For a swimsuit model, Kate Upton has a terrible shape. She's straight and blobby at the same time. Granted, she looks better than me. But I'm not getting paid for my supposedly hot body, either.

Gaga isn't without makeup in that picture. She clearly has something on the eyebrows and is wearing blush and a lipstick/gloss. She just doesn't have heavy eye makeup on.

Her body reminds me of mine at her age (I SWEAR---I'm a tragic 'butterface' with hot bod genes), and I ate like crap and never, ever exercised---so I looked tight but was NOT. But with the bad eating, you get 'bloopy' from sodium, or constipation, or whatever. Every tummy-ache shows when you're fat-free.

Not only do they look alike, they typically wear about the same amount of makeup so they can go into character instead of owning those mugs.
Layna Day, yes a young woman is still a real woman BUT in the context I was speaking about, she is not qualified to play an unmarried women in her 30s who is struggling with all the things that go along with that, namely body, dating and finding herself issues.

ReplyDeleteI like the Gaga picture--she's not traditionally pretty, but she is very striking, and if she leaves her face well enough alone (no plastic surgery or Botox, damn it!), she'll age in a way that'll be much more interesting, and probably much more attractive, than blandly "pretty girls" who fuck up their faces and don't develop their characters at all, but rely on being pretty to get anywhere in life. (Although I might make the brows a teeny bit lighter...still, though, it strikes me as very '20s/'30s, esp. w/the flower and drapey dress.)

ReplyDeleteI am reading these comments after a very long day at work and what strikes me is how many people are talking about women's looks--their bodies, their faces, their weight. It's kind of disturbing. I am not trying to make some kind of an indictment of the readers here, but I think that the more we judge each others' physical appearance, the more we feed into the idea that women's bodies and faces need to fit into a certain type to be attractive (without a puffy middle in their body, with a face that is "perfect," etc). I know this is a gossip blog and I fully expect to be blasted for this, but I just feel a need to comment on the zealousness with which we are judging these women's physical appearance.

There is nothing natural about this world. I don't want to be critical about things, but I think celebrating these people is hurting the young girls and women of today....

Doesn't everyone realize that beauty is subjective and for every gorgeous girl out there someone else will say 'meh' Regardless of how conventionally attractive someone is, they won't appeal to everyone. Why do we have to prove someone is or is not attractive? I don't love looking at Brad Pitt but I know he's not ugly.

ReplyDeleteJennifer Lawrence is not malnourished. She's very fit--training for the Hunger Games was grueling. I find it just as problematic to criticize women for being thin as for being fat. I think she has a great body. Not saying she could be Bridget Jones, however.
ReplyDeleteKate Upton looks good here, but I'd never noticed her legs. I have her body type: long, thin, thick waist, and thin legs (not as skinny as hers though). I was glad that SI chose her as a model. The thing with this type of body is that any weight gain goes right to the waist first. Good incentive to stay fit, otherwise you look like a box.
