Anne Hathaway's Ex Is Getting Out Of Prison
Just in time for the premiere of Dark Knight Rising, Anne Hathaway's ex, Raffaello Follieri is getting out of prison. He is getting out of jail tomorrow. Back in 2008 when he was sentenced, I really thought that Anne Hathaway was going to get thrown into jail too. Instead she sang like a canary and nothing happened to her and she keeps on making her millions of dollars a movie. When you read everything that happened, I just felt like she knew what was going on and that she knew he had been stealing almost $4M from people. They went out for four years. I find it hard to believe that such and intelligent person like Anne would not have some idea. Somehow though she stayed above it all. Raffaello got 4 1/2 years in jail. It will be interesting to see if they contact each other or if anyone asks Anne about it. They were dating right up to the day he got arrested.
File that under things that make me go hmmmmmmm too, Enty.
ReplyDeleteCount me in. She must have some powerful friends. Wonder what she did for those favors.
ReplyDeleteHer mouth must've been tired.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she engaged and pregnant now?
ReplyDeleteSure she knew what was going on! She just knew how to get out of it. I'm sure she gave the feds info on him.
I thought she was a lesbian and he bearded for her. If so, chances are she would barely know what was going on in his life.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere yesterday that once he's released, he will be taken into custody by ICE agents and deported back to Italy.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fair to say that she's moved on.
It's like when J.Lo had "nothing to do" with P.Diddy's gun incident and didn't know he had guns on him.
ReplyDeleteYeah right.
I don't know that she did know. It's amazing what people can hide from each other.
ReplyDeleteShe knew. The wife/girlfriend always does. If they're smart, they tell everything they know to the cops and walk away.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the many benefits of marriage, though - can't be forced to testify against your spouse.
@AZWConsulting
ReplyDeleteI remember that mess! That's how JBlow's real birthday came out. She couldn't lie to the cops.
She cooperated with federal agents, and got Follieri back to New York so he could be arrested. She was told that she would be charged as an accomplice if she did not comply. The money laundering aspect is of interest (to me). She was on the board of the Follieri Foundation which was under investigation for failing to file the correct tax forms and resigned. That foundation is the real story, an absolute profile in money laundering under the guise of "doing good". She knew something but was not the big salami, thus no charges.
ReplyDeletewhen did JLo ever lie about her birthdate?
ReplyDeleteKnowing she is guilty and proving she is guilty are two seperate things. But I think she was bamboozeled on some level by him. He gave her a lavish lifestyle and she didn't question it. Love makes you stupid.
Disagree on the Bamboozelment Defense for her.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Agent. Of all the people my hubby has prosecuted in the past ten years, not one spouse was in the dark. It's actually quite insulting to the intelligence of the wife if you think about it.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll add that it's always very difficult for people in the community to believe that the wife was in the know. "She's on the board at our school, I see her at church all the time", etc. We were in a relatively small town, and I literally had people come to my door and ask these questions!
Never thought of Anne Hathaway as being an intelligent person, especially after reading interviews with her. I was under the impression she got off because she was clueless and truly didn't know anything about it.
ReplyDeleteShe probably knew something, but, like timebob said, love makes you stupid.
ReplyDelete..or, the easy 'fabulous life' is so highly treasured by her that she "looked the other way".
ReplyDeleteI agree with enty , no Bamboozelment Defense. (He is ipo being deported from the US)
I meant the big salami is being deported, not Enty.
ReplyDeleteWe are the company we keep.
ReplyDeleteShe's was 22 when she met him and he was her first big love. How many of us were just as stupid about things with our first relationships? She probably knew some things but he was far more sophisticated than she. And I don't think other board members were investigated and tried, were they?
ReplyDeleteHathaway is a great Rorschach test for us to project onto. Me, I see all kinds of evil and duplicity, which reveals my mistrusting nature. Others show themselves to be more loving and optimistic, I note as I read these posts. She's probably a nice enough girl. Why was I always so harsh about her? Her entitled airs, perhaps? Ooo, there I go again....Where's that delete button?
ReplyDeleteUsually everybody's hands are dirty, but the smart/less involved parties turn state's evidence for a walk or reduced sentence. That's just how the Feds roll. I don't have any specific info on this case, though.
