Are you a huge Hunger Games fan? Do you have an extra $1.4M sitting around with nothing to do? Well, you can buy District 12. The town in North Carolina known as Henry River Mill Village is 72 acres and was where the District 12 scenes were filmed. It is also for sale. There have been no residents in the town since 1987 and the current owner knows that now is the best time to sell. I also think he is asking way too low of a price. There are going to be at least two more movies in this series and if they break up the last book into two movies, then you can see there are going to be visitors to this town for awhile. It can generate way more than $1.4M worth of sales over that time period. I'm actually surprised it has been on the market for longer than a day or two at that price. Almost a quarter if book two takes place in District 12, so just the fee charged to producers should get you a lot of your investment back.
If it's only $1.4M, why doesn't the movie company buy it?

ReplyDelete@ hunter, I liked book 2, but yeah, I thought book 3 sucked. Not sure how they're going to divide it into two movies. Got my hubby to read book one last weekend, and we're going to see the movie tonight.
ReplyDeleteAfter you buy it you might make some money from the tourists (who happen to be driving by and see the signs...it's not like it's a destination like Disney World) but after the Looky-Lou's dry up, you're stuck paying property taxes on something you can't sell.

ReplyDelete@hunter & @momster - I liked 2 the best too. I thought 1 was alright. Not bad, but not great, 2 was pretty good and I am currently in the middle of 3 and having a hard time getting through it. I have to finish it because I started the trilogy, but sometimes I have to force myself. Also, I have no idea how they are going to break that into two movies either. I'm curious to see how that plays out.

Book three was boring until the very end when I was speed reading at 2am because I wanted to know who would live happily ever after.

ReplyDeleteSaw the movie last night and read the books. The 'dogs' pissed me off since they portrayed them as having no significance other than being part of the games. Nothing else, at all, was unusual about them. Those of you who read the book, did that piss you off too? I'm still irked.
ReplyDelete^^Yes, it did. Having the victim's faces on the dogs would have made it more tragic and and heartless. In the book, it just about broke her heart to see that little girl's face on one of the dogs.
