Jeremy Renner's Dog Dies At Baseball Game
Jeremy Renner's 8 month old dog died over the weekend at a baseball game. The dog had been running around and got overheated and no one noticed until the dog started to vomit and and convulse. The dog, who was being watched by Renner's business partner died while Renner's friend went to go get a snack. Umm, as in the dog was vomiting and he went to get a snack or he was gone so long that the dog vomited, convulsed, and died after resuscitation by strangers where he died? Someone needs to really take a closer look at these chain of events. It seems pretty heartless to leave a sick dog so you can get a snack.
OMG....Poor puppy! How long does a dog go without water before it overheats? What a terrible story. I hope the dog had some sort of other defect, aside from neglect.
ReplyDeleteHeart breaking...Just heart breaking.
ReplyDeleteWho takes a dog to a sporting event?
ReplyDeleteGiven that the dog was running around, I'm guessing this was not a Dodgers game. (Also, it's not baseball season yet.)
ReplyDeleteRegardless, this is horrible.
This was a french bulldog, susceptible to heat due to the short nose (same goes for pugs, shi tzus, english bull dogs and all other brachiosephalic breeds.)
ReplyDeleteIt was irresponsible to do anything other than keep the poor dog in a cool place.
As a dog owner of two young cockapoos, this is terrible and I feel for him. You have to know your breeds though - bulldogs do not fare well in the heat due to A. a short snout and B. hereditary predisposition to heart conditions. I doubt there was any intentional neglect here, just lack of education about the breed. The dog should have been given access to water and shade and not been able to run around at will for a duration of time in the heat.
ReplyDeleteThe dog in the picture is a short faced dog, maybe a bull of some sort.
ReplyDeleteShort faced dogs (bull dogs, pugs, King Charles Spaniels, etc) have breathing problems in general and real severe problems cooling themselves. Even the most devoted owners of these dogs loose them in the heat and loose them very very quickly. I would not immediately suspect abuse or neglect.
All that said loosing a pup is heart breaking.
Everyone beat me to it, it's a bulldog, they should never get overheated like that. And it's obvious the dog didn't have water. Terrible.
ReplyDeleteThis is so heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing they were in Arizona for Cactus League games? It's nearly 80 degrees here in Wisconsin, I imagine it's hotter than hell in AZ. Poor doggy.
ReplyDeleteIt was Jeremy Renner's business manager's nephew's little league game.
ReplyDeleteThat's very sad. It might have been parvo or something else that killed the dog. I remember when Oprah's puppy died suddenly.
ReplyDeleteDogs aren't good in the heat, especially those with breathing issues like bulldog breeds (like the French bulldog in the picture).
Stay strong Jeremey and when you are ready to get another doggie- ADOPT, DON'T SHOP! Shelter dogs are great and needs a good family too. I have two and I love them to death.
As already said the short nosed breeds all have breathing issues, and over heating is never a good idea.
ReplyDeletePups like to run, I suspect this was not neglect but a case of lack of knowledge by the friend about dogs in general and French Bulldogs in particular. Dogs need water always available, and shade on a hot day.
It's very sad for Jeremy and I'm sure his business partner feels terrible.
I second what Stephanie said: get your dogs from shelters and rescue organizations, please!!
ReplyDeleteWhy take a puppy out for such a long time in the sun ? I'm so careful in the summer with my dog, I treat her like my baby...but them again she is.
ReplyDeletePoor puppy....
That poor puppy. I feel awful for him. It's very awful to have a dog die suddenly. I don't know if I could forgive someone for that.
ReplyDelete"Business partner," sure. I bet they break up over this. I could never forgive my boyfriend if he killed my dog.
ReplyDeletepoor Frenchie. Yes, I they need a LOT of water, and overheat quickly.
ReplyDeleteThis breaks my heart.
Would not have wanted to be on either side of that call. Sucks to have to make it and sucks to receive it.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the dog, but who is Jeremy Renner????
ReplyDeleteHaaaaa! Cook's innocent comment struck me as funny. (I am not making fun)
ReplyDelete@ Cook--he is a (now/lately) famous actor who was in the movie The Hurt Locker and IIRC was nominated for an Oscar last year for the role.
Lots of CDANers are big fans.
Cosign what everybody else says. French bulldogs (and all the other brachycephalic breeds) are specifically bred to have smushed in faces that makes it difficult for them to breath under normal conditions. Obviously physical activity in the heat is going to exacerbate this problem. Typical problem of people buying a breed that they think is cute and not doing the research about the hereditary problems these dogs possess...
ReplyDeleteClassic example of why all my dogs are mixed breeds-- they do not have these same type of problems. We have 2 mutts (~7 and 9 years old) that have never had a problem. I wish people would do their research before they go out and buy a dog-- because I'm the one that has to euthanize these poor dogs that are afflicted with hereditary conditions when the owners refuse to pay for treatment. Meanwhile perfectly healthy dogs are euthanized at the shelters daily because they are "mixed breeds" and most people view their "pure-bred" dog as some sort of status symbol. I could vent about this issue for days.... But I won't ;)
Long time reader but never commented but had to in this case. Why is anyone showing sympathy to Jeremy? He's an idiot! If you get a dog breed read up on it! You can't take those type of dogs outside on a hot day longer than a few minutes. Especially a puppy that will start running around and being active. Shame on him! That poor dog...
