This source comes from the driver of a long time A list actor. According to the driver, it took twenty years until the actor actually asked the driver what his name was.
All the people I think of, Tom Hanks, Pacino, etc... I can't imagine any of them not asking for his name at some point. Has Alec Baldwin been around for 20 years and is he A list?
Ok Brando has been dead for like 10 years, and Jack Nicholson? The one that had his driver stop on the street and share his booze with a bum? I can't imagine him being so pretentious he doesn't know his driver's name after 20 years.
Baldwin's been around for at least 25 years and he's A-list, for sure. I can see this being him. There was a blind thought to be him not too long ago about an A-lister who goes to great lengths not to come in contact with "regular people".
One time he came to London for an awards show and struck a conversation with his taxi driver. The driver asked him to "give me a mention" during the acceptance speech if he won, and he did. His name was Dave, btw.
I don't think it's Alec Baldwin. Didn't he live in LA for a long time? If he had the driver move with him, I reckon his name would have come up at some point. Also, he hasn't always been A list. There were some career ups and downs.
Despite the hilarity of Miss Cool's response, I don't think Morgan Freeman is a bad guess at all.
For some reason I'm thinking someone who has the same driver, not uses the same car service, for 20 years probably lives in LA or in suburban NY (Greenwich County, Long Island, whatever) but not in Manhattan itself. Is that wrong? For that reason and also for the fact that I don't think Alec Baldwin has been rolling in cash for 20 years, I don't think it's him.
Long time A Lister.... Clint Eastwood? Harrison Ford?
I have no idea who that could be. its hard to believe that someone could be so narcissistic, but I guess I should believe it.
people should always be nice to drivers. I heard ted turner tell a story (on tv not in person) of how he went to russia many years ago and he engaged the driver in a discussion and etc. I don't know if they kept in touch or not, but the driver never forgot what a good ol' boy ted was. and, that driver turned out to be vladimir putin, who would later rule russia, so there you have it. the red carpets (no pun intended!) got rolled out when ted came back to russia once putin was in power.
BTW, I love London cab drivers. On a trip there I was having a bad day, and really depressed; I got in a cab and the guy insisted I sing "Bare Necessities" from the Disney "Jungle Book" with him -- sure enough, I felt better when I got out 20 minutes later!
Aw Kim you beat me to it. He and his wifey I believe are the answers to some blinds on here where the couple is horrible to their help, such as on "cleaning day" when they fire their help before the help goes on vacation.
For some reason I'm thinking Brando.
ReplyDeleteJack Nicholson
ReplyDeleteTell me that A list actors aren't self-absorbed, please! DAMN

ReplyDeleteWhat about Hoffman? I will shut up after this one!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Hoffman, he seems to have a reputation for being really nice.
ReplyDeleteMorgan Freeman.
ReplyDeleteI am laughing at myself for that one.
This is impossible to guess. There are so many names and no clues.
ReplyDeleteDoubt it's Pacino. For years his rep in NYC was renting assorted Rent-a-Wreck cars and riding in front w/ the driver. Plus he's just a regular guy.
ReplyDeleteMs Cool, I'm laughing right along with you.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Alec Baldwin.
ReplyDelete@Ms Cool - just what I needed thanks hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI don't think it can be Dustin Hoffman.

Miss Cool, I wanted to post that same answer myself when I read this, but you beat me to it. Well done.

I read this and thought, huh? how is this a blind? Wouldn't it be just about anybody?! How is there not more than one correct answer?

Kim -- *very* interesting choice.

ReplyDeleteVery cool story, @annabella!
ReplyDeleteThis screams Denzel to me
ReplyDeleteThis blind, leaving out the A list, describes 1/4 of the rich in this country.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same, Ms. Cool. ;D
ReplyDeleteCool anecdote, Giulia. :)
Someone NY-based. People in Los Angeles rarely have drivers, especially men.
ReplyDeleteKim, I think you've got it. Michael Douglas, of course!
