Madonna Does Not Like Surprise Parties

Madonna's album went to number one and her manager, Guy Oseary decided to throw a little surprise party for her to celebrate. If you watch the minute long video you will see how Madonna looks angry. Like angry as in someone gave her hydrangeas angry. Then she sees the camera and her face lights up and she does a little dance. Then she cuts the cake and smashes it into Guy's face. She tries to make it look a like a thank you or a joke, but she did not smile once the entire time.

  3. My whole opinion of Madonna has taken a nosedive ever since the hydrangea incident. I guess she has always acted full of herself, but it didn't bother me before because she had such effortless confidence. Now she seems like she is trying to desperately hang on to fame and it makes her come across like a Norma Desmond.

  4. Of course she hates surprises, she's not in control .

  5. She's probably just pissed they caught her before she'd had a chance to steal the blood of children to make her appear more youthful for the day.

  6. I haven't liked her for years, but this was actually a glimpse of the old Madonna that used to be fun.

  7. She is such a nasty piece of work. Always has been.

  8. I used to love and admire her so much. Sigh.........:(

  9. what.a.bitch. so condescending. hope Gaga never gets as shriveled up and bitter as Madge.

  10. I'm SO HAPPY that I've never spent one cent on anything Madonna-related.

  11. Her album went to #1?!

I used to be a huge fan and supporter of her, but now I wish she would just go away. There is nothing sadder to me than an older woman who pretends like they are a teenager.

  12. idk, she seemed to smile a decent amount to me. I don't think she was 100% pleased, but surprise parties are really about other people, being grateful for their support and initiative, etc. You don't have time to think about you for a while after it starts.

  13. Holy shit, a Navy jet just crashed into apartments about 20 mins from my house. Hol-ly fuck. Turn on CNN.

  14. She's just so incredibly humorless.

  15. Dixie just saw it on twitter, how scary.

  16. I've never spent a single cent on anything she's ever made/done/appeared in. I've never been able to stand her. A few years ago a friend of mine was invited to a dinner party in NY and she was another guest. He had no idea she would be there and was surprised to say the least. Even more surprised to find himself sitting near her at the table. He was a bit stumped as for topics of conversation with her, but he said it turned out not to be a problem as she did all of the talking all night. Unfortunately, it was nothing but half-baked ideas and poorly (if at all) thought out opinions on topics she couldn't begin to comprehend. My friend has a Cal Tech Ph.D in electrical engineering and is also a graduate of Stanford law school, so he's not short on smarts. He said it was one of the most tiresome and unenjoyable evenings he's ever endured, and he's a normally a great sport about most everything.

  17. I interpreted it differently. She didn't really seem that pissed off to me.

What was in that pill bottle?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Didn't seem mad to me. She seemed to wonder why it was happening, and someone explained to her that her album was number 1. She seemed aware of the camera the whole time.

  19. OMG Dixie, that's awful!

  20. I saw her smile a time or two as well.
I dont get all the madonna hate- we have a limited supply of strong-ass take charge women in the celeb world and she's one of them.

Cutting her down to size by saying she's too old for this or that look or music, and calling her an overly controlling bitch or cunt is just another way to justify people feeling uncomfortable seeing a woman who unashamedly assumes a traditionally male role and personality in terms of ambition, dominance, and power.

    ReplyDelete
  21. She needs to get over herself. She's still in the business, still making music/touring AND can still reach #1 - Madonna, stop being an affected hag, enjoy yourself and be nice to the people who work their asses off for you.

Oh yeah, and lose that fucking fake accent. It makes you sound like a twat.

So sorry, Dixie. What a horrible thing to happen.

  22. What a miserable c-word.

  23. @Jasmine - I don't think anyone (or most people, at least) has a problem with a strong ambitious woman.

Madonna has earned her rep - she has never, ever been known to be kind or thoughtful. The exact opposite - she is known to be downright cruel at times, even to those in her closest circles. None of her former friends have a nice thing to say about her. And it has nothing to do with jealousy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. He should know her better than that..

    ReplyDelete
  25. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. A bit awkward, but not horrendous. She did appear to be putting on a little.

