14 Year Old Gets Married On American Version Of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding
Tomorrow on My Bog Fat Gypsy Wedding they are featuring a 14 year old who is getting married in Georgia. Last time I checked, the legal age of marriage in Georgia is 16. Even in the UK version, they wait until they are 16 to comply with the law. Why get married if it is not even legal? Anyway, the family has the teen brainwashed. She says she feels empty inside unless she stays at home all day cleaning.
Jesus, she looks like a 20 something year old Vegas showgirl.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck is wrong with these people? I will pray for this child.
I think in Georgia you can be married at 14 with parent's permission.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is hands-down the ugliest dress I've ever seen.
Wow. Pink and ruffles. OUCH
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I coined this show "Jersey Shore: Homeless Edition"
ReplyDeleteBtw, where do they get the money for these extravagant custom dresses?
these are the gypsies in ga/sc that live a commune type existance, they get their money by conning people in to letting the do home repair or whatever, they dress their young girls like that and marry them young
ReplyDeleteFromwhat I undestand, the men make money with legit businesses. And I dont know which sadder, that dress or marrird at 14!!!!!! Her 'rents r nuts!!!
ReplyDeleteFrom my dealings with some of the gypsy families of the Mid-South, I can tell you that the girls mature quickly (like when they're 13 or 14) and as they grow older they some of the loveliest girls you've ever seen in your life...until they hit their late 20s, when they practically overnight start looking like Kate Murtagh...or Anna Ramsey...features coarsen, warts with hairs growing out of 'em start popping up like toadstools, eyebrows get thicker and grow into one...arm hair gets darker and coarser...it's frightening, truly frightening...
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the left?
ReplyDeleteUgh, they treat women like property and let the men run around like fools!! It makes me so mad!
ReplyDeleteIn NC the story we heard was you could drive over the border and get married in Fort Mill, SC at 14 without your parents permission. Whether that is true, I am unclear.
ReplyDeletePeople need to stop watching this trash. The end of reality tv could not come too soon for me. And yeah, that dress is all sorts of heinous.
I hate most reality tv, or at least, the stuff that makes people huge stars, like the Kardashians or Gosselins, etc (but I'm guilty of watching Jersey Shore) but I do love this kind of garbage. Unfortunately it's on during Mad Men and I refuse to get a pvr because I watch enough tv as it is.
ReplyDelete"Bog Fat Gypsy wedding" sounds like some kind of Deliverance style, backwoods inbred cannibalism. Maybe?
ReplyDeleteAh, Madame Magnolia, I too thought that I was listening to a whole bunch of Deena's talking and talking and twahking and twahking. It was horrible. The UK show is just atrocious, too -- it's like it was constructed in order to make people stop thinking of British people as civilized. Aargh. Horrible.
ReplyDeleteThis culture is so backwards. I've only seen the British version but some of the girl's stories were so sad.
ReplyDeleteThis is a culture that has values very different than most of mainstream America. Education is not particularly important as the men work primarily in skilled trades and the women do not typically work outside the home. There is a well-earned reputation of gaming the system. There are terrible stories of them bilking the elderly and weak. This is rarely touched upon in covering these Barbie on acid weddings.
ReplyDeleteWow that little girl looks like a prostitute!
ReplyDeleteI know that a lot of media outlets are reporting that this episode will have a 14 year old getting married but that is not the case. The show is probably not correcting these reports because it's good publicity and will get people to tune in. The episode is about a party that the girl's family is throwing in hopes that she will find her future husband among the boys in attendance. That garish pink dress is not a wedding dress, it is just her party dress and later on in the episode she changes into her "dancing outfit" of daisy duke shorts and a skimpy top. There is no marriage ceremony planned for the show and even if the girl ends up picking someone who she thinks can be her future husband, the wedding would not take place until at least a couple years later.
ReplyDeleteWell done, PhillyGirl...thanks for being the voice of reason here :)
ReplyDelete"The Internet: always reminding us that somewhere, someone is doing something we can be upset about..."
ReplyDeleteNice one Thomas.
ReplyDeleteI caught an episode of this show last weekend, and it was exactly that - very young girl having her 15th birthday party (hoping to meet a husband), then later in the ep, an "older" (using that term loosely) girl getting married. She was very, very nervous because she'd never even kissed a boy before. Their party dresses are awful, but the wedding dress wasn't THAT bad. But it made me sad, to see these girls growing up so fast, but without normal experiences. Like who gets married without at least having one kiss? Still can't turn it off though, I'm fascinated by this stuff...true reality TV.
ReplyDeleteIs that an unfortunately placed dark pink heart over her crotch, or did they mean to do that?
ReplyDeleteA lot of girls from well-to-do families used to marry without having kissed someone before.
ReplyDelete@tay..probably on purpose. Her dancing outfit had hearts on the middle of each breast and butt cheek. but, no...she did not get married. Her dad was quite interesting, to say the least. Kept saying things like "that dress makes me wish i was a cross dresser" and "my favorite place, the liquor store". He also paraded his daughter throughout town in that outfit and kept telling her she looked like a star...
ReplyDeleteShe didn't get married...that pic was from a Halloween party
