Jay Leno Puts On The XXL Kneepads For Mel Gibson

Jay Leno is kind of turning into the Larry King of late night hosts. You want to tell your side of the story and not hear a peep to contradict you? Jay Leno is your guy. Mel Gibson was on last night and Jay let him tell his side of the whole rant Mel directed at Oksana and Joe Eszterhas by simply saying that it was all Joe's fault for not turning in a script and Mel has a temper problem. Jay laughed and then asked Mel if he wanted Jay to put on the kneepads for another go round or if he was ok with just once.

  1. Ugh, Jay Leno was already a piece of shit. I look down on him even more now for giving Gibson a platform to defend himself. Disgusting.

  2. Same here, never liked him, now I despise him.

  3. He's fucking fawning over that assclown Mel. The grossest part is how Jay keeps touching Mel's shoulder. "Hey Mel, who is your buddy". He's up Mel's ass further than Kneepads would ever go. "I'm Jay fucking Leno, and I just made Mel Gibson a lovable, great guy again."

Jay Leno, you're an egotistical, ass kissing douche.

  4. Never watch that show, not from day one. So disgusted what he did to Carson and Letterman, little weasel. Watched it for five minutes for Duran Duran last year, then promised myself to just find clips on youtube from now on. Barf.

Looking at that still, they cleaned up crazy Mel really well. Must have a great team behind the scenes. Double barf.

  5. oh look at me im just a fuddy duddy sweet adorable sociopath. Pay no attention when i'm ripping your throat out.

Mel and his heavy breathing are just creepy.

  8. * This isn't the first time Eszterhas has written a scathing letter that he "leaked" to the press. Back in 1989, he had a well-documented feud with Mike Ovitz. In that letter, he accused Ovitz of trying to blackmail him amongst other things.
    * In Eszterhas' 752 page memoir (blowhard much?), he re-invents history and repeatedly takes credit for others' accomplishments.
    * Eszterhas acknowledges his own father as an anti-semite. Rejection by Mel -> transference of feelings and self-hatred?

Mel is no angel but it sounds like he's not the only one that needs help.

  9. Read Lynda Obst's review of the Eszterhas memoir here:

    http://lyndaobstproductions.com/content/072300.html

    In brief:

"Eszterhas chooses never to distinguish among opinion, fact and utter poppycock."

  10. I used to love Mel (well, my perception of him, anyway) but now? He's chillingly scary to me.

  11. I'm not even going to watch the video because I don't feel like throwing up, but WHY IS THIS THING STILL ON TELEVISION?!?

  12. @hunter - forgive me, but assclown is my word of the day. I won't be posting tomorrow because of Jazz Fest, so FYI my word for tomorrow is fucktard. Feel free to use it for me. :)

  13. I wonder what Mel's actual diagnosis is. He seemed pretty nervous, as he should be. Actually both seemed nervous.

  14. Mel is easy pickins.
I'm certainly not defending him but it sure does seem like he's a huge target and it's hard to forget he flipped off Hollywood with "Passion" being funded out of his own pocket.

Again, not defending him. No doubt he's more than a bit insane and I wouldn't want to be in the same room with him when he gets mad (hell, not even the same state). I just think that plenty of people in Hollywood are also probably batshit. They just either kiss more ass or it's in the studio's best interest to not hang them out to dry the way Mel is.

No use for Leno (or anyone who would claim "Showgirls" for that matter)

One last time, not defending Gibson.

  15. We all know how badly Mel can behave, but yes, I recall hearing about what an asswipe Eszterhas can be, and I wouldn't put it past him to either make some things up, or to deliberately needle someone until he evokes the desired response, so I'm not feeling terribly bad for him. His family is another matter, but I'll blame him for some of that, too--don't wave a red flag at the bull, and then shove your loved ones into its way when it starts charging, when you know perfectly well how the bull might react.

Is there such a thing as Team STFU, Both Of You? And if not, can I start it? There's so many situations where it would come in handy...

