Apparently It Is Celebrity Religion Week

For the past week it seems like every celebrity has had something to say about Jesus or church and it is kind of turning into a religious war minus the bombs and guns and the killing that people do to justify their particular religion. You know because it says in every religious manual that you have to kill. Right there on page one of every book.

Anyway, Kirk Cameron and Patricia Heaton were there on the right though Patrica Heaton has since apologized for her remarks. Kirk Cameron never apologizes and says he is the victim of hate speech and hate crimes now. Miley Cyrus even got into the act. Usually she is all about loving Jesus but she got some really good pot this week and was having deep thoughts or someone told her a deep thought. Yeah, lets go with the someone told her a deep thought theory. Yeah, we should also discount her parents being the ones giving her the deep thought.

Miley Tweeted a photo of Lawrence Krauss who she probably had not heard of until bong #3 and then she said, “You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded ... So forget Jesus. Stars died so you could live."

The reaction to her Tweet was not a positive one. Wait until she starts listening to Pink Floyd.

  2. Speaking of Pink Floyd, yesterday was David Gilmour's 66th birthday. Ah, if Enty would post photos of young David circa 1972, he'd made all these Hollywood guys and musicians look average.

  4. I have Miley pegged for being a Dead fan, not a Floyd fan.

And Wright was the best looking of the band when they were young. Gilmour was too baby-faced.

  5. "We are stardust. We are golden. And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden."

    Toke up, sweetheart!

  6. #1- technically she is right. I found this online:

99% of the human body is made up of 6 elements: Oxygen (65%), Carbon (18%), Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, and Phosphorous. Since stars made every element except Hydrogen, then we humans are made from matter that was created inside stars. In fact, most objects other than stars in the Universe are made of stardust.

#2. Before anybody else gets into the whole freedom of speech thing, when defending Kirk Cameron, I just want to say that the LGBT community, on average, has a 30-40% suicide rate attempt. These people ARE reading/watching/hearing when people in the media like Kirk Cameron, say such things about them being unnatural and other detrimentally negative things. In this way, his 'free speech' homophobic rant is doing harm to the well-being of an entire group of people. When that is the case, I will never condone that kind of free speech. period.

  7. It makes me think of the scene from "Animal House" where they're all sitting around with Donald Sutherland's professor, smoking pot for the first time.

  8. Yeah...I think there are far more important things to focus on in the world than Miley's pot headed tweets. It's like cyber trolls. If you ignore them, they go away. Ignore Miley and her tweets.

  9. Huge sigh and eyeroll Enty,

I do not support Patricia Heaton or Kirk Cameron's comments. Rush Limbaugh totally deserves what he gets for his comments too. But why will no one hold Bill Maher responsible for the nasty names he calls women when he is on the road with his band roots. Granted I have no love for Sarah Palin or Michele Bachman, I support none of there viewpoints nor would I ever vote for them.

But why is it ok for him to call them the C word and other in his bands songs. I do NOT accept that they are public figures as any sort of answer. It is simply not acceptable. Civility should apply to both sides of the political fence. It would be nice to see someone call Bill Maher out on this, but I guess it is ok when he does it because he donates to the POTUS's superpac.

  10. I doubt she was trying to be controversial. My teen has a few friends who added me on Facebook (?wtf!) and some of them seem intent on showing how "deep and mature" they are by posting lyrics that they either don't understand, or don't realize how people are going to take it. My favorite was one who posted Blister in the Sun lyrics. She died when my daughter pointed out what the song was about.

  11. That Patricia Heaton is a surprisingly insane wackjob, no? I knew she was an idiot, but wowzers. Total wowzers.

  12. Bill Maher has been held accountable for his words. He lost his Politically Incorrect show on ABC in 2002 when he said the terrorists were brave for flying into the World Trade Center (paraphrasing).

So lets not act like Bill has gotten a free pass. And Bill isn't advocating hate and oppression. He is pointing out stupidity and the abusurdity of these men and women both left & right wing.

