Today's Blind Items

#1 - This Academy Award winning actress who is an A+ lister apparently still believes in old flames. She has slept with her ex boyfriend a few times in the past year because she just can't get him out of her head. I wonder what her A+ list actor boyfriend would think of it.

#2 - This A+ list movie actor had a very unusual girlfriend for his first celebrity fling. She was probably a B+ list movie actress at the time and is now still a wacky B- with other interests. Our actor had never met her, but told the male producer he could not sleep with him to get a part back in the day because he had a girlfriend. Hers was the first one he came up with and had to stay with her until the producer finally gave up.

#3 - This A+ list Academy Award winning actress despises her husband's best friend. The best friend is also an A list actor. Turns out the actor hit on her while she was pregnant.

  2. I don't know why, but I thought:

    1) A-Jo

    2) Brad Pitt and Juliette Lewis

    3) A-Jo and Clooney

Only Lewis wasn't his first celebrity he dated, and is Cloomey into women and would A-Jo care?

  3. Are these all the same people/group?

    1. Angelina and Johnny what's his face for the ex
    2. Brad and Juliette
    3. George and Angelina

    ReplyDelete
  4. I can see all of theses guesses fitting, but who's the ex-BF AJ's sleeping with? I'm on cold meds so I can't think of it myself.

    ReplyDelete
  5. 1) hm angie is the only academy award winning A+ actress that has an A+ actor boyfriend as far as i can tell. but she and brad have been together so long, which ex-bf can angie not get out of her head? please don't say billy bob....

    2) i also thought brad and juliette lewis

    3) i also thought A-Jo and Clooney, except Angie and Brad are not married.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I cosign these guesses. But I thought Brad Pitt dated Robin Givens first. Maybe because he means first celebrity relationship once he was more famous?

    ReplyDelete
  7. It's not AJ and Johnny Lee Miller or Billy Bob for #1- she was married to both so they would be listed as ex-husbands.

    ReplyDelete
  8. #3 can't be Angie, Brad and George. First off...George is gay. 2nd, Brad and Angie aren't married. It says "husband".

    ReplyDelete
  9. I agree with all the posts, but I think Enty's using incorrect/vague terms on purpose.

    1. Jonny Lee Miller was Angelina's first husband. He is currently married with children, which is the sort of thing Enty would normally mention. Also, his wife is (was) famous -- Michelle Hicks was a big model in the 90s.

There have been rumors of them hooking up in the past.

    3. As everyone's noted, Brad and Angelina aren't married. However, I can't imagine Clooney hitting on Angelina. I almost want to say that that's wishful thinking on her part.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree about #1 not being Angie because they would be ex husbands...

I thought of Clooney and Kelly Preston for #2.

    Clooney and Angie for #3.

    ReplyDelete
  11. #3 doesn't say the husband is A-List too -- just the actress and her hubby's best friend.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Brad/Angie/Clooney can't be the answer to everything!

    ReplyDelete
  13. 3- Damon and Affleck

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree, Brangelina isnt likely the answer to all of these. That said, I would totally buy Brad/Juliette for 2, wacky b- with other interestsroom definitely fits.

Is there somewhere that has entys definitions for A/A+, etc? I am struggling to think of who could be!A+ actor /actress couple.

    ReplyDelete
  15. #1 can still be Angie. Those aren't the only two men she's ever slept with.
She had affairs with plenty of men including Colin Farrell, Timothy Hutton, Mick Jagger, and Ethan Hawke.

#3 cannot be her for the obvious reason that she's unmarried.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I keep thinking Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe for #3.
I know they had a thing way back, but he seems to be more Keith's friend than hers these days.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ooh, Nellie, good guess!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ooooo, Nellie I think you're on to something!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jennifer Garner has not won an academy award...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Regarding Affleck/Damon for #1, Jennifer Garner isnt an academy award winner is she? Seriously asking, I cant ever remember the awards.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think Brangelina is the new Affleck when it comes to answering blinds.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think we can fit Ben Affleck into all three of these! *L*

    ReplyDelete
  23. Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have both won best supporting actor/ actress awards- does this make them A or A+ list?

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Maja - I was just trying to work that out in my head! Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  25. For #3...

CZJ? She won for playing Velma Kelly. Michael Douglas could have plenty of sleazy friends.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Angie doesn't llike George but for a different reason. She resents his influence on Brad.

    ReplyDelete
  27. #3 Just to be different: Gwyneth Paltrow and Simon Pegg as the friend of Chris Martin?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I read every one of these as Angie Jo and Pitt-related, with a little Juliette Lewis and Clooney thrown in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The first two are vague enough they could be anybody.

