if she really is a bitch on wheels in real life, that's one thing, but I'll give her a pass on those two episodes.
ReplyDeletecalifblondy--I will guarantee those boos were real.
ReplyDeleteHoosiers are 'no bullshit' kind of people, I mean, we have a knack for detecting & shunning her brand of spotlight fakery.
She is HUGELY unpopular here for her antics. Not only for her husband' sake, but people feel she totally disrespects the traditions of the race. Needless to say, we're very proud of it.
Anyone remember when Emerson Fittapaldi won and drank orange juice instead of milk? People STILL bitterly bring that up as the 500 sin of the last century.
OMG! LOL, when I saw the winner ride around the track and it was Dario, Dan Wheldon's wife and Judd, and that was exactly what I thought to myself, at the way she was waving to the crowd and Dario and Dan Wheldon's widow were leaning into each other talking, and there was ashley, all erect and waving at the crowd like it was all for her.
ReplyDeleteAnd one other thing from yesterday...this was Dario's third win and dramatically Ashley held up one finger, then two, then three. Sarcastically a commentator said "Well, we know she can count to three." LOL. That cracked me up and spoke volumes of what racing insiders must think of her.
ReplyDelete....aaand if she didn't wave we'd all be calling her self involved bitch.
ReplyDelete@Jax....if you saw how she was waving, you'd understand. Catch a clip of her sitting in between Dario and Wheldon's widow taking the winner lap, and you"ll get the vibe we're noting here.

ReplyDeleteI agree with @Jax... if she didn't wave everyone would be complaining about that too... she would come off as a celebrity who seems to good to wave to the fans
ReplyDeleteAs long as Dario approves, I think that's all that matters.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I gotta disagree. I watch racing and have seen lots of OTHER wives who don't put on half the show Ashley does.
ReplyDeleteMaybe when she wins an Oscar he can do a victory lap through the audience and see how she likes it?
Oh wait, no chance of that happening...
She had tears running down her face when he won...Ah
ReplyDeleteEven the NASCAR wives, who's husbands are MUCH more popular than the Indy car drivers, don't act like that.. And most of the NASCAR fans know who the wives are, but they get the kiss when the driver gets out of the car, then stands aside.. They also do the "stand next to your husband with the cute kid" during the National Anthem.. Ingrid Gordon and Delana Harvick are 2 of my favorite wives. Tony Stewart just needs to call me :)
ReplyDeleteThat poor man!
ReplyDeleteI was there! It was awesome. :) The crowd did boo when they announced Ashley after Dario won. It was pretty hilarious. Martina McBride did an awesome job on the National Anthem, and they had a great memorial to Dan Wheldon.
ReplyDeletehey Libby, what is the thing with drinking milk, sounds kinda gross.....what about champers or beer???
ReplyDeleteRegaring the milk (from wiki), it's a tradition:
ReplyDeleteLouis Meyer requested a glass of buttermilk after winning his second Indy 500 race in 1933. After winning his third title in 1936, he requested another glass but instead received a bottle. He was captured by a photographer in the act of swigging from the bottle while holding up three fingers to signify the third win. A local dairy company executive recognized the marketing opportunity in the image and, being unaware Meyer was drinking buttermilk, offered a bottle of milk to the winners of future races. Milk has been presented each year since then apart from 1947 to 1955. Modern drivers are offered a choice of whole, 2%, and skim.[66]

ReplyDeleteI was watching this with my mom, she's a fan of Indy and I only kind of pay attention to it. At any rate, I even asked her, is it that normal for a wife/S.O. to give a speech before the race winner even gets to talk? Like someone up thread said, spouses and partners don't receive the gold medal along with the person who actually competed. Ashley Judd is sad on so many levels. I didn't know she got booed, but I am not surprised.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before, and I'll say it a thousand times more ... She is repugnant.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is so benign compared to the ones released today, the "formal" winner portraits, where Ashley is wearing the Borg-Warner floral winner's wreath (looking like a horse that's just won the Derby, actually).
She is absolutely ridiculous, and Dario would do well to reign her in. She's an idiot, and a joke to the racing community.
To add to my comment above, just do a Google search on Ashley Judd Indy 500 images, and there she is in all her puffy-faced glory ...
ReplyDeleteI think these photos make it much clearer:

@ Anita...LOL!!! Me too.
ReplyDeleteA clue to Ashley...when your face is pumped full of whatever she's got in there (can she still have that sinus infection?)...don't wear round sunglasses...it only accentuates the round chubby face.
ReplyDeleteYou guys will LOVE this on Ashley:
