German Model Kills Herself After Appearing On Reality Show

Claudia Boerner was on the German reality show The Perfect Dinner. Basically it is about four people who compete against each other cooking. Well, after Claudia's appearance on the show there were lots of abusive comments about her on the internet from people who watched the program and said that she was just trying to get attention and that she was showing off for the camera and wanted attention and dressed to show her fake breasts. It went on and on and on. It is nothing new, but apparently she read them all and took them all seriously and was so distressed about it that she killed herself. Her neighbors called police when they smelled gas coming from her apartment.

  1. Jesus, don't people realize if you put yourself out there people will talk? Sad... Someone should have taken away her computer till it all blew over...

  2. It's probably the German version of "Come dine with me", which has been on for years in Britain.

The show itself is very mean-spirited, with the contestants being very bitchy and nasty towards each other (not to each others' faces, but in the "confessionals") and even the narrator is sarcastic and mean.
    It's a stupid, stupid show.

I'm sorry for this poor girl.

  3. Horrible. But I agree with cinephreak.

This reminds me of that Korean actor that killed himself because people were saying things about him online. Then an actress killed herself because she was so distraught about him.

  4. Oh this is just so sad!! I know nasty, snarky things will be said of folks when they are in the public eye. That's why it's so important to have a thick skin or just not read anything that's said.

  5. Yes I'm sorry and this is certainly a shame but if you're going to go on a REALITY SHOW, the online community is going to snark. Perhaps the casting producers should do a psychological evaluation in advance. Actually I think I'm on to something there...

The fact that Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has NOT killed herself despite the whole damn world busting her balls goes to show that some people are just more fragile than others.

  6. People forget that celebrities are people too. I'm one of those people. I agree, you have to develop a very thick skin to survive in any kind of public position, from local city council member to king of the world. People can be very vicious, especially with the safety of anonymity.

    1. I am confused. Are you stating that you are a person with feelings, or a famous person with feelings? All kidding aside, I agree with you. It seems our culture has lost the ability to have empathy for others. We have all turned into self righteous a*holes.

  7. People don't seem to realize how serious bullying is.

  10. People have lost their sense of priorities: 1) to not be so rude and hurtful to people and 2) to not have the strength to throw them the old one-finger salute to those that are.

    Very sad.

  11. and sometimes stupid people just need to get out the gene pool.

I know I'm being mean, but seriously, you're gonna go on a reality show known for being snarky and then kill yourself because... people were being snarky? umm...

one less stupid person in the species. 1,000,000,000 to go...

  12. I agree with Unknown. Butch it up. The person was probably not too stable to begin with if something like this caused her to kill herself.

I love "Come Dine With Me," by the way.

And making nasty comments about someone online is not bullying. Bullying involves abuse of power. Let's not dumb down the term to "people being mean."

  13. I haven't seen the german version for years (as I have no TV anymore) but I used to like it and it was not THAT mean spirited. At least in the beginnings of the show it was a cook show with relativly normal people. But I can remember that people used it more and more as a platform for themselves and if it progressed even more in this direction I can imagine that it also created more snark against the canditates. Reality TV really brings out the worst in people. Sad.

  14. let's blame her more now that she's dead.
    clearly she just wants attention!!
    seriously....SMFH.

    1. She killed herself. No one else did it. So I think she can take alot of the blame. We all learn as adults not to put ourselves in unhealthy situations.

  16. @FS - One good way to not take it personally is to just remind yourself that these are just strangers - strangers that you will never meet, never know or have any contact with. Who cares what strangers say about you? A random person uploads a video of themselves on YouTube chances are 90% of the comments will be nasty. That's just the nature of the beast. Don't take it to heart.

  17. Just a billion, Unknown? You give the human race too much credit.

She must have had something else going on in her life.

  18. Tragedy is tragedy regardless of the situation. It's one thing to be cynical, but another to ignore basic humanity. Loss of human life is sorrowful. End of story.

I feel sorry for whom ever this effected (friends, family, and the model).

  19. I hope she serves as a role model for some if the idiots here in USA reality shows, lol

  20. Get rid of the billion stupid people first and then move on to the billion or more who lack empathy for others.

  21. I'm pretty sure the German model herself made negative comments about other Reality Show contestants/celebrities. Who doesn't?? It's best to stay away from reading anything about yourself - good or bad.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You don't kill yourself because some people on the Internet were mean. She must have had some other issues that weren't known. She could have been silently suffering from depression or something else.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hmm... if you're that fragile, you could you know... NOT go on a freakin' REALITY show based on being snarky...

You could... i dunno... not relentlessly read every comment made about yourself afterwards and maybe just close the laptop instead?

That's just off the top of my head folks, it's not that hard.

How about she was just stupid and mental, and it's not the big, bad world's fault for being a big meanie. wah. Life sux.

  24. Talk about the ultimate bake off...

  25. For her to actually kill herself, this couldn't have been the first time she thought about it so no way it's the show's fault. The thoughts are in your head for years. You can push them away when you are doing well, then if you try something bigger and fail (like going on a reality show) that can be the final straw for you. Likable or not she must have been tortured by her thoughts her whole life.

  26. I'm sure that when signing up fora reality showy our number one thought isn't all the horrible things people are going to say about you.

And I agree, the show probably tipped her over the edge. Doesn't matter that she did it herself. It's just sad that she's passed.

  27. Interesting that the cause of her death was negative internet comments, and now that she is dead she is receiving even more neg comments. I agree with some of you that stated she probably had mitigating cirumstances which contributed to her suicide. If that is the case, then it is a shame that a friend or family member did not step in and advise her to avoid the spotlight until she was better apt to handle the haters. A sad story all the way around. RIP

  28. I feel so sorry for her family. We can never know what else was vexing her that compounding the need to check out. But truly with fame (and people equate that with LOVE) comes the possibility of hate. As an actor if you believe the good reviews you have to believe the bad, so just believe in yourself.
And Krab thank you for the definition. Too often people are using a bad reply to something someone said as an excuse to call bullying. Shit, we were ALL picked on as kids but either avoided those people or grew tougher. But only some people were bullied. Let's distinguish the difference.

  29. So she killed herself by turning on gas that could have ignited from someone flicking a light switch and taken out the entire building.

Who bets she thought she'd be found? If you want to die you don't blow out the pilot light. oops.

  30. so true bink. for instance, with sites like cdan, people come out and post some awful, dehumanizing things on a daily basis. i've stopped reading some of the comments because i just feel like so much negativity is not a good thing. it's like being anonymous has made us all entitled or something.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So Miaou and Bink don't come to the comments if you are disturbed by them. I think, of all the places I read, this one is actually one of the nicest. Look how many people have sympathized with her and her family and who have summised that there was something else to this story and not neccesarily the ribbing from the show. I hear people say nice things and bad but there are certainly places where I hear worse. Read freakin' Yahoo comments. That should shock you!

  32. ^So true, Sherry. I can't make it through most comment threads without getting totally pissed off/disgusted/saddened.

What a sad story...this is the dark side to the interwebs & social media.

  33. Agreed Ivy.

    Internet bullying exists.

  34. This is really sad. I watch this show reguarly and I watched the week where Claudia participated. (Which was like two weeks ago?) The show is not really mean-spirited like someone already said earlier. Yes, there can be snarky comments, but really it's all quite civilised. The week where Claudia participated had a theme of "the model against the mother". There was an "Italian" woman ("the mother") and there was Claudia. But basically both women didn't really cook that great (and not that bad either). There weren't really harsh comments from contests about each other. And the contestants seemed to get along. This is why this really shocked me!
Claudia did talk freely about being a model, having had multiple breast jobs (and being very happy with it) and being finally at ease with herself, because she finally had found love ... with a woman.
The show didn't present this in a bad way, but really it seemed positive "finally I'm at a good place", nothing dramatic.
That is why I find this so shocking! There were no cynical or harsh comments from the other contestants or the narrator ... this is very sad.

  35. It's human nature to want to know how you're being perceived in public but it helps to have someone else do the reading and filter out the bad/negative stuff...no one needs to be bashed or bullied online...and then to kill yourself over it? The terrorists win.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree with Ivy...I wonder how they determined that it was because she read the neg. comments. No one was with her; she could have been/dealing with depression. Still sad.