(Having said that, I do hope that our friend Himmmm does speak w/his friend Mel privately--because doing this publicly would be a Really Bad Idea--and, as much as is possible, return the favor he got so long ago and help save the latter's career/well-being/possibly life. Mel's not stupid, untalented, or minus any redeeming qualities, it's a shame he's been drowning in a toxic stew of booze, anger, hatred, and possible mental illness for so long and inflicting it on others, and it would be good to see him take control of his life, get whatever help he needs, and make whatever amends are necessary to get back on the right track. Frankly, at this point I'd be happier to see Mel get it together than LiLo--he has kids who need him, friends who want to see him doing better, and he has done right by people in the past, whereas everyone close to her is a parasite of some sort--except her sister, who's a victim--and AFAIK she's never actually done anything for anyone ever. Of course, ideally they'd both get their shit straight, but ideally I'd win the $1K a Day lottery, too...)

I just kept watching and wondering how I ever thought Mel Gibson was attractive.

In my defense, I've NEVER found Leno attractive.

  17. To those defending Mel Gibson:

There have been people talking about his extreme homophobic/racist/misogynistic tendencies and behaviors in account after account. And I'm pretty sure most of those people didnt get some bailout or seek money from allllllll the incidences. Saying Mel is a "target" implies that these things arent happening. And lets him off the hook a little. Even if 1/4 of the shit people have said (and recorded! him saying) are true than why bother defending such a despicable human being AT ALL!?
Sheesh- that's like picking apart a Michael Richards racial rant and saying, well at least he thanked the audience for being there so it wasnt that bad.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I guess he needs all the help he can get, and pandering to narcissists is a great idea since it seems to be an infinite resource in H'Wood. Disgusted.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I take Eszterhaus with a grain of salt as well. But when someone constantly complains about how bad shit is always coming down on them, I call bullshit. Where there is smoke, there's fire and both these guys always seem to have a matches.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why should Jay Leno sttack his guests? It's purely an entertainment show, not 60 Minutes. Leno asked questions, Mel answered, and the audience was with Mel.

As for Eszterhas---taping someone in their own home and then putting it on the Internet is now defensible?

    Eww.

  21. FS "So disgusted what he did to Carson and Letterman"- I'm sorry, what did he do to Johnny Carson ? Did you mean Conan ? Help !!

    ReplyDelete
  22. First off (IMHO), Leno has never claimed to be a journalist or even remotely associated with journalism. (And if he considers himself to *be* a reporter instead of just an entertainer, I'm going to hunt down his drug dealer and get as supply of whatever he's on for myself)
Second, Gibson is an incredibly lucky, barely functional sociopath with blatant personality disorders that unfortunately happen to coincide with the characters he portrays on screen. And translate well. The camera still loves him.
    The public? Not so much.
I'd be interested in seeing the connection NBC has with Gibson though.
Is a NBC suit or suits financing a new Gibson project and they need good buzz?
That's really the only reason I can see for the felching Leno gave Gibson.

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Agent Johnny Carson didn't want to retire the network forced him out. Leno and his then Manager Helen Kushnick orchestrated him getting Johnny's spot over Letterman who Johnny wanted to replace him when he left the show.

Jay Mr. Nice Guy will do anything to get his way. So to date, Jay, has fucked over, Carson, Letterman, Conan and he even fired his Manager Helen Kushnick, who helped Jay from the start. She has since died of cancer.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks, I had no clue about Carson.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Timebob, Carson did want to retire, the bone of contention was Leno's mgr telling him not to publicly thank him, which Jay admitted was error. It isnt Lenos fault Conan sucked, and still does, and got canned. Actually, they offered him half hour later, and I still dont get why that was such a dis. He shld hv taken it, and let people get used to him, as he is an aqquired taste. I dont gv a rats ass about Letterman, a nasty dusagreeable man who's idea of humor is making fun of people. The nerwork wanted Leno, whats Leno supp to say? "No no give it to letterman!". Who also has limited appeal. And keep in mind all these people are fantastically, amazingly wealthy, so im not crying for any of them.
I want to dislike Mel, I fi, but I just cant. He seemed very wired, and of course I dont agree with any insane biased rants, but I just cant wrap my head around it that mel said that stuff. And u shldnt be taping anYtone in their house, esp when YOU are getting yelled at for not doing your work, lol

    ReplyDelete
  26. And Helen Kushnick was well known crazy nasty lady, and Jay and his wife finished raising her son, who i think was like 15 when she died. They support/supported him.

