Out Magazine Names Anderson Cooper To Gay Power List
It's interesting that Anderson Cooper was named to Out Magazine's Top 50 most powerful gay people in America when he has never actually confirmed that he is gay. Sure, I think it is pretty much an open secret, but there are lots of people who don't know that secret. Plus, can you really be on of the top 50 gay people in America if you have never confirmed you are gay? What if Anderson tells Out that he is straight? To be a powerful gay person, doesn't everyone have to know you are gay?
Um, who are the others besides Cooper, Ellen and Neil?
ReplyDeleteIf he's not out, this is really not cool. Wouldn't his publicist have something to do with this? Maybe he is out.
ReplyDeleteThere are some other people on there who are not absolutely out.
ReplyDeleteBarry Diller -- married to DVF, long assume to be gay
Matt Drudge -- closet case
He won't confirm it b/c one's sexual orientation shouldn't matter. Doesn't mean he actively tries to hide it.
ReplyDeleteBarry Diller? No clue! Shepherd Smith from Fox - came out?!? Matt Drudge of the drudge report - another shocker!! But Harvey Levin from TMZ and People's Court?!? Am I the only one who was clueless here?!?
ReplyDeleteThey make gay jokes about Harvey on TMZ (TV) all the time.
ReplyDeleteIm more shocked that Harvey is 61! Wow, he looks good.
ReplyDeleteThe woman next to NPH is Annise Parker - mayor of Houston, Texas. She is a badass.
ReplyDeleteI can see Marc Jacobs and Christine Quinn there - Quinn may be the next mayor of New York City.
ReplyDeletethere is a publicist somewhere in new york either getting really yelled at, or signing the courier receipt on a big ol' batch of flowers.
ReplyDeleteSome of those sort of surprised me. Tim Cook? Harvey Levin? Who knew? But Anderson Cooper is right. It shouldn't matter. And it doesn't matter to me.
ReplyDeleteThe next feature in Out is "The Glass Closet, Revisited" -- tagline "We all know which stars are in the glass closet. So why won't they come out?" And Anderson Cooper is included in the picture. It's called Out. I remember the Queer Nation days when it launched and the outings at the time -- I just don't recall if the magazine itself spearheaded some of that.
ReplyDeleteAnd then Mario Lavandeira aka Perez got involved in outing people. That was so ugly.
DeleteI read the next article and was shocked that they are giving Matt Bomer crap. He is out, but doesn't feel the need to make every interview about his husband and children. If straight people don't have to, why should gay people have to parade their families?!?
They also gave Jim Parsons crap about being in the closet - since when has he been in the closet? He is just another that tends to let his work speak for itself, and I have enjoyed
Him since he was on Judging Amy.
I am glad that I am straight. The pressure of being gay is horrible! You have the people
pushing you back in the closet on one side (hopefully this is getting easier) and then you have the gay community pushing you out and no one satisfied w/just letting you live your life.
it is none of my business....no one asks me if I am gay or straight- why should I care? I DO care if you take care of your children- but do not care what your sexuality is- its personal and has nothing to do with your ability to be kind, to love or to do the dishes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
Susie Orman? Am I the only one that did not know that ?

ReplyDeletePerez Fucking Hilton??? Gag me with a pitchfork.
ReplyDeleteEDW, I was shocked about Harvey's age, til I thought about when People's Court first started w/Judge Wapner, RIP! Glad I am not the only one who is a bit shocked w/some of these names. It isn't that they are gay, but due to their high profile, kinda shocked this is the first time I am reading this. However the recent blinds and purported reveals are what is truly shocking and in their case - disgusting!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is his way of coming out. If not, I think this is b.s. It doesn't matter that he is gay, but he also deserves to come out on his own terms.
ReplyDeleteSomeday, saying "OMG, didn't know he/she was gay" will be as silly as saying "OMG, didn't know his/her hair was not naturally blonde".
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for that day! :)
If Anderson has refused to comment on it for his reasons (and I agree with and support this), they should respect that decision and leave him out of this article.
ReplyDeleteSuzi Orman came out a few years ago. She to Oprah she's never even touched a penis