#3 How many AA winners have a husband who's widely known BF is an A-lister? Brad/Angie-GC is about the only thing that fits, unless you go the route of NK-KU (but is KU's best friend really RC?) or say Rachel Weiz-DC and whoever DC's best buddy is.

    I'm going with Brad-Angie-Clooney.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think these CAN all be about the same people.
Perhaps Enty has decided to make Tuesdays "theme day", with all blinds featuring the same protagonist(s).

Of course, some of the details may have been altered, but the only thing I find it hard to believe is that Clooney would hit on A-Jo (pregnant or not) and if he did, that she would hold it against him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Maja - was that you? Are you the one who said "there's got to be some Affleck in there somewhere"? I can't remember who said that last year and it bugs me!

    ReplyDelete
  32. ha yeah i can see Angie hating Clooney more because he DIDN'T hit on her than bc he did.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No, Jennifer Garner hasn't won an Academy Award.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  35. One of these days Affleck will really fit for all three. Until now we can only dream...

    ReplyDelete
  36. I thought of Charlize and Stuart for #1.

Would Angie/Brad/Clooney fit for #3? They aren't married.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like the Russel Crowe/Nicole Kidmann guess for nr. 3. But obviously they all could be Brangelina BIs.
Also the Juliette Lewis guess seems quite good, I racked my brain for someone more fitting that discription but came up blank.
But as always there is also the chance that they are all made up. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have to say, I co-sign with the whole Brangelina theme. As far as the old flame thing goes, what about Timothy Hutton?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Juliette Lewis and Brad Pitt worked together on Kalifornia in 1992/93 and dated through 1995 when he was nominated for Twelve Monkeys. I don't think this is them.

    ReplyDelete
  40. #3 Afleck and Damon. Both wives were pregnant recently and a few times before. Are they A+?

    ReplyDelete
  41. @friffy, maybe it was the producer of Kalifornia who was hitting on Brad.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What about Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law for #3?

    ReplyDelete
  43. 2. "Our actor had never met her, but told the male producer..." When introducing a person in a piece for the first time use "a" rather than "the". I thought I missed something.

@August: Who would be the Oscar-winning actress here?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm on board with the Angelina, Brad, Billy Bob, Juliette, Clooney guess for these. I think Clooney swings both ways and isn't exclusively gay. I'm iffy on whether or not he actually hit on AJ - maybe she hit on him. The only thing that throws me off is the "husband" mention in #3, but perhaps that was the intention?

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ Jules_345 here is a real old post that Enty wrote about a-d list for actresses

    1/14/08

This weekend I gave a bunch of thought to the whole A list B list thing and how it really should be defined. In one post somewhere on the site is a way of defining A and B list television stars which makes everything cut and dry. Film though is so much more fluid. I know there are various definitions on this site and others, but what truly makes someone A list?

In my mind, A list is someone who can open a mainstream film all by themselves. When I say mainstream, I mean a film that opens in the 1000+ screen category. I think that is the one true measurement of whether someone is A list or not. The question should be, am I interested in going to see this movie because so and so is in it and I don't care what the movie is about. To me, there are many more male A listers than female A listers and to prove it, just go through any list of female or male actors in your mind and ask the question above. There are just not that many women who can open a film, or even given the opportunity to do so. Most people would say there are about 10 A list female stars. I say that is true, but that there are A list women within A list women.

In one of my blind items I called Kirsten Dunst A list because she was the female lead in several of the highest grossing films of all-time, and she has opened a mainstream film on her own. The problem is that when I stopped to think about it. Almost anyone could have played her role in Spiderman, so why should that give her A list status. Plus, Bring It On, was more of an ensemble film and she just happened to be top billed, but was she the reason everyone went to see the film? No, of course not. No one went "OMG, Kirsten Dunst has a new movie out, we have to go see it." Instead it went like this, "There is this really cool movie out right now and Kirsten Dunst is in it. We should go." There is a big difference.

So, then we get to my other beef with my own theory which is Sarah Michelle Gellar. I actually like SMG and she fits the criteria, except for one thing. Horror films should be excluded from the list. Most horror films have a female lead, but it is the story, not the actress that brings in the audience, and thus, although technically opening a film, they are not the reason the people are going to see the film. Yes, there are people who love SMG. I know this. But you have to be objective about it. I have also thrown Nicole Kidman into this mix now. The only film she has done which did well on its own with her name alone lately has been The Others which was a horror film. She is only making money because she is Tom Cruise's ex. She doesn't deserve A list status or money.

Here are the top ten highest paid actresses from 2007.

