Daniel Radcliffe Was A Blackout Drunk

Daniel Radcliffe says he gave up drinking at the age of 20 because everytime he drank he blacked out. That sounds like just about every college student I know. He says that he became a recluse because he did not want to do or say anything he could not remember to people while drinking so did all of his drinking home and alone. See, that is the scary part. He also said that the only way he was enjoying life was by drinking. I think when you are young and drinking is the new thing in your life and you are going out every night you are not usually going to places where drinking is not an option so drinking and going out become synonymous. So, then it becomes I cannot have fun without drinking which can lead to bad results. I don't need drinking to have a good time, I just like drinking. Having to cut back on my drinking for this diet has not been fun. I am down to 5 drinks a night. I savor every drop of them though.

Good for Daniel that he stopped drinking and is enjoying life without drink. Now if he could only learn to act.

  1. There's nothing wrong with DanRad's acting.

    Sod off.

  2. He's comes across as very um... delicate. So really no surprise.

  3. I hope the last line of this post is meant to be sarcastic.

Generally, a shitty actor won't land a gig on Broadway, let alone the lead part in one of the most popular (and critically acclaimed) worldwide film franchises of all time.

Anyway, good for DR. He's got a good head on his shoulders and a long career ahead of him.

  4. I like him but no offense, he was talking about this over a year ago. In fact, I could have sworn you posted something about it. Anyway, he is a very funny guy. One of my favorite "Actor's Studio" episodes was with him.

  7. Things must have been bad for him to have seen (at age 20) that his drinking was too much.

  9. He got excellent reviews from Equus. I like him A LOT, I like the way he handles himself and seems centered after the fame of HP. Go Dan!

  10. My Mom saw him in Equus and said he was excellent. He also seems very dedicated to his craft and I love his interviews. You bite your tongue Enty:)

  11. most 20 year olds are not self aware enough to know that some people just can not drink socially.

Good for Dan for being self aware and knowing he could have a serious problem, and it is a slippery slope down and getting back on top is near impossible (example Lohan).

His acting seems fine to me. Not that he ever has to work again.

  13. I've never blacked out from drinking. Vomited in embarrasing places? Yes. Said incredibly stupid things? Yes. AND I REMEMBER ALL OF IT! *shudder*

  14. I do, in fact, know how to spell "embarrassing".

Fuck. I wish I learned that lesson when I was 20. It took me 13 years to learn being a blackout drunk might not be the healthiest thing in the world. Good for him! And he's a great actor

  17. There was a good five years there (University years) when I would vomit all the time after drinking - I blame it on never getting hangovers. Then one day I just woke up and was like "You know what? This really isn't fun to vomit and feel like shit the next day." Total 180. Youth is a weird time.

  18. @RQ, I had the same realization after a crazy summer studying in London. I'd be much more interested in hearing about his cocaine use. I haven't seen it first hand but have friends in London who have seen him in the bathrooms of pubs.... Wonder if he gave that up too?

  19. If only Lindsay had had the teeniest bit of his good judgment...

  20. I blacked out for an hour at my 21st. I still have some big nights but I really started making better choices after that.

  21. Wow UPL, I hadn't heard of Cocaine use. Interesting.

Count me in the DanRad group, I think he's a good actor who is continuing to grow into his abilities. (Not so sure about the singing gig though). I blacked out once when I was 19, it scared me so much that I made sure it never happened again.

  22. Enty, if the person who told you his acting is bad is the same one who told you Inglorious Basterds was the worst movie of the year, forgive me if I'll make my own decision about that. ;)