ReplyDelete@Barton, you're very insightful today - love it :-).
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fair to say she knew. She's a busy woman, she was young and in love. That in itself is not an excuse, but I'm sure that he took advantage of her naivety. If she didn't question, then she may not have known much at all. Though her being a board member doesn't really help...
ReplyDeleteDidn't she turn in jewelry and other things he bought her?
ReplyDeleteOnce again, steal 4mil spend a blip in jail. Sell ten dollars worth of crack (which I am not pro either, just anti insanity) and you get twenty years. Yeah I say it has to do with shade of skin.
ReplyDelete@Vicki Cupper, he must have powerful friends too. He shook down the Vatican for chrissakes! You don't just hobnob with those dudes unless you are someone.
and I too concur that hathaway knew what was up. she doesn't look dumb.
it is very possible that their case against her was very weak/lacking evidence and they used her to get him. It happens all the time.
ReplyDeleteSomeone smart enough to steal 4 million is certainly smart enough to manipulate those close to him.
ReplyDeleteNot saying she was in the dark, but I can see her being so self involved about her acting career that he could easily steer the conversation away from uncomfortable questions (if they were raised) by simply saying "That's how my business works, so tell me about your latest audition" or something.
Either way, she was smart to cooperate with the feds. Not saying she's a bright girl, but at least her attorneys were on the ball.
Wasn't she on the phone with him when he was arrested?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking from experience, yes, you can hide a lot from your spouse if you work hard enough at it, even if you live under the same roof 7 days a week.
ReplyDeleteI can believe it was easier for him since Anne was away often enough. Her position on the board was probably window dressing (lots of charities have one or two window dressing board members), I doubt she was reading the financial reports and checking the books herself. Yes, she gave the Feds almost every gift he ever gave her, including jewelry, as part of the case.
She is engaged, she is not pregnant. I think she has moved on but she seemed pretty scarred by the whole deal.
@Jason, she set him up as part of her deal with the Feds.Enty is really right on with this call. She was not ignorant of it nor was she window dressing. No Bamboozelment Defense for her. (Love that word, Timebob).
ReplyDeleteIf I was Anne Hathaway, I'd watch my back!
ReplyDeleteBarton Fink, go with your instincts. I have a friend of a friend who went to high school with her and said she was a heinous, conceited bitch, and no one could stand her.
ReplyDeleteI saw an American Greed episode about him. He did con alot of folks and is evil! Sorry but not buying that she knew nothing!
ReplyDeleteI was that spouse once. You can be fooled - you can be highly suspicious and paranoid but you can be fooled.
ReplyDeleteLove's a hell of a drug.
OMAMA is BROKO is bang on the money by the way. It's how the world works it seems.
I love Ivy League women, my ex-wife was among the first women admitted to Yale in the early '70's. So, Anne, I'm here, and I haven't got any felonies on my record, and I just L-O-V-E your breasts. I mean, your brains and personality.
ReplyDeleteAnd breasts.
@timebob
ReplyDeletefor some reason, jblow use to shave a year off her age. She said she was born 7/24/1970. That's what she said was her "official" birthdate. Even though everyone who grew-up with her said she was a year older.
When she got arrested with PDiddy,Puffy Poodle, or whatever he calls himself, she had to tell the cops her real age, and it became a matter of public record.
Mariah Carey is currently doing the same thing. Many state she is actually born in 1969, but she insists she is born in 1970. I don't why a year matters so much.
Hathaway, sure she could have been in love and in the dark, but nothing that I've read about it points in that direction. She cooperated with the feds to get her boyfriend arrested, so they must have had something on her for leverage. If I knew nothing and was "in love," I would have told the feds to fthemselves.
I can't do math. I'd be easily fooled. Isn't Hollywood to some extent a money laundering industry in and of itself? Then how would he seem to be anyone different from any other money-player she met there?
ReplyDeleteSoooo, if i'm a bimbo who has been flim-flammed, can i plead the BimBamBoFlamFloozled Defense?
ReplyDelete"BimBamBoFlamFloozled Defense" LOL