ReplyDelete@mo pie, you took the words right out of my mouth!
ReplyDelete@Simona, he was out of town and his business partner was watching the dog. He may not have known that the guy would take the dog out and let him run around. Although granted, a heads up wouldn't have hurt.
ReplyDeleteI also am a huge proponent of getting your pets from shelters and rescues. If you insist on a purebred, research the crap out of potenial breeders, and NEVER buy from a pet shop!
I feel so sorry for that puppy!
ReplyDeleteA lot of animals suffer in such high heat, and those kinds of dogs even more so.
How come he didn't notice the dog becoming increasingly uncomfortable?
@Cook: Renner is the useless character in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:4,he was nod twice ,he acted in THE TOWN&THE AVENGERS and he's in the lead in next BOURNE movie
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so mad. I have a bulldog...you have to know what your getting into with those breeds of dogs. I'm tired of people getting them just cause they are fashionable and don't know how to take care of them properly.

ReplyDeleteI read about this on another site yesterday and I'm still mad. You do not take brachiocephalic dogs like Frenchies, Pugs, English Bulldogs, and Bostons out in the sweltering heat and just let them run. With a puppy it's even worse. We've never had any issues with our dogs because we don't put them in situations that exacerbate their breathing issues. In the summer my Frenchie is in the cool basement and always has access to ice water.
ReplyDeleteThis was an inexcusable and completely preventable death. You need to do your homework before you buy one of these dogs.

ReplyDeleteNot to be a grammar nerd-- but they are usually called "brachycephalic" breeds, not "brachiocephalic." Brachiocephalic (in medicine) refers to specific arteries or veins in the chest region. Brachycephalic refers to breeds with short, broad faces. Just to clear it up for anyone who decides to google or do research on these types of dogs
ReplyDelete;-)
Why would you bring a dog to a game anyway? Do they really think it would have a good time? Some people are just idiots. If you don't want to leave your pet alone, send him to doggie daycare. If you outside want time with your pet then take him to a dog park. I don't think this business partner is going to be a popular guy for awhile. Poor puppy! :(
ReplyDeleteI believe he's owned this breed before, and this is not his first French bulldog. What a tragic situation.
ReplyDeleteTo the poster who didn't know who Renner is, Google/ImDB is your friend :) Oscar nominee (twice), impressive resume, about to restart the Bourne franchise, and in the summer's expected blockbuster, The Avengers.
Everyone is right - educate yourself on the breed before you get a dog BUT the guy was dogsitting and probably had no idea about the head suceptilbility aspect. I've dogsat for people and had some unfortunate things happen (albeit never a death) and the guilt is horrible, I feel bad for the the dog, Renner, and the business partner. All around shame.
ReplyDeleteAwful. I hope this is widely publicized, however. This happens more than people realize. Dogs need shade and water, people!
ReplyDeleteJR also had a TV show that ABC canceled. It was very good and I bet they felt so stupid since he was nominated for an oscar right after they did it.
ReplyDelete@MommaBear I'm with you as the owner of an English bullie we are constantly on guard when the weather cracks 80 for her (and our old guy, RIP) getting overheated. We don't leave the house for if its warm "bulldog adventures" without cold water and a portable bowl and monitor her very carefully because it is such a risk. I have always liked Jeremy Renner but it's unacceptable to own this kind of animal and not realize their smushy faces/being bracheocephalic makes them extremely vunerable to fatal heat stroke. At the same time my heart goes out to him and his business partner because its so so hard to lose a dog, I can't imagine how hard it would be if you were responsible for the dog's death, but at the same time, that's the key word: responsible.
ReplyDelete@RQ so nice to see you! You have been missed!
Poor dog. :(
ReplyDeleteThis kind of thing pisses me off. Why take the dog in the heat when that breed is notorious for getting easily overheated? I get equally as ticked off when I see people bring their dog with them when it's even remotely warm and leave them in the car. Even with the windows down you don't know what could happen.
Really sad about the dog. He didn't belong at a ballgame. But the term "business partner" makes me wonder if he's in a more than "business" relationship with this guy.
ReplyDelete"business partner"?! this sounds like a random although sad story that was spinned to prepare him coming out...
ReplyDeleteNo sympathy for either of the humans -- lots of grief for the dog. What worthless human beings. I can't say much more or I'll be banned.
ReplyDeleteDamn, damn, damn. If you MUST have a purebred, do the research to learn how to properly care for your animal. And just as a responsible parent wouldn't leave a child with known [health] problems w/a caretaker without letting the person know about any possible problems, you don't leave a puppy/cat/guppy w/o leaving instructions re proper care and potential problems.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure his boytoy comforted him.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read of Renner's loss of his child....they ARE children to their owners/parents don't cha know. Why would Renner be attending an alleged Little League game w his "business partner" anyway?
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't attending the game. He's filming the new James Gray movie in NYC.
ReplyDeleteAlso, does anyone know his actual "status"? I always hear that he's gay, but I live in H'wood and know that he picks up women a lot. My thoughts were that he's actually bisexual rather than gay. Thoughts?
