Your Turn
With as many television channels as there are with so many things to watch, I was wondering if any of you actually have taken the time to stop and total how many hours each week you watch television. I think I am about 20 which seems ridiculously high, but it really does not take that much to even get that amount. I figure 2 or 2.5 hours a day and that just about gets you to 20. How many hours a week do you watch?
I think I am at 30-35 but that is during a week with no re runs.
ReplyDeleteI watch about 20 hours a week as well. I've made Saturday a no tv/do something outdoors day. Helps to cushion the reality that I watch too much damn television.

ReplyDeleteI'm too scared to try and count...plus internet time...yikes
ReplyDeleteIck....just a quick calc I'd say around 30 hours a week. I may be multi tasking and reading blogs at the same time, but that is still a disgusting number.
ReplyDeleteI watch an inhuman amount of television. I fully believe it's inherited though (that's my excuse) because my dad is 78 and calls me in a panic if his cable is out or he can't figure out his remotes. TV's in every room and he watches Pimp my Ride and the Kartrashians (ick, I know).
ReplyDeleteMy mom is 75 and has her own Nintendo. Something about electronics has been bred into our genes.
I seem to have fallen out of the habit a few years ago (when "Deadwood" ended...). I watched an "On Demand" movie on HBO last month, but that's been it for the last six or seven months.
ReplyDeleteThe tv is always on but that doesn't mean I'm always watching. I'd say about 30 hours if actual viewing time.
ReplyDeleteThe Internet is a whole 'nother story.
I watch more than I'd like to admit, but in my defense, I'm usually multi-tasking and the tv is more background noise.
ReplyDeleteJudge Judy err day
ReplyDeleteIf I'm awake the TVs' are on
ReplyDeleteDepends on the time of year... right now, it's just 2 hours - Mad Men and Game of Thrones. However, I also watch Boardwalk Empire and a ton of football.
ReplyDeleteJust not that into TV anymore.
lol @ err day
ReplyDeleteI watch 30hrs per week, but I'm always multitasking. I come from a family of TV enthusiasts. So I blame it on them!
god, it's waaayyy too much to count. And that's not counting the 8-hour Law & Order Criminal Intent Marathon Saturdays. (I know the number would be higher if I didn't actually have to go to work at least a few days a week!)
ReplyDeleteI only watch from 8 pm to 11 so about 20 as well.
ReplyDeleteI watch about 10 hours a week (just about 2 hours a day sun thru thurs). I honestly thought it would be more...
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm thinking about it...maybe 20? That's not as much as I thought before I worked it out. But my computer just crashed, and that's how I usually watch, so it's probably going to wind down till I can afford a new computer.
ReplyDeleteI only watch 2 shows, plus the news.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch all kinds of TV, but not so much anymore. It's around 15 hrs/week now. Storage Wars, HGTV, and ESPNews, mostly.
ReplyDeleteI think your population is biased as this site self-selects the heavy TV watchers (myself included, I watch way more than any of my colleagues)
ReplyDeleteMostly Hulu & OnDemand now, I don't like to be a slave to programming schedules.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm only around 20, prefer to read and have become internet junkie.
I haven't owned a TV in two years, and the four years prior to that my only TV viewing was 24. I watch Mad Men on DVD, but other than that, there is little to nothing that interests me in the slightest about watching TV.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the season and what is on, of course, but I probably average about 15-20 hours as well.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm breathing, at least one TV is on in the house.
ReplyDeleteI watch about 20 hours, but a lot of those shows I half ass watch. Like Ringer, 90210, and Pretty Little Liars, I'll read the web or a book and kinda look u from time to time. If I think I missed something major (rarely happens) I'll rewind, and figure out what's going on. Now if you have to count the endless hours of Ancient Aliens, Pawn Stars, Swamp People, etc my husband subjects me to...
ReplyDeleteQuite a bit. I would be ashamed to calculate and report on it.
ReplyDeleteI dvr a lot of stuff. Do not necessarily watch all of it, just can't stand commercials. Had free Starz/Encore this weekend, so I dvr'd (sp?) a lot of movies. Will watch them over the week. I about in the 25 hours category I think.
