Adam Levine Says He Hates Reality Television

Would you consider The Voice reality television? Survivor is a game show but it is a reality show. Are we calling The Voice strictly a talent competition? Adam Levine says in an interview that he can't stand reality television and that he would never watch any shows that follow people because has no desire to see anyone go to the grocery store and that his life is beautiful because he doesn't. Now, he says this now, but in five years when The Voice is over; no one listens to his music; and he is trying to stay relevant, the whole reality thing might appeal to him. That and if he finds some young girlfriend who begs him every week until he relents. The Voice is not scripted television, soooo isn't it reality?

  1. I hate that I don't hate Moves Like Jagger.

I hate all talent shows (except Project Runway).

  2. I consider The Voice a talent competition. Reality TV doesn't require any talent as Kim K so deftly demonstrates ;)

Reality TV bores me too, and Adam doesn't need the money. I place my bet on him opting to fade gracefully rather than desperately.

  3. Anita, I'm sure I hate it enough for the both of us. :)

Project Runway is the only one I could tolerate.

  4. I DETEST the whole "Reality" genre. And I am sorry Adam, but your show counts as one.

  5. No. Reality shows and talent competitions are different.

Think Real Housewives and Kardashians vs. X Factor. Not the same.

  6. Baloney -- American Idol most certainly is classified as a reality television competition. I'm sure the Voice is too.

  7. I consider it a sub-genre of reality.

  8. No, they're not the same thing. One's a game show. I think he's thinking of the 'documentary' type reality show.

The Gong Show wasn't 'reality' TV, was it?

  9. "sub-genre of reality" - oh god - and we were hoping it'd go away...

  10. He means the shows that literally document every day life. I watch a lot of them and I often think about what makes me even want to watch them. I know it's crap and not good for my soul, but like I used to eat fast food; I like the taste! I think it's the fact that they have money to spare most of the time and I don't really, so if you have money already, I can see thinking those shows are repellent.

  11. On a completely unrelated note; FUCK YOU LOS ANGELES FOR RAINING ON THE FIRST DAY OF A LONG WEEKEND...JERK!

  12. In my opinion, it is reality when the producers want to know your 'stories' ahead of the competition in order to evaluate whether you will enough of an audience draw. There are a lot of talented singers but ones with sob stories or drama make for good TV and press - like a kid needing a kidney transplant in the middle of the competition for example. I've worked on these singing shows and I've seen it first hand.

  13. I love some reality shows! Color me crazy:)

  14. The only reality show I watch is Ice loves Coco and I am not ashamed of it haha.

His new payphone song sucks too.

  15. @Elle, great point! If So You Think You Can Dance would just show dancing, I'd consider watching. But since I don't care about their backstories or their trials and tribulations while training, I don't watch because that nonsense takes up more time.

  16. Maroon 5 has been around for 10 years, I don't think his not liking reality shows is going to change the fact that people listen, like and buy his music. So don't count on him to go away anytime soon.

  17. Am I the only one to like Adam? He's sexy as hell, makes decent music, and he's single and enjoying himself.

  18. Adam and christina fued, cee-lo is a diva, fall AND spring seasons of The voice? This show is gonna fall apart, mark my words!

  19. I too hate all reality tv. I consider "Idol," & "The Voice" to be reality tv too (regular people trying to be stars...being filmed doing so). To me, if you want to be an actor (or just a star), there's still a way to do that outside of the reality tv realm.

It blows my mind how popular reality tv (still) is. I don't want to watch other people living their lives. I want to see actors displaying a talent. I also don't want to watch a bunch of fake drama that's whipped up to get me to stare at the train wreck.

The only thing I've ever watched was "Biggest Loser," and that was only for a minute 7 years ago. Was turned off by the reality aspect of it (people sniping, contestants tanking one week to do better the next week). As far as that show goes, I'd just have 50 people (or whatever) on the ranch for 6 months. The person who loses the greatest % of body fat wins. But people wouldn't watch that. Not enough drama.

  20. @RenoBlondee, I like him too, and for the same reasons, although I consider the attraction a guilty pleasure because he's such a womanizer, lol

  21. Reno and Angel, I wasn't even a big fan of Adam's until I started with The Voice. He seems very down to earth. Unlike that bitchy blonde on the show.

I watch most of this crap, but there's a big diff between a bunch of housewives airing their dirty laundry and a singer trying to have a career in the music industry.

Hey, did anybody see Giada and the rock musician contestant on the Food Network competition? I thought she was going to eat him.

  22. You know, I spent so much time hating and boycotting reality tv. Since the first episode of Survivor aired after the super bowl, I've avoided it. Then a couple summers ago I was too lazy to change the channel and watched an episode of Big Brother. Oh my god. I love that show. Now I've watched all the past episodes on youtube and I'm so excited for this summer's BB to start.
I also watch all the Teen Moms and 16 & Pregnants. My husband and I get a kick out of making fun of the girls and all their idiot decisions.

  23. @Califblondy- HAHAHA I just cant with Giada anymore! That's hilarious! I think it's either the camera angle and/or the fact she's SO thin her face and mouth are emphasized but whenever I see her on tv now ALL I can focus on is her mouth! Queen of the Blowjobs indeed ;)

Anita_Mark- co-sign EVERYTHING you said. When Moves like Jagger comes on I literally wince then crank it up! And Project Runway is like crack, like delicious crack

  24. Adam is very good at being a hypocrite. Maybe in his head it isn't reality television but it is. I know he is talking about the Kardashians and Teen Mom ilk. But he just has his head in his candy ass thinking he is better than them.

Oh, this is the same guy who bashed celebs on twitter for having celebrity perfume and then goes and to cash in has his own celebrity fragrance.

And i'm sure he just wants a girl with a good heart and mind to marry. Not a Victoria Secret model.

  25. I like Maroon 5, I think Adam Levine is sexy as hell, but I also think he's an arrogant douche. That being said, some reality tv is entertaining (I like Pawn Stars, Parking Wars, and sometimes Ghost Adventures) but I can't sit through five minutes of the Kardashians (vapid idiots) or any of the Real Housewives (pretentious vapid idiots).

  26. I'm sad Duck Dynasty's season is over.

  27. Adam thinks he's but above it all but ha-ha Adam, You are in a Reality show. And, it's all downhill from here.

Same as Judge Judy, America Idol, Teenage mothers, etc., etc.

  28. I hate reality TV as well, shows like American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, The Bachelor, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Jersey Shore, etc. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes or burn my eyes out that watch that! I think they have no good new ideas for TV so they do these low-budget lame-o reality shows. I'd rather watch nothing!

  29. The genre is called "competitive reality." He's a moron.

  30. Be nice to my boyfriend Enty ;)

  31. Does anyone remember any of these doozies? The Swan - God, that was the beginning of the end for women having any shot of a level playing field with men (in terms of how their looks are judged in the media). Or was it the culmination of a century of this stuff already being that way? How in the name of hell a competition, where women got plastic surgery to beat out other women to be the most beautiful plastic doll, EVER got greenlit is mind blowing!

  32. I like Adam in the 'shut up and take off your clothes, I'm not here to create a friendship' type of way. He regularly says stupid stuff, but he's a musician not a rocket scientist. I hate his tats, but he's still sexy in that dirty, naughty, snarky way of his.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep, it is absolutely reality tv, and Adam Levine is doorknob stupid and a hypocrite to boot.

I always hate myself when I don't hate his songs. If I could take a pill to cure my bad taste in music, I probably would (even though usually the fun crap I do like brings me a lot of joy.)