@BigMama, I have a few younger "friends" and even though you don't recognize the song, you can always tells it's a copied and pasted quote because everything is spelled properly and has punctuation.

But it shows how deep they are. Ugh.

  15. What did Patricia Heaton say? I'm too lazy to google.

  16. Why would ANYONE pay ANY attention to what Kirk Cameron says? Ii mean he is no oracle of wisdom!
I love Patricia's Heatons work, but not her misguided rants.

  17. I'm going to say it again, Miley looks like Cousin Vicky from Vacation.

Yeah, her quote shows her age and perhaps her soberness. I'm not saying her belief does, she just sounds stoned and young.

  18. there is more spiritual truth in MIley's potheaded ramblings that any thing coming out of Kirk Camerons mouth.

People like him are why I am boycotting all the major religions out of moral and ethical reasons/

Christanity - Homophobia, sexism and priests raping kids.

Islam - sexism, racism, hompphobia and that terrorism thing.

Jews - your food just scares me.

Scientology - list is too long to put here.

SO know I declare my religion SCIENCE FICTION

  22. How does Miley's post show her age? I am much older than her, but I agree with her sentiment. Her post actually made me like her some, because I am not into her music or acting.

I absolutely despise Kirk Cameron. The hatred he spouts is NOT "what would jesus do".

I lost all respect for Patricia Heaton and her misogynistic twitter remarks (and her very weak apology). She clearly did not understand the issue at hand, and was overreacting. Her tweets were over the line, and I am glad that Abc stepped up and told her to watch herself.

  25. Kirk thinks people like Neil Patrick Harris are off in a bunker planning the ruination, downfall and utter collapse of society. There are a number of people that think this way but Kirk almost seems proud of having this view. You can tell how pleased he is with himself when he says shit like that.

So yeah. I'm on the loathe Kirk Cameron train too. Fuck him.

  27. OK, I am just an old lady from Indiana, but my God doesn't want to kill anyone. He says,

"Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good".

    Just sayin'

Please don't judge all of us by the crazies among us

  28. I knew Patricia Heaton was a piece of shit when she went after Michael J Fox and his Parkinson's in her efforts to ban stem cell research. But honestly, I was still surprised by the hateful vitriol and outright immaturity and stupidity of her tweets against Sandra Fluke. Never again, she's a big a blowhard as Rush.

You can see the screen-captured tweets here. Of course, they've since been deleted.

  30. Miley gets a pass from me. Patricia Heaton and Kirk Cameron don't. I don't care for either of these colossal hypocrites. Not that my opinion on this subject even matters, because I am an atheist, or more truthfully, agnostic. I do respect Christians and others who live their religion as Jesus or Buddha taught - the religion that includes compassion, enlightenment and putting oneself in one another's shoes - without judging, and I both recognize and respect that fact that there are some really nice human beings who find comfort in religion.

  31. @pr787 - David Gilmour. Where do I start. I love the sublime beauty of his guitar playing. And the weird thing is, growing up, I had absolutely no idea what Pink Floyd looked like. They were a mystery until I checked out, "Pink Floyd in Pompeii" some years ago. Damn they were hot!

  32. hoosierlady: Bless your heart--there ought to be more out there like you. *hug*

BigMama: Damn, I hadn't heard that the lyrics to "Blister in the Sun" qualified as Deep Thoughts to kids these days...considering that I used to hang out w/the Femmes (Gordon in particular) back in the day, well, you can imagine just how hard I'm laughing over here! (Just remember that most of the 1st album was written when he was still in high school, and it all makes sense, eh? ;-)

As for Miley, what the hell--so what if she wants to fire up and wax profound? I'd rather read her saying something like that than other people spouting abuse and hatred, and considering she's at least partly right, well...

  33. Late with the comment, but it's nice to see others with the Gilmour fixation! I used to get so much crap from the ex (who worshipped at the altar of Pink Floyd) for "disrespecting" the band and their music by enjoying the visuals of the Pompeii video, as opposed to being inspired by the music...
