Katy Perry Says She Is Tired Of Being Famous

You know what I hate hearing the most from any celebrity? Exactly what Katy Perry said in the headline. She told Teen Vogue that she is tired of being famous. Uh huh. OK, tell you what. Stop making music and performing and just go find some corner of the world and be there. She would probably say she still wants to make music. Fine, go to the middle of nowhere and record songs and never go on tour. People would soon forget about you and your fame would be a fraction of what it was. That is not what she wants though. She will never give it up because she loves being famous. Most celebrities love being famous. It is not some job you are forced to do. You do it because you choose to do it. Katy says fame is a disgusting by-product of what she does. It is so easy to not be famous. She is the one who chooses to do the things to make herself famous. You want to stop? The stop. Until then, I don't want to hear it.

  1. Her disgust with fame clearly shows in that photo, standing there in that neon green midriff-baring garment.

  2. She also tries to draw attention to herself with her outfits and hairstyles. Within a year or two, she could easily go from "It" girl to a "Oh yeah...forgot about her" if she really wanted to. I have to agree with Enty on this one.

  3. Something about dying your hair new colors every week make me say this girl is lying. NernersHuman said it better than me, though.

  4. So frustrating to hear. I've known so many people who would have given up anything to get their music recognized who had so much more talent. She is a waste of a record contract.

  5. Stop dyeing your hair neon colours, whydoncha?

I am certain that she is not tired of the money. Either get out of the business, or STFU.

  7. But it's so hard y'all! ;)

  8. 10 years from now she'll have her wish.

  9. This annoys the fuck out of me, you know how many would love to have the chance at fame and this twit has the nerve to bitch and moan about it?!?!

Honey you have 9 minutes, 23 seconds and counting left on your 15 minutes sweetie.

    1. Hey! Fame can be very hard. What do you know about it huh? Maybe she tired of people talking shit about her like this. IMAGINE GOING ON THE INTERNET AND SEEING THOUSANDS HATE YOU AND CYBER BULLY YOU!

  10. I used to really like her. Not so much now. She's become an arrogant, whiny, pest.

  11. I have a suggestion; take some time off and learn how to dress properly.

    ReplyDelete
  12. @ Jason Blue Eyes - I hope it's a lot sooner than that!

She should shut up and be grateful for getting her name out there at all. She lacks the talent and her fame is mostly the result of a combination of gimmicks and a vacuum of other viable pop music stars to stay as long as she has.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Totally agree with Enty. Of course the paps (and fans can take it too far), not letting you eat a meal, trespassing to get pics, whatever. But it's just part of being famous these days, right or wrong.

When it's all said and done, that's a very small price to pay for all the perks that come with being a celeb. Why do you think all these losers (plains, kate with 8, teen mom, "real" housewives of wherever, spencer and heidi) are so desperate to remain in the spotlight). Like Enty says, it'd be easy to stop it.

Same goes for lottery winners. They all complain about how winning ruined their lives. Everyone comes out of the woodwork asking for $$, people treat you differently, whatever. You don't want the $$? Give it all to charity. The local newspaper will write an article on you. You'll quickly go back to being you before the big win. Problem solved.

It's good she's sick of fame, because we are all sick of her. It's a win-win all around.

  15. NernersHuman has it right on.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You'd think she'd be grateful, seeing as how she's unattractive and has no talent.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is the mark of a really stupid person. "Oh, let me say that I'm tired of being famous. That will make me seem like just a regular person, and everyone will love me more than they do already." You're just a fucking brain trust, huh Katy!

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is coming from a chick who is BFF's with Rihanna. Two brain trusts for the price of one!

STFU, Katy. Go dry your tears on your bank statements.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think all that mucking about with her hair and clothes is to hide the fact that she has no personality whatsoever.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I wonder what she'd say if she knew most of us felt the exact same way about her.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just give it a minute! History is filled with singers and bands at the top at one time no one can now remember. I was watching the Behind the Music Director's Cut of Journey and realized many could not recognize Steve Perry now.

Remember Taylor Swift? Jody Watley? Karen White?

    Thought not.

  22. Hear hear Enty. This annoyed me too when I read it. It's like Lady Gaga saying that she just wants to live a normal life. Katy Perry is only famous because of her sexuality. What was her first song that everyone knew? "I kissed a girl". What has she constantly flaunted in her music videos? Her bare skin and breasts. If she really just wants people to like her for her music then stop making music videos. I listen to plenty of artists who don't do that and are way better then KP but are far less famous. For some it's because they stick to a certain niche. For others it's simply they don't have any desire for that. Hell I have a friend with a beautiful singing voice and have offered to direct a music video for her for free if she desires. Her response, "No thanks I just want to sing".