ReplyDeleteKen Mehlman is my favorite on the list. He used to be the head of the Republican National Committee. He came out about a year ago...none of the extreme right wingers want to talk about it.
ReplyDelete@snowstorms Harvey is totally long-time out, I don't think he was ever in.
ReplyDeleteWow! Never knew, not that it matters, but it still makes me chuckle...lol
DeleteFrom what I understand, Anderson lives a completely out lifestyle but just doesn't bother discussing it. Heck, he lives with a guy who owns a gay bar! How much more out can you be? Personally I don't see him being obliged to do the Kneepads cover or discussing it with anyone. You don't see other TV hosts announcing stuff about their sex lives.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know... are Bryan Lourd and Kevin Huvane a couple or simply business partners. Not that it matters, I'm just curious. Huvane's brother is a BIG time publicist.
ReplyDeleteShepard Smith has never come out.
ReplyDeleteAlec Baldwin outed Harvey Levin on The View after TMZ broke the "little pig voicemail".
ReplyDeleteUnless a person comes forward Out magazine should leave them off the list. Anderson Cooper just wants to be newsperson not a "Gay Newsperson" sexuality should not define a person becuase they are gay or straight. Just be a good person.
Outing is never cool. However, Out MAY very well have mentioned that they were publishing it and Anderson went , "meh".
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised how many out people some of us here were unaware of like Suze Orman and Harvey Levin. Although the Barry Diller one surprised me too. Guess I'm not curshing anyone when I tell you that Cat Cora is also gay?

ReplyDeleteIn what world is Dan Savage less powerful than Jenna Lyons? I would have put this list together a lot differently. How is Barney Frank so far down?

ReplyDeleteAgree with everyone who says they shouldn't out people. It's their business, for someone like Cooper ( who I think is very hot!) they want to be just known as themselves, not their sexual orientation. It's things like this that make it even more difficult for stars to come out - because it becomes about their sexual choices and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair to Alec Baldwin it was an open secret that Levin was gay, and according to alec when tmz broke the little pig voicemail he said he felt like killing himself , so i thought he did it because he was angry at levin,
ReplyDeleteAnderson Cooper it is said told people the reason he doesnt announce he is gay is because he reports in homophobic countries and could be targeted, but he doesnt hide it, each year i watched his new years countdown waiting on Kathy griff to out him , but she never does
Anderson may not have gone the "Yup I'm Gay!" route that Ellen did, but he is hardly closeted. He is "out" the way I am: family and friends know and people who ask at work know. Strangers don't know because they are strangers and don't know me.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to chime in with gadfly. Annisse Parker is a total badass.
ReplyDeleteRemember Harvey Levin's bleach-blond doctor boytoy? That was like a hundred years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy sexuality is never questioned, I can't imagine how annoying it would be if I had to declare myself a straight woman, as if it were important to anyone else.
ReplyDeleteExactly hmmm. My only beef is when closeted gays vote against gay rights to fit in. That is so hypocritical. Just as bad as a church leader preaching the sanctity of marriage and having multiple affairs. You've opened yourself up for exposure.
ReplyDeleteHarvey Levin was indeed an "open secret," up until about a year or two ago, when he "came out" on the show. He's been in a relationship for decades. I was so proud of him when he started joking about it with the staffers. With a show that's on every day like that, I think it makes a big difference. Yes, it shouldn't matter, but right now it does matter, and as much as anyone has the right to keep their personal life private, being open and talking about it is a big boost to mainstream acceptance.
ReplyDeleteI do feel that people should not be outed if they dont want to be. Its just always good when a gay public figure is out and proud!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love my AC! I love me a silver fox, gay or straight. Whenever I profess my love for him my gay friends always be sure to tell me he is on their team. Ya I know, just a funny, gorg man to me. AND it makes total sense that he is reporting in foreign dangerous places where it is against the law to be gay so he should keep it private to secure out national treasure!
ReplyDeleteMatt Drudge? Seriously? Had no clue.
ReplyDeleteDrudge outed himself on one of the gossip newsgroups before he became famous. And his sexual tastes were pretty extreme.
