Almost Two Years Later, Mad Men Is Back

It has been so long that Mad Men has actually aired a new episode, I figured this season would actually see them time travel to the present. The only bad thing about this spot is that it features way too much of January Jones.

    SQUUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

P.S. The only REALLY bad thing about this promo is how all the scenes were culled from previous seasons. Matt Weiner keeps his plotlines locked the fuck DOWN.

    1. Me too! Me too! So excited! Spent the weekend re-watching Season 4. I watch this & Walking Dead - they're my "stories" and I don't miss an episode.

  2. If every second of this episode occupied by JJ is balanced with at least two seconds of Christina Hendricks, then I'm good. I speak for Y chromosomes everywhere.

  3. ^you speak for a lot of XX folks, too. Believe me.

  6. I know I'm gonna get flamed for this because people on here worship Mad Men like it's the best thing ever but I have tried to like this show and it's boring as shit. The entire show is about drinking, smoking, and screwing around. Y A W N. And January Jones is such a terrible actress, she sucks any life out of every scene she's in.

Sorry. Just the way I see it. You can revoke my CDAN commenter membership now if you'd like.

  9. @chopchop -- I don't see why anyone would flame you for expressing an opinion about a T.V. show. It's not as if you've expressed any bigotry or insulted someone's grandma. But the show consists of waaaaaay more than "drinking, smoking, and screwing around." Did you watch more than a few minutes of one episode? The writing is pristine, and the set design is absolutely gorgeous. It's pretty much the most literary show on the air, if that's possible.

Personally, I think Boardwalk Empirezzzzzz is the most dull thing on T.V. right now, and people shit their pants over THAT show.

And I LOVE Downton Abbey, but it's basically just a glorified soap opera. It's critically lauded because it's a costume drama with posh accents.

*shrugs* It's all subjective. Who cares? Just let those of us who adore it be as excited as we want.

  10. Never got into this show but I'm buying a treadmill and I am going to need seasons of something to watch while I'm on it...*L* So I might have to give it another chance!

  11. @chopchop - every season has gotten better. Season 4 was amazing. I just watched it on Netflix to prepare for March 25. And I guess it's great for me since Jon Hamm is on my top 5 list. The only thing that could make this show better is if they hadn't killed Ida. Right, @Ida???

  12. March 25. Wheee! I have been watching old seasons on Sunday mornings, and can't wait for the new season to start. The promo team deserves a medal for keeping MM in the limelight for nearly two years. Most shows would have lost their rabid fan base over that time.

  15. Matthew Weiner won't show anything new because he is a fanatic about spoilers getting out. He'll drop one now and then or seems to occasionally sanction one of the actors giving out a tidbit, but he tries to control that to the nth degree.

Re: January Jones, well each of thse clips focuses on one character and then there is an overall clip with the different characters. The debate seems to rage on as to whether or not she is a good actress. I think people forget how brittle and childish the character of Betty is supposed to be and January Jones seems to disappear into the role. I haven't seen her in anything else to really compage, and so I will reserve judgment.

Mad Men is an acquired taste. Some don't really care for the subleties and just notice the obvious thesmes or smoking, drinking etc. To each his own.

Personally with this day and age of obvious, obnoxious in your face TV shows, I find MM to be a refreshing change of pace. I am counting down the days until the premier.

  16. I like Mad Men, although I kind of forget what happened last season since it was like 33 years ago.

But since Ida brought up Downton Abbey, damn - wish that show was on 24 hours a day 7 days a week!!!

  17. I take the over-the-top smoking, drinking, etc., as humor.

@Lurky, I feel the same about Betty. That's her character, and I've seen her in nothing else for a comparison, either. She's my favorite repressed female on TV. Loved it when she had the gun and was shooting the birds - didn't she have a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, too? Perfect.

  18. @Ememkay,

That was classic crazy Betty ;>. I hope we get treated to more of that soon!

  19. Of course, the "Don is Back" teaser is the best, but honestly, "Pete is Back" is a good one, too!

    COUNTING THE DAYS!

  20. Betty is one mean lady>>> she is cold as ice!! love her.

She reminds me of a neighbor I used to have the lady was beautiful but mean as a pit bull.

  21. I love this show! It's perverse, outrageous and demure all at the same time - nothing else out there is like it and I can..not..wait.

As for JJ - I'm with @LUrky and @emeyekay. I think JJ character is what everyone hates - because Betty IS an immature, twisted, bitch which is what makes it so great! Plus, come ON there has to be some back story (her creepy father??!! as hinted during her therapy sessions). You KNOW there were women just like her character back in the day and it's interesting to see how she's playing her life out.

This show doesn't just come right out and tell you everyones story, it's patient and gives you small reveals and peeks into each character that you have to wait to unfold.

  22. I can't wait! I guess I'm one of the few people who really likes the complex character of Betty.

I love Betty. She's horrible but let's face it, they're all horrible in one way or another. But my God that woman is beautiful. I LOVE the ice queen look and no one does it better than her. She's so stunning, I can watch that trailer over and over again.

I just wish we got AMC in HD.

  24. Not to single you out, Little Miss, because a bunch of people have done it, but what is up with people putting their links in their comments? It's annoying to have spam like that. Maybe Enty could do another "promote your own stuff" Your Turn where it would be appropriate to post links.

  25. AMC runs the old seasons every Sunday morning, for those of you who need a refresher.

  26. @Mooshki -- google that site she posted. :-) You'll see that LMSAM isn't spamming us. But I *do* agree -- that shit is typically super annoying.

And count me among those of you who love Betty Draper and her frigid Grace Kellyesque perfection. I honestly cannot picture any other actress in that role. I think January has nailed it, and her character gets more complex with each episode.

My favourite look of hers was when she went to Italy. And I loved when she was horseback riding. WASP perfection.

  28. My favorite Betty Draper outfit will always be the Sad Clown dress from "A Night to Remember." That thing is swoonworthy perfection.

  29. I started watching MM right after I watched all 4 seasons of Breaking Bad. Probably not the best idea.

  30. Thanks, Ida, I missed that the link was actually related to the post! My apologies, Little Miss! I just have a bug up my butt right now.

I think January is perfectly cast as Betty because she isn't actually "acting." She is a brittle bitch in real life.

  31. January Jones is meh, but Betty rocks! I love her! I can't wait for this to start. YAY!

  32. I think January Jones as Betty Draper is fucking fantastic. There. I said it. I don't give a shit if it's an unpopular opinion. She owns that role, IMO. All the women on this show are amazing.

I just watch this show and am amazed that my grandmoms, mom and aunts actually grew up during this time. To be a woman during this time period had to suck ass. But, as my sister pointed out, "The parties look amazing."

    Betty in Italy - FABULOUS.

I can't wait for this to come back on. Yay!!!

^This is what I think too, although I'm not sure how far off the all of it really was?

Remember the episode from season 2, when the Drapers empty their picnic lunch/trash onto the roadside? I died laughing b/c it just seemed SO absurd.

I LOVE the fashion on the too. I tried to emulate Joan for Halloween and failed miserably (although the pen necklace was a hit).

  34. I'm a late comer to the Mad Men game. I just started watching like maybe 3 1/2 months ago. I know everyone usually swoons over Don Draper/Jon Hamm but I love Roger Sterling/John Slattery. Which is odd because I'm not usually one for older man crushes. There's a first time for everything right?

And I cannot wait for March 25th!