In some cases these statements don't bother me. Kristen Stewart for instance. Sure the Twilight books are huge and she's a good actress but what does she really do to draw attention to herself? Not a whole hell of a lot but Paps are still all over her. Granted she could have dropped out of the Twilight films or just stop being an actress and problem solved but at least she isn't courting the Paparazzi with outlandish clothing and hair styles. When KS says she doesn't like the attention I at least believe her. KP? No fucking way and that makes it worse because she obviously is just trying to sound humble. I guess her parents never taught her actions speak louder then words.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with you Katy...I'm also quite tired of you being famous.

That said, we all signed up for this train ride. You're always free to disembark at any time. Or you could jump. Just bend your knees - it softens the landing.

Now, if Katy will just come on out and finally tell everyone the truth about her recording methods. You know, the ones where Katy's not even in the studio when her records are made. Such magic!Wow! How does she do it?

    Maybe - truthfully - she doesn't?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I never got her "music" and I never got her appeal. But then, I'm old and crabby.

    HI HIMMMM!! xoxo

Is she MV? Wouldn't be a bit surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm with Enty on this. If someone doesn't want to be famous, they shouldn't be giving interviews to media complaining about how awful it is being famous. It is not that hard not to be famous. Just stay at home and watch TV and problem is solved.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, you're such a tease, @Himmmm!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm tired of her being famous, too. :(

    ReplyDelete
  28. She needs to just go away then. Take your money and your barely talented self and disappear.
It can be done. Just fade away. You can be mentioned in a footnote in some book about Seasme Street someday.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Enty, brilliantly said!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Her "music" is dreadful, all gimmicks and shrill and no substance, and the videos are crude.

Apart from that, the only time I've seen her she seemed very unpleasant.

I saw her on the Graham Norton show, which format means the guests are interviewed together, at the same time, and interact with each other.

She just sat there, stiff and cold like a frozen mackerel, and would reply in a bizarre, contrived manner when asked something.

Anna Kournikova was another of the guests, and she - who has a reputation as a difficult, stuck up bitch - was very nice, sensible and sweet as pie.
She tried the whole time to engage with KP, to include her in the conversations, but she hardly deigned to reply and wouldn't even make eye contact.
I even got the impression that she had adjusted her seating position to the point she was almost turning her back to the other guests.

It was extremely awkward and very strange.

  31. @ MonstersInc.: I heard a KidzBop version of Firework and thought, "Hey, this song isn't so bad once you get rid of all the screeching."

  32. Dear Katy,

    Wah.

    Signed, the entire planet.

P.S. Jesse James is waiting for you on the bus to HasBeenVille.

  33. Hi Himmmm!

And Netta, I thought the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I see her appeal (to 12 yr olds) and I understand that at one point she wanted to be famous. But no one knows what "fame" really means until they are fully immersed. The money and perks are nice...The constant being in a fishbowl, not so much. Bitching about it however, pretty tacky. Be careful what you wish for. You will get it.

    Hey Himmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Surfer, it makes a lot of sense now that I think about it, doesn't it?

I don't remember her name ever coming up.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Netta - absatively. Kind of. I might be a bit foggy, but wasn't the MV blind before Katy hit it big?

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Henriette - "Remember Taylor Swift? Jody Watley? Karen White?"

Karyn White, just to underscore your point even more, lol! (Random side note, Karyn is releasing a new album this year called Carpe Diem...I think the new single is called Unbreakable. It's nice, though a tad dated and likely won't get played much. But just in case there is a single person on this earth besides me who is checking for faded 80's/90's stars, there's your bit of info haha.)

Taylor is still remembered, though. She's very of the times. Did you mean Taylor Dayne?

@Netta - MV is too old of a blind to be Katy (she wasn't even around when Ent first wrote it). I think Himmmmm (hi!) is just saying how little presence she actually has in the recording process. I have heard her sing live before, and this isn't exactly a testimony to her talents but she has hit enough cracks and bum notes that it's definitely her singing...they just polish things up a bit (oh who am I kidding, a LOT) for her in the studio. Her songs are such paint-by-numbers pop hits it's probably really easy to make an entire song with her 'voice' but without her actually being there to sing it...like a machine. Just input the syllables and you're good to go, right? Or just have her put down a quick rough demo of everything and send her on her merry way while the producers do the rest of the work. This is probably true of quite a few 'singers' these days.