  26. Pilot ejected on that horrible Navy crash. I hope no one on the ground was injured. I saw some footage of the wreckage; looks as though it went right into an apartment complex.

On a better topic, Happy Easter/Passover everyone.

  27. Thanks Reese, you too. And happy holidays to everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @Dixie - crap! Checking CNN right now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I ALWAYS admired her because she was such a strong and take charge, kick ass woman. But she's just become such a condescending asshole to people. I'd say the same about a male super star too.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks @Reese, happy holidays to you & everyone else.

  31. ^thank you as well @nola. Crazy stuff.

  32. I used to be a Madonna fan. Increasingly, I just find her humorless and vane. I like to compare her to Cher. Whereas Cher seems to have always been in on the joke when people have made fun of her and her career, Madonna is above it all. She takes herself far too seriously.

That said, she just didn't seem to know what was happening here. I would venture to guess that she doesn't like surprises and prefers to be in control, but this didn't seem overtly (or overly) bitchy on her part.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with everyone. Yes, she's annoying and fake and as shallow as the veneer on a bowl of custard left out in the sun (and the custard has more personality than she does). On the other hand, she was once a notable pop star, and in spite of her humorlessness and joylessness, she was okay in that role. It's not like she's gonna find a new career making films or doing anything else, so we should all just politely let her put out her little records, shall we?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Madonna has hated herself since before she was even famous. Oprah once said just sitting near Madonna made her uncomfortable because the woman is soo unhappy, with everything. So many talented and precious people fall by the wayside, but people like Madonna just keep sailing forward. Norma Desmond, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. For people who want to pretend she's enjoying herself in a dignified manner, I would suggest that the ANGRILY FLINGING CAKE into her manager's face kind of argues against that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I used to love Madonna so, so much in the 80's when I was growing up. I went to see all of her movies, bought all of her albums and just adored her in general. The more I read about her antics these days just erodes those nice memories of childhood and my love for her. I wish she wasn't such an insufferable, pretentious bitch. It really kind of ruins her for me.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dixie..I saw it on the news as well. any loss of life in the apt. bldg? Wonder how many people may have had pets left at home. Sad sad sad.

Yeah..what's up with the pill bottle? She didn't look pissed until she smashed the cake into his face and then she looked righteously pissed.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Barton - thank you. It's mighty obvious she's unhappy about the whole thing.

    Hi @Sherry! xoxo

  39. Hey Emmy! Where's the picture? You should use it as your avatar. Them cupcakes is making hongray.

  40. NEVER liked her. I could tell as a small child in the early 80s that she was trash through and through and I never bought a single album, nor did I try to look like her as so many of my friends did. She's done nothing in the years since to prove me wrong, either. Arrogant, rude, condescending, not-even-very-talented-in-either-music-or-movies fame whore...that's all she is to me.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Exactly Barton! If I were her manager, I probably would've flung a piece right back at her! He must have been so pissed. He goes to the trouble to plan this little party, is dressed nicely, and she shows her appreciation by shmushing a piece of cake in his face.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Totally an unhappy person, doesnt enjoy anything, always looking ahead.
Is she still tight with Rosie Odonnell? Now theres a pair!

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Sherry - was thinking about it!

I'm shooting it soon, trying to drag my lazy rear off the chair to get the stuff set up. Have to shoot 20+ pieces (have been busy). There goes my Friday...

  44. I used to work in the music business early 80s, and she was notorious for sleeping with every penis that could help her. She broke many R&D's hearts. Never liked her since. TO use a defense that she's an ambitious woman so we should admire her is wrong on so many levels. There are many ambitious women that I respect, because they still have a heart. Madonna has never had one.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I dont like her, never have but she looks more uncomfortable here than angry. The camera does seem to perk her up though doesnt it. I like the way shes teetering on her shoes...lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. Beth, the other difference between her and Cher is that Cher has done some solid acting work over the years. Madonna couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

    ReplyDelete
  47. "I used to work in the music business early 80s, and she was notorious for sleeping with every penis that could help her" Yep, I can confirm that! As soon as one who was more famous popped up, she'd ditch the last one. Stephen Bray to Jellybean Benitez to Sean Penn to Warren Beatty. And many, many, in between!

