Your Turn
So, when you are standing in the checkout line, which magazine do you pick up and look through while waiting? Not necessarily the one you buy, but the one you look at? I am a Globe guy through and through at the checkout stand. What is shocking to me is that when it comes to crazy stories that make no sense, OK! seems to be second right behind them, but that is rarely at the checkout stand so don't see it that often. I also look at some of the Spanish tabloids because I always feel like I am missing out on something great if I could only read more of it.
in my country (France),there only are several cook magazines at the checkout stands
ReplyDeleteReal Simple.
ReplyDeleteUs Weekly. I like to laugh at the lies they tell, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm true to you Enty! I don't read any of them cuz' I know I'll get the straight dope from you.
ReplyDeleteI'm prompted to pick up a rag if the cover has a "Guess who's body this is" section. Get suckered into those every time.
ReplyDeleteI read Taste of Home. Even though their recipes are like awesome, I hardly ever buy the mag because it's around $9 or so. I'm cheap.
ReplyDeleteNone - I use the self-checkout lines.
ReplyDeleteI glance at the gossip magazine covers and then snicker to myself at how off base they are.
ReplyDeleteSoap Opera Digest.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for stars who have cellite or stars without make-up covers too.
I love the pictures in People en Espanol because those men are hot!
cellulite
ReplyDeleteLife some have said above me, I only pick them up if they have a bad body or no make-up spread.
ReplyDeleteWith the internet, I don't know how magazines stay afloat.
I'm versatile...if I am hungry it's Taste of Home, if I am feeling nosy it is a scandal rag (my nickname for talbloids or People) if I need to go somewhere that night then it's a fashion mag for inspiration on what to wear that night ;>
ReplyDeleteNone. I pull out my Droid in the check out line and read CDAN!
ReplyDeleteI don't read any of them in the checkout lane. I am always looking at the odd things you find for sale at that point...magnifying glasses, chewing gum, sewing kits, bubble liquid, scissors...it's an odd mixture and for some reason fascinates me.
ReplyDeleteI will sometimes buy a People. I need something in the bathroom for a little light reading and some weeks I've already finished Reader's Digest and the AARP Magazine and I'll get a People to put on the tank.
But if I go for a pedicure, or have to wait in the doctor's office, I am all over the tabloids.
Globe & Nat'l Enquirer. I do buy the Taste of Home mags from time to time. Some of the recipes are really good! (And I've got the butt to prove it)
ReplyDeleteI tend to look at the Country Home magazines. Mostly it depends on the time of the year. I love Halloween, so I will look at all the crazy tabloid ones during that time of the year. Some of the headlines are frightening. Of course, I often think they should publish their "Who's giant cellulite riddled ass is in this bikini" headlines for October as well. Talk about scary.
ReplyDeleteI look at the reslly expensive decorating magazines I am too cheap to buy. I mean, really, $12.00 for a mag??!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to sound like a total pushover, but I feel bad reading the magazines without buying them *L*. I used to buy US Weekly and In Touch every week though. Now I just look at Kim Kardashians chipmunk cheeks on the cover and move on.
ReplyDelete@Syko - me, too! I never buy those magazines but read as many as I can when I'm at a doc or dentist visit.
ReplyDeleteI laugh at the awful headlines on the tabloids here (I live in Sweden and the royals are just... hoo boy...), and sometimes I thumb through the history magazines (my local grocery store has a massive magazine section just before the checkout).
ReplyDeleteBack in the states, I loooove trying to read the Spanish tabloids, though. So much drama, so many ¡!
Don't get the time anymore I am usually watching a 2 yr. old and have to unload the cart. Give all my coupons, usually try to buy for the hole month on food I can freeze and get some fresh stuff that we can eat in a week. Then only go back for Diapers, wips, juice and fresh vetgetables all while watching a 2 yr. old she is helping me right now.
ReplyDeleteNone.
ReplyDeleteI read the ones I would never buy...Star, Enquirer, etc...sometimes I actually pick a long line if there is a good cover story...I read celebrity gossip for the same reason a lot of people do...it's just an escape somehow...my favorites are the relationship stories - affairs, weddings, divorces...for some odd reason it's really fascinating to me, even though I know 75% of it is publicist-generated crap or yellow journalism...
ReplyDeleteUS WEEKLY -- They have a section where they cap on hideous clothing that stars wear.
ReplyDeleteUS WEEKLY -- They have a section where they cap on hideous clothing that stars wear.
ReplyDeleteI go to the regular magazine racks, and grab something to read in line. Usually Scientific American. Or Combat Handguns.
ReplyDeleteI like looking at Town & Country or decorating magazines.
ReplyDeleteI used to work for Globe (don't judge!), and was mortified when all my friends would put in their requests for mags - I would just put them into a manila envelope, as I wouldn't be caught dead holding one in public.
toldyaso85: My mom subscribed to the National Enquirer, as well as Fate Magazine.
ReplyDeleteI really miss the Weekly World News, the tabloid that usually had something ludicrous on the cover.
ReplyDelete"Martian's meet with President to discuss nuclear arms treaty"...
"Two-headed baby naturally bi-lingual"...
Always worth a chuckle, I never touched it, but always looked for it.
I have better things to spend my money on than celebrity mags, however, I get annoyed that my eyes are interminably drawn to them. So, for retribution (and to protect everyone else from being forced to care about kim morecashian's latest venal oral eruption) I flip them over in the stands so only the advert on the back shows.
ReplyDeleteSmall victories I know, but it gives me the jollies.
Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone or Entertainment Weekly.
ReplyDeletenational enquirer
ReplyDeleteand speaking of spanish magazines, my latest obsession is I Love Jenni (jenni rivera, it's on one of the spanish channels). you guys should all check her out. it's on ondemand.
If I'm hungry, Taste of Home like others have said. If not, Southern Living or Gourmet.
ReplyDeleteIf they happen to have The Economist (rare, but it happens) I'll puruse. Other than that I'll pick up a LIFE special or commerative issue. That's all.
ReplyDeleteBefore I started reading CDAN, I would glance/peruse thru People Mag. I thought they were a trusted source.
ReplyDeleteI glance at US Weekly/OK's covers, occasionally the National Enquirer. And smirk.
The craptastic ones! I love the Globe where they say the world is going to end each week. I don't like how Star looks so glossy. I still look at the National Enquirer.
ReplyDeleteI glance at the decorating magazine covers and snicker at their thinly veiled Communist propaganda....