Katy needs to stick to quirky acoustic stuff, her voice is actually pleasant on that. On the straight pop stuff is where she sucks, which is ironic b/c that is the stuff that sells for her and the second she tries to stray from it she will probably see most of her 'fans' disappear.

@Giulia Katy is probably one of those celebrities who had to be 'coached' on how to interview, and most interviews are one-on-one so she probably had no idea what to do with herself when thrown into a group setting.

  38. Great katy im tired of u too!

  40. @MonstersInc: 'Firework' pales in comparison to what is sure to be the ever-classic '(I Wanna See your)Peacock.' The simplistic beauty of the lyrics, the subtle undertones of the tune, the brilliant orchestration.... No doubt this recording will be remembered and sung for generations to come.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh, and to the whole "I'm tired of being famous" thing - whether or not it annoys me depends on the celebrity saying it. And I find that the ones who wouldn't annoy me by saying it never actually say it in such a disingenuous or contradictory way. The statement would have been more genuine if she simply said that she loves her work but sometimes fame is exhausting and she needs to take a little break from it every now and then. That is logical.

For most celebs however I don't believe them. First of all everyone knows LA is a magnet for hangers-on so if you really want to get away from the paps why are you living in that city? It is not like Katy is an actress whose show or movie tapes in LA. She is a singer which means she can live wherever the hell she wants and hide from the entire world, if that is really what she wanted to do. But of course, it's not. And that is not to mention all the obviously attention-seeking stuff she does like wear blue hair and banana outfits. This isn't just red-carpet fare, this is how she presents herself to the world in almost every pic I've seen of her. And the broken marriage that is being played up for tabloid fodder. Part of Me is not a coincidental single release considering the timing. Meh.

Just...go somewhere and sit down for six months, Katy. We might loathe you just a little bit less when you finally return.

    ReplyDelete
  42. oh please. then GO AWAY. WHY are you still recording albums and touring. It IS possible to fade into obscurity if you REALLY want to.

    what an asshole!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi Himmmmm! Always good to see your smiling face, so to speak.

See, if a celebrity said "Wow, this fame thing isn't always quite what I expected and sometimes part of it aren't so fun," I could maybe get behind them. But then the ones who say "Oh I'm tirrrrrrrrrrred of being famous," and then go on to dress and act like attention whores, well, they can go suck it. Hard.

    ReplyDelete
  44. She always sounds like she's straining her voice, even behind the electronica that disguises it. They may use a backup singer to help beef out her voice in recording, but if it were someone else recording all of her tracks, wouldn't they pick someone who sounds better?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm so sick of her. Her music sucks, she sucks and now she's being a whiny bitch on top of it? She never says or does anything worthwhile.

Can i press assault charges on behalf of my eardrums and eyes? Enty you're a lawyer! Help me out!

She do us all a favor and go should find the rest of that outfit, a gag ball and then go stand in front of a green screen for the rest of her life.

    ReplyDelete
  46. LOL @mngdess. There's a LOT more "stars" I'd like to see hop on that train.

Welcome back @Himmmm. Missed your bad self. Please try to wait a few weeks before you get yourself in trouble again.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I still like her and will assume she's tired and jaded from all the touring and from her break up with RB. She's running around acting like everything's fine but that had to hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Really love several of Katy's catchy tunes - great dancing music. It seems she just used a poor choice of words.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Uh oh. The PR flacks have arrived ^.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Screw her. Russell must be smiling to himself he's out of her circus life. Even Fellini would have found her overwhelming.

Can't stop listening to "D-Day" by Debbie Harry. There's a woman who has talent.

    ReplyDelete
  51. But...her career is such an exercise in doing everything one possibly can to achieve fame as opposed to anything resembling genuine self-expression. She seemed to have had a reasonably fulfilling musical life in obscurity...and she sold it out. I mean, I love pop as much as anyone but come ON, Katy!

    ReplyDelete
  52. As much as it pains me to say it, Katy actually has a pretty good voice. But, as I've said before, she's not exactly a brain surgeon, ifyaknowwhatI'msayin.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I don't hate her at all, but it really annoys me as well when celebs say this line. That and "I'm retiring from acting." only to return a few weeks later.

