Mike Wallace Has Died
CBS newsman Mike Wallace, the dogged, merciless reporter and interviewer who took on politicians, celebrities and other public figures in a 60-year career highlighted by the on-air confrontations that helped make "60 Minutes" the most successful primetime television news program ever, has died. He was 93.
RIP Mike. I enjoyed watching your interviews. We have lost yet another great journalist.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mr Wallace, for a Sunday night tradition while growing up.
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace.
I always heard he was a huge dick, esp to women, using the c`word. Never watched the show, never cared for him. still sorry he's dead if i makes anyone sad.
ReplyDeleteOh noes! @auntliddy! I was just looking at Mr. Wallace's picture and thinking "Well at least Mike Wallace is ok. I am not going to read something in a Himmmm post about him."
ReplyDeleteMaybe we could have "This is a Regular Guy" posts, or "This Guy Wears His Wife's Panties, But He is the Salt of the Earth" posts.
Bless him
ReplyDeleteAlthough 93 is a Looooooooooooooooong life, this still makes me so sad!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mike, for being you. xo
Wow, he had a great run, a great life...
ReplyDeleteRIP Mikey!
ReplyDeleteWell, the 'Grim Reaper' fellow
ReplyDeleteon Family Guy can take a rest now.
He was on constant watch.
He was one tough guy. He did some great work over his long life.
ReplyDeleteHe never compromised for his work. He did not "soften" the questions or kiss any ass-political or celebrity. There are many journalists out there today that need to be like Mike.
ReplyDeleteRest in Peace. After 93 years, you deserve it.
Great obit @ The NY Times. I grew up watching 60 Minutes. Awesome journalist. For those who only knew of him but not about him, it's worth a look...he was a human being also.
ReplyDeleteRIP Mr. Wallace.
ReplyDeleteThere is a real need for his type of
fearless reporting.
Are there ANY real reporters left? RIP.
ReplyDeleteThe guy had the cojones to give Barbra Streisand a hard time about being in therapy for 30 years (video on TMZ) so, if for that alone, I salute him. Like others have said, we need reporters not blinded by celebrity and unafraid to probe for answers when they're needed. The last of a dying breed. RIP.
ReplyDeleteVery sad to see him go but he lived a long, rich and productive life. I also grew up watching 60 Minutes on Sundays and remember many of his tough interviews. I also respect his honesty with regard to his struggle with depression--he did a lot for people who live with it.
ReplyDeleteRIP, a dying breed of journalists
ReplyDeleteRIP
ReplyDeleteThe only person I can recall Mike Wallace ever walked on eggs with was Edward Bennett Williams (legendary D.C. attorney). Williams could strike fear into the heart of almost anyone.
ReplyDeleteAs was often said, "The scariest words in the English language are 'Mike Wallace is here to see you.'"
He was an actual journalist! I don't think we have those anymore. My fave interview was the one he did with Babs where she cried. He called her out on directing herself and her ego.
ReplyDeleteI always thought he would die doing an interview.
I remember him doing interviews in the late 80s or early 90s about depression and suicide awareness. He suffered depression himself and wanted people to know that there's hope in darkness.
ReplyDeleteA real journalist. So rare these days. RIP.
ReplyDeleteThat ticking stopwatch marked the official END of my weekends as a child. That ticking stopwatch made an old southern woman feel like an intellectual simply by watching the show. Tons of warm, fuzzy memories connected to that to that ticking stopwatch.
ReplyDeleteGODSPEED Mike......
