Cindy Crawford Says No To More Modeling By Her 10 Year Old Daughter

Last month, Kaia Gerber, who is the ten year old daughter of Cindy Crawford was announced as the new face for a youth line for Versace. Apparently that has now ended and Cindy told The Daily that Kaia is too young to model and that Cindy will not let her until she is 17. Considering that everyone is giving Marc Jacobs a hard time for using 14 year old girls in his show this week and that whole council for fashion designers thing run by Mugatu does not want anyone under 16 to walk the runways, it seems that Cindy is on board with what is right and there will be plenty of time for her daughter to work as a model.

  1. Uh, but Kaia was going to be a child model, not a runway model. You're conflating two different things. There are always going to be child models.

  2. Did someone retouch that picture? It looks like her right eye is pointed at her nose. Can't stop looking at it.

    1. I know, right!!!! I haven staring at that thing thinking 'How Unfortunate. To haveCindy Crawford for a mom.....and you've got a dead eye...or a crooked face. Almost as unfortunate as Rumer Willis' "Timmy the Tooth" head/face.

  3. That's good to hear. I wonder if her daughter was getting too big for her britches. I know my 15 year old is. Seems odd to let her be the face of Versace Youth and then all of the sudden completely take her out of modeling, like something happened. But, good on Cookie Muncher.

  4. She sure doesn't look 10 YRS old! It's disgusting how kids are being sexualized today.

  5. I didn't really have a problem with this, she was modeling a children's line for children. Not an adult line of clothing. I found this to be no different the a child modeling children's clothes for Sears or another such chain.

  6. Honestly I think this "story" has been put through the wringer until it devolved into this. I don't think Cindy said she cannot model until she is 17 at all.
This is what happened. Kaia becomes face of Versace and the above picture(s) made the internet rounds. A week or so later, Cindy's comments about it surfaced where she said she was thrilled Kaia was chosen to be part of Young Versace campaign (they only cater to children up to 12 years old FYI).
    That story is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2088381/Kaia-Gerber-Versace-ad-campaign-Cindy-Crawfords-daughter-10-makes-modelling-debut.html
Then fast forward a week, and some reporter apparently spoke to Cindy about the same story, where Cindy said: 'There aren't even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl.' and then went on to say: She added: 'But if she's 17 and wants to try it, of course, what can I say?'
'She kind of jokingly said - I'm not even sure if it was jokingly - 'I might model first because you don't have to know how to do anything, but then I want to be a baby nurse.'

She *never* said she is making her stop modeling, she was basically saying there won't be jobs for her until she is 17 or so.

I HATE when stories get whittled down like this. I saw it happen here the other day. A story that was a week or so old, a single comment had been taken from that story and then something that was *implied* from it was the headline here, as though it were news itself. Same thing with this Kaia Gerber story.

  7. I can't get over the black socks and sandals. When did that look become fashionable?

  8. Something must have happened, if she was announced as *the new face for the youth line* it implies that a contract was signed.

I think a ten year old belongs in school and being with her friends and family, not on photo shoots.

She will be plenty gorgeous when she is seventeen!

  9. I think she couldn't believe the heat that came from this...but she made a good decision.

  10. She allowed it to begin with - It would be unlikely Cindy was not involved in this shoot to begin with. So now she changed her mind about the appropriate age to start modelling? Well to me it sounds like image control - she noticed the bad reactions and she adapted in order to look good. She seems more concerned with the image of herself than the age of her daughter.

  11. Yeah...of course she thinks Kaia is too young now. Because of all of the critisim and backlash. If she really had thought Kaia was too young, she wouldn't have let her do it in the first place. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Kaia modeling...as long as its for age appropriate, tasteful and conservative clothes for children. Think Sears catalog...Old Navy...Gap. There is no need for a 10 year old to look like an adult and wearing a short skirt. That's the part that was ridiculous.

  13. Princess, that seems to be what all "news" sources are doing these days - picking out some tiny bit they can turn into big drama. It's pathetic. Even NPR is going for the sensationalism: "Are you mad about that? You must be angry! Come on, tell us how upset you are! Everyone call in and share your rage!" Not all the time, but enough to be disturbing. Forget the "liberal media," the real problem is the "dumbed down and sensationalist media." Jon Stewart's clip on how the international news magazines have dumbed down covers for the US audience is so disturbing. I'm guessing Enty got this story from the Huffington Post, which is one of the worst offenders.

Back on topic, maybe Cindy decided to send her to the 'School for Kids Who Can't Read Good' instead of having her model?

  14. good.

let the kid be a damn kid. It's not like they need the money.

  15. Princess, there are plenty of child modeling jobs out there---just not 'Cindy Crawford's daughter'-level child modeling job (i.e. Haute Couture).

(I don't disagree with you about some stories/quotes being skewed & taken out of context, but I do think this is the hidden subtext of Cindy's quote.)

  16. Cindy seems like a good mom.

  17. I can't believe no one agreed with EmEyeKay about the eye! It's all I see when I look at that pic. I don't remember it being like that the first time I saw the pic so I wonder if someone messed with it. All I can think is what a wonky eye!

  18. I agree with EmEyeKay about the eye. It was all I could look at when the photo first came out. The other thing was how short the skirt is on her. If she stood up straight it would be even shorter. Plus it's almost pulled up to her chest area to make it look short.

  19. @ Patty - That look never went out of fashion with 75 year old German men.

  20. 10 is way to young to model exclusively for an adult designer label trying to sell adult looking clothes for kids, but plenty of children model for department stores without the implied sexual tone in the picture above and I would have no problem seeing her in those ads as long as it does not interfere with her childhood.

  21. Didn't Cindy say she was proud of her when the photos first were published?