If she wants to go back into obscurity, I'm sure there's an open spot in the choir at her pop's church.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Himmmmm

I'm surprised (in a non-snarky way) that you're posting again. You seemed fairly emphatic that your previous post was a sign-off. What changed your mind?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hi, Himmmm! Glad to see you!

I can definitely understand that there are aspects of fame that can be difficult to deal with, no matter how badly you thought you wanted it. (Who was it that said "when the gods wish to destroy us, they answer our prayers"? I know it wasn't original w/Truman Capote...) For starters, I don't think most people's visions of fame and fortune involved having scary stalkers, paparazzi w/mega-telephoto lenses, and everyone wanting a piece of you. However, as so many others above pointed out, it's one thing to say that certain aspects of celebrity kinda suck, especially the ones you didn't expect, and quite another to whine that you're "tired of being famous."

So...Katy, in the off chance that you or your people are reading this, quit whining and start thinking. If you really are getting tired of the celebrity rat race, you could start out slowly by dying your hair back to its natural color and wearing somewhat more low-key clothes (you don't have to go all drab, but ixnay on the neon, perhaps?), and stop showing up at the opening of an envelope. Maybe take a nice quiet vacation somewhere in Europe; check out museums and historical sites. Do some serious reading and expand your mind beyond the next Top 40 hit. Maybe hang out at home and work on the kind of music you did before you were famous (hell, if you decide to release it, you can always spin it as "going back to your roots"). You don't have to disappear from the face of the earth and be totally forgotten, mind you--just take a few steps back, learn to enjoy your own company, and catch your breath. You can do it...if you really want to, that is.

    ReplyDelete
  56. @mynerva: He just doesn't know how to quit us, that's all. ;-)

(What do you get when you combine a 400 lb. lawyer living in his parents' basement, a possible A+ list star, and several dozen rabidly enthusiastic and opinionated regular posters? Why, Brokeback CDAN, of course!)

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Robin - HA! like it!

I can't help it, she looks like Judy Jetson barfed on her. Ewwwww

  58. to himmmmm...hello. are you talking about 'the freedom train'...or when she doesnt even enter the studio, what do you mean? someone was telling me how they implant people with chips and use songs like lady gaga just dance which has frequencies...actually, i dont even know what i am talking about lol.... but i doubt katy perry can actually think for herself, what about poor britney spears? i was just reading about her free britney campaigne. poor girl lost her soul....she is just a robot, a singing zombie..

    ReplyDelete
  59. i think katy would like to get out of the industry but she is a slave forever indebted to them...

  60. If she's sick of attention, why the blue hair?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Right on, I wish she would go away, I hate how much my nieces look up to her. She got famous for the song, " I kissed a girl" yeah she's a real artist.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ Robin - love your posts. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  63. As someone who can really sing, loves singing and wouldn't mind having a career(even at 30 something) off my voice ,Katy and her kind bug me a lot. Get over yourself! You signed up for the ride darling. Play the game, warble away til your last vestiges of fame fade. Then complain how you wish you were famous again *yawn*.

It has all been done before. As generic and manufactured as your music is be glad it sells.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I am tired of Katy Perry being famous also. I don't think all of the 14 year old girls out there are. They seem to be her target audience.

    ReplyDelete
  65. probably divorce fatigue speaking. i like her.

    ReplyDelete
  66. For Fuck's Sake **WHAT YOU SAID ENTY**!

She's a total AW & would shrivel up & die with out the attention 24/7/365. Stupid bint.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I used to be a child actor. I was never famous or anything, but I did get some media attention and was constantly reminded of my work by the students at my various schools.

I have always been very private. I realised at about 16 that if I seriously trained as an actor with the goal of being successful in the industry, success would likely mean some degree of recognition or even fame.

That's when I made a firm decision that I did not want to be an actor. I knew I couldn't handle fame and being successful wasn't worth the price attatched to it.

So when celebrities complain about the recognition that they knew would be a side-effect of their success, I know that at some point they almost certainly made a choice to accept the consequences.

Sorry, Katy. Nobody held a gun to your head and forced you into those regrettable outfits and wigs. You are a fame wh*re par excellence.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Robin - I'm already casting the movie in my head.....

    ReplyDelete
  69. Seriously... how can anyone complain for something they signed up for that makes them millions of dollars and provides financial stability for years to come? Especially, considering there are million of non-famous people out there that are just trying to pay the bills and put food on the table from paycheck to paycheck. So much for self-awareness. I wouldn't love the fishbowl life but she doesn't sound like she has a clue how privileged she is to have such "rich people" problems.
