Jake Lloyd Quit Acting And Never Turned Back

Despite his mom being a talent agent, Jake Lloyd walked away from acting when he probably could have had just about any role he wanted. The actor, who was 8 years old when he played Anakin Skywalker says the whole experience is something he absolutely hated and that the second he could he walked away from acting and has never been back. Now, that is not to say that he won't got to a Star Wars show and make some bucks signing photographs and autographs, because, he will. I think it is great that he did not try to stay and do something he did not like. If he had, then you never know what would have happened and that hate could have led to drinking and drugs and becoming bff with Lindsay Lohan at rehab.

  1. The only thing I didn't like is that in the full interview he talks about the movie industry as being absolute "hell" and says he left that business behind. The article then goes on to say he went to college and majored in film.
    Um, ok?

  2. I heard he was bad and needed a ton of editing. And that is father was Kit Culkin-esque

  3. Hearing that pretty much most child actors get exploited by their parents and abused by people in the industry I am glad that this boy had a chance to get away from it.

  4. How old is he now?

  5. This kid went to school near me, with a few of my friends. He was a HUGE prick who thought everyone should bow down to him because of Star Wars. He went to a few of the same hardcore shows as me & my friends until he got punched in the face. Never saw him again.

  6. Good for him, especially so because his mother was in the business, and didn't force him to do something he didn't want to.

  8. Good. He was a horrible actor.

  9. Seaward, that doesn't surprise me. I heard on a podcast that he's a huge asshole.

He single-handedly ruined Star Wars. The little shit.

  10. How can anyone tell if he was a horrible actor? George Lucas films are notorious for having robotic scripts. Even Natalie Portman should get rotten tomatoes for her acting in the Star War films, and I am saying that as someone who really likes her acting.

Also Red Tails would have been a better film if George Lucas had nothing to do with the script writing. Horribly flat dialogue did no honors to the Tuskegee Airmen they represented. A shame.

End of George Lucas rant. He's a smart kid for getting out of the acting biz if he had no love for it.

  11. Take the money and run. You want to be on the other side of the camera instead of in front, the by all means.
Personally, I think that JarJar put the nail in the coffin.

  12. Yes the Lucas script was bad. But he was a bad actor. Everybody has tip-toed around that because "he is just a kid" and anyone who wrote the truth was roundly admonished. Bad actor is bad actor. And bad training and bad direction. Look at old episodes of "Dennis the Menace" and even "Leave it to Beaver." Bad acting, bad direction. There have been plenty wonderful child actors. He wasn't one of them.

  14. On the Episode I DVD there was a great documentary about the making of that movie. When they were filming Jake was having trouble with his lines and George Lucas was seen shaking his head like "What have I done." Even Liam Neeson was getting impatient with him. There were screen tests done with other kid actors and a lot of them were pretty good. I never did understand why any of them weren't picked. But my feeling was that George wanted the cutest most innocent kid who could find because the contrast would be more powerful in later episodes when Anakin became Darth Vader. Or he just wanted a Macauley Culkin cute-sy kid to help bring in some of that "Home Alone" money. That might be it too. As for the movie itself, I loved it. Absolutely the best of the prequels and the one closest in spirit to the original trilogy. I think it became the cool thing to do to crap on that movie but I've never hated it. I Still love it. Jar Jar didn't bother me, Jake's acting I'm afraid, did.

  16. I saw one interview with him on youtube and he did not grow into his cute good looks. He was also obnoxious and as arrogant as one ugly fat hasbeen child actor could be.

I don't think he will be making any big waves in Hollywood anytime soon.

  17. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life is this 70 minute review of "The Phantom Menace".

Funny, clever and a must-see for anyone involved in the film industry. It also mocks the hell out of George Lucas.

  18. Maybe the kid had some hidden acting talent that got buried under Lucas's incompetence. Only the most mature actors--McGregor, Lee, McDiarmid, Jackson, Neeson Frank Oz survived that wretched prequel series. Portman is a fine actress (and Hayden is OK)but could not pull a good performance out of that material and lack of direction

  19. Even though he sucked, he was still better than Hayden.

  20. Ugh, Mango, I tried to listen to that, but I couldn't stand more than a minute of that guy's voice. Yuck.

  21. Seaward--you took the words right out of my mouth! I went to school in the same city, and many of my friends who went to Carmel said the same thing.