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Jasmine - agree with every word you said.

Harvey Weinstein and others like him are every bit the comtrolling assholes, yet I hear a lot of admiration for his ability to get his movies and those he supports nominated.

I love Madonna and wish her continued success. You don't get to her position without talent, ambition, discipline and a tremendous work ethic.

When she walked into the room she was smiling, but obviously had no idea what the surprise party was about. Was she upset? Maybe. I, too, get uncomfortable at surprise parties - not everyone likes them.

  49. Dixie: didn't realize you were in VB :) your post was the first I heard so I turned on the news...holy crap! Amazing and lucky that no one was killed....hope that doesn't change. Good to hear how people in the neighborhood were helping the pilots & getting the apartment-dwellers out. If a bad thing has to happen, I'm glad there is a silver lining :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hey @wenx, yeah. Are you local as well? I haven't heard updates in hours since I've been really busy. I'm going to have to back to the news.

  51. Hey Dixie--I live in Nags Head...watching Channel 10 news about it now...sounds like no fatalities...whew, scary!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I heard a tiny snippet about it on Bob-FM radio in the car a few hrs ago, but then never heard any more scoop until I got home.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @selenakyle: gotta stop for a sec and say how insanely jealous of you I am to live in Nags Head :) I grew up going there with my family during summers & I love it there.

@Dixie: not in VB---just a little bit north, in Fairfax; but am visiting my folks now, who are only an hour away so they have the same local news channel as you :) Last I heard, 6 of the 7 injured people had been released from the hospital, so hopefully that means their injuries weren't too bad. Now if they just don't find anybody in the ruins of the buildings...*crosses fingers*

  54. @Jasmine - I think she would seem more in control and take charge if she wasn't running around with 20 year old boys and wearing clothes from Forever 21. If this was a male, I would rake him over the coals as well. I respect what she did a long time ago, but that doesn't mean she gets a lifelong pass to act like an ass. I don't think she should start knitting potholders and start passing out Werther's Originals either, but I think there is a happy medium.

    ReplyDelete
  55. She moved awfully fast with that knife in hand at face-level, swiveling without really knowing what was behind her.

    Hate her.

    ReplyDelete
  56. See, I don't think it's sexist that I hate Madonna, because she reminds me of Donald Trump, in terms of personality and behavior, and I hate the shit out of that guy. Equal opportunity douchiness.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I LOVED Madonna's Ray of Light album. It was really interesting and lyrically deep vs her more pop stuff. I bet she collects weird shit at home.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm conflicted on this one. As a woman in a male dominated industry (IT), my experience is that I have had to get much harder in order to survive and thrive. Even now, with almost 20 years of experience, my statements of facts are often questioned, and when my male co-workers turn around and say the same things I JUST said, everyone nods and agrees. I struggle not to give in to resentment and bitterness daily. Madonna is in an even harsher male dominated industry than I and for much longer than I have been. I feel as though she must have had to develop a very hard shell to thrive as she has in the music industry. I'm going to have to agree with Jasmine on this one.

Wow. So much hate for someone who's entertained us so much over the past three decades. I am STILL a loyalfan of mademoiselle Madonna. You still rock M.....

  60. Anonymous6:28 PM

I have always loved, loved, loved her as an entertainer. And from the beginning back in 1983, I KNEW she was going to be around a long time. I swear, I just knew she was something we had never seen before and was going to be a phenomenon.

HOWEVER, I always thought she lacked any sense of humor. Many of you have used the word humorless to describe her, and I agree 100% with that.
She takes herself way too seriously. Lighten the F**K up Madonna !

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous6:31 PM

OH, and her pushing that cake in to Guy Oseary's face ?? What an asshole move.

Like most people with no sense of humor, she probably thought that was funny ! They have no concept of what humor is !

    ReplyDelete
  62. She's kind of stale these days, but she did have her time, and it was better than most people have in the spotlight. I listened to her all the time in the '80's, and I'm a hard rock kind of gal (or old lady, now). I guess it's hard to gracefully fade away when you've had that much fame.
