21 Jump Street Sequel Being Made

After just the first numbers started creeping in from Friday, it was announced that Sony is already on board with making a sequel to 21 Jump Street. Yeah, because Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will really look like high school kids two years from now. Maybe they could go undercover as teachers. The thing about this movie is that you kind of have to buy in that it is not like the television show and they just used the name to get Johnny Depp to make a cameo. The show could be really serious and this is more like Old School meets Police Academy but not as funny as either of them. It is however, the perfect role for Channing Tatum except for the role of Hans Garber: The Deaf Mute Stripper. They were going to make it back in the day with Sylvester Stallone but he he kept wanting to be healed and to be able to talk at the end.

  1. I'll pass thanks. The one out now looks too boring to spend good $$$ on.

I want to see this tonight. I love a good, stupid movie. Let's not kid ourselves, there was nothing memorable about the original show save for giving Johnny Depp a launching pad.

  5. @anita_mark - I love a good, stupid movie, too. My husband and I saw it last night and laughed A LOT. I don't care that it is nothing like the series. It was over the top ridiculous and it was pretty dang funny. I liked Channing Tatum. I never saw him before and I thought he did a pretty good job. Not Oscar-worthy, mind you, but really nice to look at.

I think they'll be college students in the sequel.

  6. Them being obviously way too old to be high school kids is the joke.

  7. One of em had better get back to the gym, the other will be upping his Bohemian Grove appearance fee.

  8. My irrational dislike for Jonah Hill is basically equal to my irrational dislike for Anne Hathaway.

Slovenly dude makes a bunch of shitbag stoner flicks for years and years, has ONE good performance in an overrated movie, and now he's our next ~Movie Stah~?

    NO.

I do kinda dig Channing Tatum, though. I like a rock-hard body paired with a nerdy name.

I'll probably Netflix this. Or Redbox it. The reviews have been shockingly un-terrible.

  11. I saw it last night with low to moderate expectations (okay, I was dragged there by my hubby and his friend) and i laughed the whole time. It was hilarious, made fun of how stupid it is that everything has to be remade, and definitely set itself up for a sequel that wouldn't require them being high schoolers. I've never understood the hype about Channing or Jonah, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.

  12. Ida - I have the same irrational Jonah Hill disdain, and it was really amplified after he got that Oscar nod. Him? Really?

I can't stand Jonah Hill as a person after reading an inteview with him but as an actor, I don't mind him. I find him funny.

  14. I saw this last night, it's the funniest film, actually the funniest anything, that I've seen in a long time. And from the way the other members of the audience reacted, I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it immensely. It's a classic for sure.

  15. Just saw it. I was really skeptical, but it's actually quite funny.

  16. Saw it last night, lots and lots of audience laughter almost to the point where you couldn't hear the end of a joke. Have never like Channing Tatum but actually found him and his character much more amusing than Jonah Hill in this movie.

Really want to see it again, and I'm not sure how I feel about a sequel but I'm not surprised they're going to try for one....

Just saw it. Hilarious. I don't think I've ever seen Channing Tatum in anything before, he's very hot.
