It's A Maybe On Sacha Baron Cohen Being Banned From The Oscars

Yesterday I wrote about how Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to attend at least the red carpet portion of the Academy Awards as his new character The Dictator. Well, as expected it rubbed the Academy the wrong way and there were stories yesterday that said his tickets had been pulled and that he was no longer welcome at the event. Pretty harsh. Then, later another tabloid said he had not been banned but that the stunt would be unwelcome. Hmm. Sacha could get nominated someday. He is that good. If he pulls the stunt he is going to have to wait to win though until a bunch of these people die off. Will he back out or not? Hey, at least the red carpet will have some suspense other than whether Brangelina will talk to Ryan Seacrest.

  1. I have to admit that I kind of don't get his humor.

  2. I don't get it either. That said, the Academy needs to get that Oscar surgically removed from its ass.

  6. Borat was okay.
    Bruno was awful!

I still think he's funny but didn't like those 2 movies.

  10. I am anxiously awaiting the red carpet to see if Angie has the strength to walk down without the help of Brad and if she will wear something daring ...like black. ooooooooh, maybe a slinky black dress and some eye popping jewelry. Oh, or maybe she will wear slinky white with eye popping jewelery! oooooooooooo *eyeroll*

  11. Genius. His publicist is laughing his/her ass off on the way to the bank.
    All this advance buzz? Priceless.

  12. Sacha with his stunts is tiresome.

What's the beef between the Seacrest and those two?!?!

  13. I just saw a huge add on Cahuenga for this movie yesterday...it looks like a giant gaudy painting.

  14. Ali G is by far his best character. I've always thought Borat and Bruno were funnier from Da Ali G Show and not so much in the movies. Borat the movie was decent, but Bruno movie was just terrible. I was in college when Da Ali G Show was on, and god I thought Ali G was the funniest shit I've ever seen in my life. I haven't seen it in a few years, but once the DVDs came out we watched them CONSTANTLY. Coming home drunk at 23 is pretty much the best time to watch Ali G...

  15. Sacha Baron Cohen has already been nominated. Best adapted screenplay for "Borat".

  16. @BigMama - It could be something slinky in red with eye popping jewelry and BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK!

  17. Chris Brown gets his ass kissed by the Grammy producers after beating the shit out of a woman, yet a nonviolent entertainer who openly deals with satire might be banned by the folks who run the Oscars.

    That's just lovely.

But both the Oscars and the Grammys have turned into boring, pedestrian shitshows, anyway. Fuck 'em

  19. @BigMama - perhaps silver, then. My vote is for red or silver but I totally agree with slinky.

  20. *yawn* I can't stand his characters. They are crude...but not funny....

  21. If this is a publicity stunt, then it worked and got people talking. Personally, I see nothing wrong. Does the Academy feel that he is bringing down the moral tone of these vaunted wars by promoting his movie? Um, isn't that what the Acadamy Awards is supposed to do?

  22. @Ms Cool - Just once I would like to see Angie show up in something outrageous like the pink tu-tu that one actress wore one year. Awesome! Or maybe a bright blue dress with an actual design to it....hell I would even take the swan dress, just something different!

  23. It's not a funny stunt. I remember and found this BV that was guessed to be Sasha and Isla.

BLIND VICE: This successful actress is totally international. Her heritage is from one country, she was raised in a second, and she frequently acts in the accent of a third. She was initially attracted to her husband because of his talent as a character actor. As time has gone by, though, what was once amusing is now just plain annoying. He is involved in multiple projects right now, becomes totally "method", and gets so immersed in his characters when he is working that it wreaks havoc on their entire household. She is now realizing that she doesn’t want to bring up her children in a household with a man who takes on a strange, new personality every few months, and is telling friends that she is ready to call it a day. Isla Fisher/Sasha Baron Cohen

  24. @crila16 - wow, yeah I can see that as being a pain. As much as I adore Robin Williams, I could never live with him. Those type of artist are over the top and you just know it doesn't end when the come home at night.

Robin Williams is actually very sweet and down to Earth in person. He is not always "on" like people presume. I knew his older half-brother well and like Robin a lot.

  29. I guess I'm the only one who just about died laughing at Borat? Bruno wasn't quite as good, but still better than most of the comedies released each year. And, oh yeah, original!
