Call Your Ex Anything You Want Online

A federal judge ruled yesterday that if you feel like trashing your ex on a dating site or some other online forum then you can have at it without much fear of repercussion. Former Court TV analyst, Matthew Couloute had sued two of his exes because they had gone on a dating site and called him a liar and cheater and scum. He sued because when you Google his name that is what comes up first. The judge said that in the context of the site, it is obvious that what they are saying is opinion and not defamation. One of the ironic things about the suit is when you Google one of the women now it comes up that she is sloppy and a gold digger. Sloppy?

    Well, turnabout is fair play.

People have always made negative comments about each other. But now we have a potentially dangerous tool, the Internet, that allows us to express dirty opinions in anonymity--like right here on CDAN. And everyone takes everything at face value. It's a peculiar time in our history.

  4. This sort of ruling kind of sets a precedent. You can get fired from your work if you post something your boss thinks is negative online and they find out about it. Trust me, I know. Now all a crafty lawyer needs to do is present this particular case as a precedent.

  6. on the one hand it is funny, did anyone see his interviews. But on the other it is scary, someones character and reputation can be damaged. Although, I sort of believe what they said about him, he sort of admitted to it.

  7. Maybe this court TV analyst (really?) should have just called a 4th grader who could have told him about the US CONSTITUTION!??

(ya know, and those first few opening words called the 1st Amndmnt.). How big a tool is this guy anyway? Not much of an analyst I'd wager if he cannot discern between libel, slander, and opinion/free speech. Maybe next he'll sue Google? Nice job fucktard.

  10. There actually is a site where you can bash your exes. There is one guy on there whose exes talk about his herpes and snoring problems. I read it and couldn't stop laughing.

  11. They should have a site where you can post about horrible people in general. I know I know then everyone with an axe to grind would be on there but some people are just really bad news & people should be forewarned about dealing with them
