The Only Funny Part Of SNL This Weekend

You would think with Jonah Hill on the show, that SNL would have been really good this week. With the exception of the opening monologue and another sketch where Jonah gets repeatedly hit in the groin with tennis balls, there was not much else to laugh at. Plus, the opening was really more about Tom Hanks than Jonah.

  1. I didn't think this sketch was funny either. My favorite part was the Weekend Update - although even Stefon is getting a little old at this point.

  2. Johan is over rated ...

  3. Stefan! He was cracking himself up, have never seen Bill Hader lose it that badly. He plays a kid on meth SO WELL.

I liked the sketch where Jonah played the six-year-old, jewish grandpa-style. It was too long, and he read right off the cards the entire time, but when he'd stick his hands out and say "I'm SIX" or whatever... it made me smile.

But Enty's right, the episode wasn't very good, I expected better.

  4. The opening with Jonah being all diva was the only funny part. The "tennis balls to the balls" sketch wasn't painfully unfunny -- as most of the rest of the show was -- but I don't think I laughed. The worst was that seemingly endless "Liza Minnelli tries to turn off a lamp" skit. Holy crap was that awful. Beyond awful.

  5. This confirms it for me....old people don't think this shit is funny anymore, but folks under 30 do. I read a lot of recap/blogs about SNL and notice that young people thought it was the best episode they'd seen in a long time, but people closer to my age (40) think it was shit. Except Stefan of course!

  6. Anyone see what Enty just posted on Twitter?
The Jennie Garth/Peter Facinelli divorce rumors are more than just a rumor. Press release imminent.

  7. It was terrible due to the writing (a consistent problem) but he still did better than Lohan I thought.

  9. I C Jonah's stomach stapling has unraveled, he is getting chubby again.

  10. I'm not Jonah Hill fan, but I don't think the failure of this episode was his fault at all. The writing was atrocious.

To me, the only funny sketch was where Jonah was the 6-year-old son out on a date with Dad at Benihana.

    Oh, and Stefon.

  13. I just finished watching the episode and I thought it was funny.

High points - the opening diva video, the ape skit and weekend update.

The 6 year old boy and tennis ball skits were also funny.

  14. I think Andy Samberg is just delicious. And the fact that he's dating Joanna Newsom just makes me love him even more.

  15. No, but now I feel stupid for just posting about how they had been married for a really long time.

  18. I'm surprised Jennie and Peter lasted this long.

Peter fits a lot of blinds around here, but I guess that doesn't mean much.

So, does our boy Ben and he's still happily married. Right?

  19. I'm over 40 and I liked SNL...wasn't too pleased with the Liza sketch, but a similar one was done with Ann Margaret last season, so I assumed it was just a continuation of the "ridiculous movie scenes" theme.

I think you can tell the current cast has a lot of fun together...they always seem to crack up. That, by itself, is why I keep watching.

  21. SNL was painfully bad this week. I had no idea Jonah Hill was so lame.

  22. SNL has been bad for years. Unless I get stoned I don't find the humor and Lord God Almighty how I would love to edit some of this crap. Whatever happened with "brevity being the soul of wit"?

  23. I think my favorite part was in the monologue where they showed that diva vid of Jonah and the gag of his glasses getting smaller while his scarf kept getting bigger- that was SO funny!

Also, I couldnt help but compare him to LiLo and while I noticed they both read the cue cards pretty much the whole time, I think the difference can be found in that 6-yr old Jewish grandpa Bennyhana sketch. While it went on WAY too long, it still showed how good Jonah was as a comedic actor, his timing and commitment to the role was really good. In contrast, Lindsay was reading off the cards and pretty much delivered her lines in a one note way. You could see there was no process between reading off the cards and delivering the role. It was very surprising to see ZERO talent in what was once a promising up and coming actress. Perhaps she's always been all hype and no substance as an actor. I just dont see drugs/alcohol abuse completely wiping away talent. So maybe it was never there in the first place then if she has none now.
