Coldplay Performs Beastie Boys
Great tribute, but this song, even though it was the Beastie Boys biggest hit was not really who they were. Still though, at least they did something and on short notice too. The Goopster is probably ticked off that she was not invited to get up on stage and sing with the band.
After they did this, Chris ran to where Gwyneth was sitting and picked her up out of her chair and kissed her.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great tribute though.
@strawberrygirl - he didn't let her sing, so he had to make a grand romantic gesture to be able to be let into the house after the show.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I watched Country Strong last week. That is a couple of hours of my life that I'll never get back, but I couldn't turn away. It was like slowing down for a major car accident. What is up with this woman and her insisting that she is a songstress?
@Nolachickee, that movie just disappeared. I wondered about it. There was so much buzz when she was making it, then I never heard anything again (except - I think she won some award?)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up, that's something I would have eventually Redboxed.
No need to Redbox it, I'm sure CMT will have it on loop in another year or two.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Beastie Boys fan (completely neutral on them), I'm a middlin' Coldplay fan. I thought this tribute was well done and very touching.
I thought this was a beautiful tribute as well. I've seen some snarking about it on other websites, but do they expect coldplay to try to do it like the beastie boys did? sometimes people just need to know when to keep quiet and be appreciative.
ReplyDeleteYeahm License To Ill is still awesome and great and fun, but they really grew and matured with all their stuff afterward. For some reason I listen to Check Your Head and Ill Communication more but all their stuff is so damn good. R.I.P.
ReplyDeleteDamn, that made me tear up. I still can't believe he's gone. Us 80's kids are too young for this. :(
ReplyDeleteNot a huge Coldplay fan, but that was well done, and made me well up. I love The Beastie Boys and will miss MCA. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat tribute. It may not be their best song, but it's their best-known, and Coldplay did it right.
ReplyDeleteRIP Adam. Thanks for the years of fun music, hilarious videos, and especially that monster bass riff on "So What'cha Want".
While nice in a way, I do not appreciate this.
ReplyDeleteHe made a Beastie Boy song sound like a thousand Coldplay songs. That's just amazing. In the spring of 2001 I went to a Go-Go's show & they covered "I Wanna Be Sedated" dedicating it to the recently deceased Joey Ramone. That version was pretty faithful. But the Go-Go's started as a punk band so it's in their DNA.
ReplyDeleteI usually hate Coldplay with every pore on my body, but I thought this was a pretty classy tribute. Good for them. And R.I.P MCA!
ReplyDeleteI hate Coldplay and their tribute made me angry...they arent like the beasties and I dont expect them to sound like them, but that sounded terrible. they should leave their music alone. they should do what they do best...keep on sounding like a poor man's U2.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Beasties fan, and the best I can say is at least they messed with the least respresentative of the Beastie Boy's songs (though arguably the most well known).
I hate this Coldplay and they ruined the song, like they ruin every song, but it was still a nice gesture.
ReplyDeleteI guess.
Everyone should read the Go Fug Yourself review of Country Strong. It is hysterical, as are all their recaps. http://gofugyourself.com/fug-the-fromage-country-strong-06-2011