ReplyDeleteI switch on the TV, kettle and laptop as soon as I get up. TV stays on all day......as background sound. I only watch a couple of shows totalling about 10 or so. But I know all the ruddy adverts! they’re on all the darn time.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, in the 80s, I always watched Sesame Street....it was the law in our house. Anyway, Grandpa was staying for a few weeks and I asked him to sit and wath the Street with me.......he was totally deaf and in his late eighties. As soon as he saw cookie monster he screamed! He thought it was a documentary about street kids in Puerto Rico and wanted my mother to write and tell the BBC to put proper programmes on Saturday mornings. Enty, please don’t ask about our PC habits......I actually have a USB port in my arm!
I watch between 50 to 75 hours. Mostly between 10 to 2 a.m. I love my seinfeld and friends reruns.
ReplyDeleteI should reprase this I watch about 25 hours Monday through Friday but have the tv on before that even though I don't really watch it.
DeleteNone! Haven't had cable/tv channels since 1995. I just watch dvd's (I have a LOT of movies)and pick and choose what tv shows to catch up on when they come out in box set form.
ReplyDeleteProbably averages to about 10. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but not much.
ReplyDeleteI watch between 3 and 4 hours a week of TV (Game of Thrones, Once Upon a Time, Big Bang Theory) but I will watch a movie from time to time too.
ReplyDeleteI watch MAYBE 10-12 hours. Blanc Debris Manor has no cable. Modern Family, Big Bang (if I remember)some Food Network and a whole lotta PBS although DSC has Frozen Planet running these days. Missed the past two weeks though.
ReplyDeleteI don't have satelite, so I only watch DVDs or streamed. Sometimes I don't turn on the TV for some month and then I have some marathons where whole box-sets are "devoured" in days.
ReplyDeleteBUT I do have a "little" internet problem....
Unless you count Backyardigans for the grands, 3. Now lets count internet hours.
ReplyDeleteprobably 30, but that's because we watch very little during the week, then consume entire series on the weekends. It's like watching really long movies. but as far as daily viewing, it's an hour and a half, tops.
ReplyDeleteI watch sports, news and politics, so it varies. During grand slam tennis season I could be glued to the TV. The only "entertainment" TV I see is "The Good Wife".
ReplyDeleteLike some others, my tv is on as background noise a lot of the day but I am usually doing something else--I probably really watch about 2 hrs a day most days.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's be on all day, and then for a few days not at all. I like it that way. Don't know how many hours.
ReplyDeleteZero to one hour. I really don't watch it. On occasion will tune into something, but I'm just not a TV watcher. Last year I got hooked on Biggest Loser, so watched that every week, but this year the contestants annoyed me so much I stopped after one episode.
ReplyDeleteI watch about 35 hours--but it could be more. I just always have the TV on, even when I'm doing other things. I love TV, and I always have since I was a little kid. That being said, I only watch about 8 of the channels I have available, and I'm quite loyal to only a handful of shows. I don't even know who half the people are who profiled on this site because they're not on shows I watch.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a TV watcher anymore so more or less an hour and half 5 days a week. The weekends even less than that.
ReplyDeleteDon't ask me how many hours a week I spend on the internet cause it's too much to count:/
I love Television. Dread to think how many hours. I do also exercise, read books & work, so it doesn't stop me from doing things. Happy to turn it off if nothing is on.
ReplyDeletewith my work schedule I don't get home until 9pm and don't like the morning tv so i would say 25-27. I usually keep the tv off on Sunday's unless it's on a music station. Internet? we are not even going to discuss LOL
ReplyDeleteI also always have it on in the background while I do other stuff. Probably an hour or two a day I pay closer attention, but I half-watch tv probably 6 hours a day.
ReplyDelete25-30. I multi-task for most of it.
ReplyDeleteI DVR everything so I know the number is probably higher than this, but least 20 a week, depending on my week.
ReplyDeleteThere are maybe 8-10 hours of programming per week I go out of my way to watch. Throw in another 6 or so during basketball season and maybe another 6 during football season.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to drop cable TV because 75% of what I watch is on over the air and most of the rest is accessible thru the internet {I have a second computer hooked up to my big screen}. So cable is about to go byebye.
I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia , so my TV is my lifeline. It takes my mind off my pain. Needless to say, I watch an ungodly amount of TV, but you gotta do what you gotta do!