    1. Reese Witherspoon
    2. Angelina Jolie
    3. Cameron Diaz
    4. Nicole Kidman
    5. Renee Zellweger
    6. Sandra Bullock
    7. Julia Roberts
    8. Drew Barrymore
    9. Jodie Foster
    10. Halle Berry

If you have a franchise, then you are automatically A list, so Reese, Angelina, Renee, and Sandra automatically move on. (for now)

Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore have a franchise, but it is not on their own. Drew however is so A list it isn't even funny and can't believe she is only the 8th highest paid actress. She needs a new agent. Cameron Diaz is someone who will drop from the A list eventually, but people will go see a film solely based on whether she is in it. Julia Roberts is Julia Roberts and so will always be A list. Jodie Foster is in the same category as Cameron Diaz. The only difference is Jodie has been A list for much longer and has probably achieved A list status permanently. Halle Berry is almost there. If she had a franchise like Cameron does, she would be a shoe in. As it is though, she is right on the edge every year of A list B list.

    So now you know.

  46. I think Reese Witherspoon fits #3...her husband is an agent and many A listers including Mathew McC and RDJ were at their wedding...

  47. @EmEyeKay - No, I don't think that was me...*L*

  48. @MAC, interesting thoughts about A-List.

But shouldn't an Oscar also make an actress A-List, at least for a certain time? I mean obviously the bankability (I don't think this is a word) of a star should be considered. But name recognition and awards should also be taken in consideration. There are a lot more A-Lister in this case... and maybe the ones who open a movie are the A+?

Normal A-Listers (in my opinion as it is...) would be:

    Charlize Theron
Meryl Streep (she is A-List without a doubt!)
    Natalie Portman
    Hillary Swank
    Susan Sarandon
    Halle Berry
    Kate Winslet
Gwyneth Paltrow (I ignore her Goop-follies)
Helen Mirren (would you call the Queen B-List? No... you wouldn't!)
    Cate Blanchett
    Michelle Williams
    Rachel Weisz

And Jennifer Aniston may open movies but is she considered A-List? I don't want to snark on her but A-List?

One thing is for sure: Halle Berry might be A-List but she wouldn't be the one an ex would touch with a pole.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Uups, just saw this was from Enty about A-List and all... But in this case Halle Berry would be def. A-List as she is in the X-Men movies.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 1. Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend & Alexander Skarsgard

    2. Brad & Juliette

    ReplyDelete
  51. As unlikely as Clooney hitting on Angie seems, the fact that she was pregnant might make it more plausible. Some guys are really turned on by pregnant women.

    ReplyDelete
  52. George and Brad aren't really close friends. George admitted on a talk show a few years ago that he and Brad only see/talk to each other a couple of times per year. Although I also thought of those three for #3 I no longer believe it's them.

  54. A list means is you can open a movie on your name alone. It doesn't matter if you've won an oscar or not. You can drop from A list to C list having won an oscar in the past. Hilary Swank has won 2 oscars and can't (in my opinion) open a movie now-a-days. Tom Cruise never won an oscar and can open a movie with his name alone. Will Smith can too. B list means you can open a movie, as long as you have another B list actor to draw in the crowd along side their name.

#3 cannot be Brad and Ang. They are not married, and it specifically says "HUSBAND".

Also...Clooney is gay. He's not interested in Ang, pregnant or not. Brad's more his type.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 3 - Rachel weiz and Daniel Craig.
    Reese and Tim.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow, imagine being the name that first comes to Brad Pitt's mind.

    ReplyDelete
  57. #3 There is no way Angelina is A+ list but George is just A list. Everyone is fixated on Angelina, Brad, George, Halle etc. yawn....

A+ list Academy Award Actress: Jennifer Connelly
    Husband: Paul Bettany.
A list Husband's Best Friend: Stellan Skarsgard.

Paul named his first child after him. Maybe by the third pregnancy Skarsgard hit on JC ....

    ReplyDelete
  58. #2 is Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jennifer Connelly was never A+ and her box office clout has waned considerably. If she's A-list now it's just by a hair.

    ReplyDelete
  60. #2. Winona and Jonny?

    ReplyDelete
  61. For some reason I don't think this is A, B or C (angie, brad or clooney) but then I have no better answers. I think we always immediately think that but someone comes out with it and then we all fixate. Academy Award could be in best supporting. Why did someone think 2007? Just curious. Damnit I'm too lazy to look up. Just spouting off to get my name on the list here..Obviously I am of zero help. That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Does Danny Moder, Julia Roberts' husband, have an A list BFF? Because it doesn't say that the husband famous in #3.

    ReplyDelete
  63. EmEyeKay, not sure if you'll see this, but I did some google hunting and Brendalove was the one who said that.
