Ryan Seacrest Working For NBC During Olympics
For the past several days, NBC has been hyping what they called a major announcement about Ryan Seacrest. Many people assumed it would be something big like he was replacing Matt Lauer or that Ryan was changing his hair color or that Ryan and Simon Cowell were going to move in together in a reality version of The Odd Couple. Turns out none of that happened, but instead that Ryan is going to host some Olympic coverage for NBC at the Olympics. Yep, that is a three day announcement waiting to happen. NBC acts like Seacrest is the biggest star on the planet. The man is an incredibly hard worker and very good at what he does, but I'm not going to watch the Olympics more just because he is a part of it. Would anyone? Did someone see the news and go running around yelling, "OMG, OMG, Ryyyyyyan is hosting the Olympics on NBC." Then they realized it was Ryan Seacrest and not Ryan Gosling and said, "Oh. Meh."
He's so boring....
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why anyone would rely on him for Olympic coverage when his entire resume is based on covering pop culture's revolving door. I guess they hope the people who watch American Idol will follow him to watch the Olympics.
ReplyDeleteI really like Seacrest. He's about my age and I have a lot of respect for his work ethic.
ReplyDeleteHe also knows a shit ton of celebrity secrets (I can only assume) and says NOTHING which is why I suspect they trust him.
Might be "boring" but he's a good guy and I expect to grow old with him on my TV.
I watch the Olympics for the sports. When they start giving the back stories and some kind of manufactured drama on an athelete we change the channel till the actual event begins. They could show a lot more action without those stories.
ReplyDeleteThey announced the other day that Meredith Viera would also be apart of their olympic coverage.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the Olympics and will regardless of who is working coverage...but Seacrest is a weeee bit too cheesy for me. The talk of him doing the Today show was really surprising because I never pictured him doing something semi-serious...then again, the Today show isn't exactly hard-hitting news :-)
ReplyDeleteSOMEBODY out there likes him...
ReplyDeleteDon't care for him AT ALL. I found him mean spirited on American Idol.
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan if his per se, but the man completely excells in his fiield. I find the olympics a masturbatory exercise in corporate product placement. If they want to compete, go to third world country snd compete to build school or hospital. I have always found whole spectacle distasteful and inane. Anyway, I actually do think people will tune in because of him.
DeleteOhhhhh, Enty, I think you just had the best idea ever. I would watch EVERY second of the Olympics if Ryan Gosling hosted them!
ReplyDelete"Dunkleman Out"
ReplyDeleteThe Today Show is rapidly going downhill. First, Palin. Then, the anticlimactic Seacrest crap. Tomorrow, Octomom.
ReplyDeleteAre they trying to force viewers to switch to GMA?
I'm with @Hunter
ReplyDeleteRyan is not mean spirited or a bad guy. He is a very good guy. All the ex Idol kids rave about how much he took care of them and helped them. I like him alot.
Hunter and Reno - well I just hated the way he'd drag out the announcements. Maybe he was told to do that? But it was milked for far too long. Anyway, I just find him boring.
ReplyDeleteThat's OK, we don't have to like the same people! I do admit he's very hard working, but I find him smarmy instead of charming.
I would infinitely rather see Ryan hosting some of it than have to listen to Bob Costas drone on and on.
ReplyDeleteKatie used to be perky enough to kind of balance out Bob for some of the big ceremonies but lately when Matt is doing it --the show goes on and on and on....Ryan is a decent host and moves things along. Not sure how he'll blend with the sports guys but I think he will be better than Matt has been. I think he's pretty professional and will be super prepared--and will be good at some of the behind the scenes stuff they do on NBC.
@msgirl
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree! There's something for everybody. :)
I like him. He's a bouncy little dude. He drags shit out on Idol because he's told to. Even when he kisses ass, he still doesn't bother me.
ReplyDeleteHe may be an alien sent to Earth to charm us into submission. Oh well, it's working on me.
This is a smart move by NBC. With all the rumors of him eventually replacing Matt Lauer on Today, this is a good way for them to see how he does with the audiences. Whenever possible, try it before you buy it!
ReplyDeleteI hope he does it from the US
ReplyDeleteIf he replaces Matt Lauer I'm unsubscribing my Today show podcast!!!!
If Ryan Gosling hosted the Olympics on TV, I might develop a sudden interest in sports...*L*
ReplyDeleteOh, I like this...I think he does a good job on Idol with the material hes given. Plus, the Olympics coverage cant get much worse at this point.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL
ReplyDeleteI can't stand the guy. IMO, he's a vain little midget who brought us the Kardashians (thanks for that, btw). Yeah, he works hard in his field(s). He wears a lot of hats. He's mini-D(ick Clark). Just not a fan. I've never watched Idol. I've only seen him in passing on E! But he's like Paris used to be, he's everywhere (unavoidable). So I have had some exposure to his work.
ReplyDeleteI've never liked people who have their hands in everything. To me, there's a difference between hard work and having your hands in everything/greed. I grew up with people like that. They were always trying some new scheme, trying to sell something, having a 5th job. It's annoying.
THIS...IS A MEEEER I CAN BOBSLEDDING!!!
ReplyDeletehow is he talented? he comments on what other people do. he doesn't DO anything himself. i prefer olympic coverage be done by those who were past competitors. what could he possibly bring to the commentary?
ReplyDeleteI like Seacrest. I like the Olympics. I did not like how the Today Show created a bunch of hype over nothing.
ReplyDeleteSo they got Fakey McFakerson to host the Olympics. STUPID!
ReplyDeleteThey should get an athlete not a suit with fake teeth and a $300 haircut.
I know the rumors on him but why do they keep giving him jobs that more qualified people should have??
@Me, isn't that what commentators and hosts are supposed to do?
ReplyDeleteI can take or leave Ryan but I do think he is a hard worker and professional.
"Ryan and Simon Cowell were going to move in together in a reality version of The Odd Couple."
ReplyDeleteI would watch the hell out of that show.
Ryan is a great host. I think this will be good for the Olympics.
I would prefer to have intelligent athletes comment on the Olympics. I'm on the Seacrest is too cheesy/smarmy train. I love the Olympics and hope he doesn't ruin the experience.

ReplyDelete^^yes, it is what they all do. but ryan is just a distraction. he's not background anymore because he's everywhere. he can't BE the story AND report it. i don't want to hear how ryan experiences the olympics. i want to hear how the athletes experience it. but i cannot stand him, so maybe i'm not able to judge on this.
ReplyDeleteOh this will be a disaster...and I will watch. Every Olympics gets dumbed down even more so this is apropos.
