9 Year Old Boy Gives Disney Trip To Soldier's Family
A 9 year old boy who lives in Massachusetts started a Facebook page where he traded up from a small toy soldier to an all expenses paid Disney vacation including airfare. The page, called Soldier For A Soldier was just started back in February. On memorial Day, Brendan Haas surprised the family of a soldier who had been killed in Afghanistan with the trip to Disney World. Wow. That is one impressive kid. When I was 9, I played with toy soldiers, but that was about as far as my thinking went.
Gives u hope for mankind. Army guy company shld flood him with toy soldiers! Great kid!!
ReplyDelete:) Damn allergies. *sniff*
ReplyDeleteGives me hope for the youth of this country when I read things like this. I'm with auntliddy - army guy company - give the kid a boxful of soldiers!
ReplyDeleteStuff that you can't make up :
ReplyDeleteThe soldier left behind a wife and a 2-year-old daughter named Liberty Hope.
PS:
The boy is from Kingston, MA and the soldier's family is from Duxbury.I used to know those towns well.

I love this story. I'm so ashamed to admit that I wondered if his parents really set this up. Gosh, when did I become so cynical?? I have a hard time fathoming a 9 year old coming up with this trading scheme, and this is from the aunt of a 9-year old niece who has the biggest heart around and creates care packages for homeless people. Either way, it's a lovely story and whether it is 100% his idea or whether his parents were a big part of it ultimately doesn't matter because it will make such a positive impact on the lives of everyone touched by his generosity. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteLovely and heartening. What a wonderful kid!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great story!
ReplyDelete@Carolyn They had an episode of Curious George about trading. He might have gotten the idea from that.
i think it's really dusty in here...
ReplyDeleteGreat kid! Puts the rest of us to shame.
ReplyDelete@ Elly, I had no idea. Thanks! And I should never discount the creativity of children. Their world has no limits.
ReplyDeleteThis kid gives me hope for mankind. What an awesome, selfless gesture.
ReplyDeleteWell, if the parents did come up with the idea, at least they credit the child and not trying to glorify themselves.
ReplyDeleteWhat Would Dina Lohan Do?
ReplyDelete@ Brenda, find some way to keep it for herself!
ReplyDeleteI live in this area, we also have those two kids who started out collecting and distributing food at Thanksgiving --and now it's this huge charity.
ReplyDeleteWe got some good kids around here! Well done, Brendan!

ReplyDeleteIt is very nice to hear about children doing for others! Agent **it, I am definitely going to read that article. Thanks for sharing. Massachusetts, home of the Patriots!
ReplyDeleteOf course when I read the full article it made me tear up. I've become such a softy since I had kids! Speaking of being an emotional mess, have you guys seen any of those Values, Foundation for a Better Life commercials? I always catch them when I'm at the gym, and those get me every time :'/ (Did I just make up my own emoticon? I only know how to make smiley faces)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, sensitive little soul.
ReplyDeleteI think the parents deserve some of the credit. I can't imagine most nine year olds who'd be willing to give up the trip so willingly. Maybe Disney will let him go anyway.
Sometimes I really like kids