  28. I watch Jay usually over Dave because he is funnier, and it leads into Fallon. I love the Jaywalking segments, although they give me great cause to fear for the
    future of this country.
    The Headlines segments are funny.

Jay is a non-confrontational kind of guy. He seems passive, maybe a tad passive aggressive to me.

Someone told him to have Mel on, he does what he's told.

His personal wish I'm sure would be to have someone entertaining not polarizing.

Joe E. always has a bitch with someone over something.

Most of us will never like Mel again no matter what, so the suits got it wrong.

  29. If Himmmmm is RDJ, then he has already spoken out in favor of his friend Mel Gibson. Mel helped RDJ a great deal. Mel was also a mentor and friend to Heath Ledger. And Whitney Houston's family invited Mel to her funeral because he tried many times to help her with her drug addiction, but he was unable to attend. I think Mel has tried to do good and help people in his life. But his alcoholism is destroying him. He obviously still has friends who care. I wish someone would urge him to get help.

  30. Those NBC mics are amazing! We can clearly hear Leno's voice even though his head is buried firmly up Mel Gibson's ass.

  33. @jasmine i totally agree with u. People r acting like Mel didnt say those awful things and that he is still a good guy. Im sure he is a good guy to non jews! I get upset sometimes also but i dont start calling people jewboy and the other hateful things he said.

    ReplyDelete
  34. He was under the influence of alcohol when he said those terrible things. I have no idea if Mel is really an anti-Semite or racist, but I wouldn't base my opinion on a drunken rant. Hell, Marlon Brando had said some very anti-Semitic things (Jews run Hollywood, run everything, etc.) and he wasn't even drunk yet Hollywood gave him a pass. I guess because he never made a movie about the last days of Christ.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You're welcome Agent!

    I'm OK to go!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Let's just say, of the 15 years I've been here, I've heard Jews say much, much worse about Jews.

Now, does that make him right, absolutely not. BUT, this feigned indignation is a joke.

The fact that Eszterhas taped a man in his own home to for backup, is pretty fucked up.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm not defending Mel, but his money was good for Eszterhas....Give me a fucking break.

    ReplyDelete
  38. All I really care about is being entertained. Gibson makes great movies. Is he an asshole? Probably...but most people are. Just about EVERYONE in Hollywood is. So whatever...pat each other on the back and reassure each other that you are great people because you 'hate' Mel Gibson. Me, I'll continue to watch good movies.

Oh, and I disagree with most of Mel's political viewpoints...I can't stand religion at all. That being said I would still probably enjoy talking with the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @ Mango: Excellent..And MerlinTBear nailed it.

Alcohol doesn't change who you are so much as amplify it. Therefore if you "act" like you don't have an issue with a certain group of people when you're sober but do when you're drunk it's just the truth coming out uncensored.

And kids, I love his/her/their commentary and I know we all just want to believe it,(sorry Carol) but honestly Himmmm isn't RDJ. Hate to burst your bubble. The collective Himmmm is/has some insight and some in but I seriously do not believe it is who we all want to think it is.

Finally anyone notice how Mel takes absolutely no responsibility whatsoever for his crazy tirade? Oh sociopaths can be so, so charming.

  42. @Sherry,

Watch the video again. He admits he fucked up regarding the Eszterhas audio tape at the 1:33 mark.

I'm not a Mel fanatic, but for me, the fact that Eszterhas is playing the Jew Card, which to me, is galling.

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Sher, thank you, thank you, thank you... I don't know why I don't say this more often, feel like a killjoy I suppose. But it drives me crazy that people still believe it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Sis: yes he admitted he did it but without one iota of admitting cause and effect. He basically laughed it off as though it was the most normal behaviour. "You WILL blow me" runs through my head.
