The Olsen Twins Make Time's Top 100 Fashion Icons Of All-Time
Yes, you read the headline right. In the entire history of the earth, Time Magazine has named the 100 most influential people in fashion. This is a list that includes Coco Chanel and Christian Dior. Miuccia Prada is on the list too. So, of course when you think of those exalted names in fashion the next breath out of your mouth is going to be the Olsen Twins. I have always said they know what they are doing in fashion as long as they are selling it and not wearing it, but the problem is they do wear it and look tragic most of the time while doing so. It is great that Elizabeth & James does so well, but its hard to think of them as influencing fashion when their own style sucks so bad. I call it homeless vagabond with way too much money to care. Not on the list were designers like Donna Karan and Roberto Cavalli.
Doesn't the twin on the right look odd? Like a plastic surgery/filler kind of odd?
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Michael K yet today, but I'm sure he'll mention that this is one of the signs of the Apocalypse. This is a leftover April Fool's joke, right?
ReplyDeleteDex, yes, MK looks like a plastic surgery project gone awry.
ReplyDeleteAshley looks like she is standing behind a fur box.
They look like ghouls.
ReplyDeleteThese bitches instead of Donna Karan?
ReplyDeleteSeriously?!
I'll never understand why anyone under 40 or even 50 gets botoxed or a face lift. It does not look good! Sadly, a lot of the younger gals and even guys in H'Wood are getting work done at a very young age. That is really messed up.
ReplyDeleteThey look like Troll dolls.
ReplyDeleteDid they pay someone at Time Magazine off? 'Cause for them to get this honor is just stoopid.
People forget how influential Donna Karan was a few years back. When I graduated from college and got my first job teaching, work clothes were fussy and this was before business casual. I was expected to wear a dress, low heeled pumps, and neutral hose (1988) Donna Karan introduced basic separates based around essentials in black with colorful accent pieces. It was simple, sophisticated and attractive.
ReplyDeletethey dress like hobos most of the time! wtf?
ReplyDeleteSadly, they are under so much mind control programming that the real Olsen twins no longer exist....just look into their eyes. Pray for them...I don't think they asked for that.
ReplyDeleteNow while I think they dress like crap, I do love their Elizabeth & James line...
ReplyDeleteAlso Donna Karan gave Robert Lee Morris his big break using his jewelry as accessories to her clothes..
Prune.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't put Donna Karan or Roberto Cavalli on that list.
ReplyDeleteCavalli is tacky
The fuck??!?
ReplyDeleteWhat trends have these two set? The emaciated homeless layered sack look?
I hope Madonna is on the list. The bitch irks the living daylights out of me, but you can't deny she set a bazillion fashion trends in the 80s.
I think it's the angle and the way she's pursing her lips. But really, these two were UGLY babies, and while I think they're attractive enough, they don't exactly light my fire.
ReplyDeleteNever understood why they were so popular on that show (I only saw it a couple of times). They looked like claymation gone wrong.
Lolol- claymation gone wrong.
DeleteGot to say their parents really handled the money well...the whole family is set for more than one lifetime.
ReplyDeleteThis end is nigh. These two have the style of your average Detroit bag lady, the posture of your 90 year-old Great Aunt Edna, and the grooming skills of a meth addict. Plus I can't stand how they ALWAYS have duckfaces, and perpetually stand as if their pelvises were welded together. They are bizarre.
ReplyDeleteTo play the contrarian... I do not think their faces are all that cute, but I do think they have been hugely influential in terms of style-- both thru their upscale stuff (E&J, some other line I can't remember) and well as all the tween stuff. And I also disagree that their personal style has not been influential. These girls were wearing leggings/super skinny jeans, platform heels, carrying bags the size of luggage, and rocking flowy tops/dresses years before they ALL became things that everyone wears-- that makes them people who are leaders not followers in terms of setting trends. Not saying everything they wear is awesome, there are a lot of misses and I don't dig their crazy rocking of fur, but overall I honestly think they do deserve to be on the list.
ReplyDeleteI also don't think they are under any kind of mind control programming... I think they use a lot of drugs!
Roberto Cavalli is like a cheap knock-off imitation of Gucci just way trashier- not original, cannot see why he deserves a place.
I do disagree with omitting Donna Karan as a previous poster pointed out.
It doesn't matter what they wear themselves, it's all about what they design. How many designers have their own uniforms? Michael Kors' black shirt I think black pants or jeans every single day he even explained it on Project Runway, Karl Lagerfeld, Vera Wang jokes about how her basic black wardrobe compared to her lines. The Row and Elizabeth and James are trend setting lines.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what they've ever done for fashion. If Wednesday Adams had cousins, they would look like the Olsen twins. They're like, if Dorothy landed in Oz and discovered the munchkins were emo.
ReplyDeletethis is a gossip blog, not a fashion blog. for educated sartorial opinions, i will typically look elsewhere. thanks for trying enty.
ReplyDeleteGene Loves Jezebel never seem to age..they look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOh wait, it's not the twins from the band. Oh ok, sorry.

ReplyDeleteThe Olsen twins always look like walking skeletons to me.
ReplyDeleteThey used to design a lot of children's clothes, don't know if they still do or not.
ReplyDeleteAshley looks like she's drugged out or something. Maybe a hit of Marajuana with those red, squinty eyes. Mary Kate looks a little spacey too.
ReplyDeleteThis was in the Bizarro universe Time Magazine where Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie are "Fashion Stars" right?
ReplyDeleteMary Kate is quite lovely, I think. This is a classic case of do as I say, not as I do. I love their Elizabeth and James pieces, but these two constantly look like they're wearing oversized, homeless sacks.
ReplyDeleteThe Olsen Twins continue to look like this to me whenever I see them:

That is all~
I dont get the appeal of these bug- eyed twins, I never did. Lousy actresses too. I have seen how they dress- incidentally, how we dressed in 60's- nohing new there- and their clothes, and not impressed in the least. Hope stella mccartney not on list , her clothes blow too.
ReplyDeleteARGH. Not the Duckface Troll Twins. Geesh. Their sister is FAR more attractive, even with whatever is going on with her nose.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Cavalli IS tacky.
ReplyDeleteBergdorf's carries Elizabeth & James, but I didn't care for any of their pieces. Maybe I need to take another look . . .
Ashley and Mary-Kate made appearances on Letterman, separately - Ashley was soooo boring, while MK was very shy, endearing and has a nice voice.
I absolutely love Mary-Kate, and I would lay down my life to defend her. I would prefer pushing someone else in front of the train, though. Ashley, I could take or leave.
ReplyDeleteExactly what Izahart and katsm said...Was going to say those words verbatim. :)
ReplyDeleteI kind of love them. They oftentimes get their own clothes so very wrong, but they HAVE set trends. You know leather leggings and platform pumps? They were wearing them years before every third person on the planet did.
Love me some Mary Kate :) I think they're amazing and were even cute as babies. I also think they had more personality as children :(
ReplyDeleteyes because early onset osteoporosis is so very sexy. Let's check back in about 10 years. Let's see how attractive starvation is about aged 40.How old are these two now anyway?
ReplyDeleteFashion icons for the jaundiced, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteHate them. It's Time magazine, not WWD so take this with a grain of salt. Coffin chic.
