Today's Blind Items

It turns out this allegedly innocent NFL quarterback might not be so innocent after all. One of his admirers and fellow celebrity was overheard bragging the other day that she had no problems getting the quarterback into bed.

  2. This has to be Tebow. He is a bachelor, so go on with yourself, Tebow. I'm sure Jesus could give an eff.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh, this is obviously meant to be Tebow. But really, I could see a celebrity either joking about this, or stretching the truth to impress her friends.

FWIW, he's a bachelor, so no biggie if he slept with someone. Just as long as he isn't going to be a hypocrit about being a virgin.

  4. Tebow pings like crazy so it can't be him unless he goes both ways.

I don't think Tebow really talks about his supposed virginity. Only when someone asks him does he say he's waiting until marriage.

If he's having sex, that's his business. He's single and in position to meet a lot of good-looking people. It stands to reason that he would at least have that kind of fun with someone he's dating.

  7. This had better be that little nerd Tebow!

  8. Yep, who else is supposedly innoncent but him.

  9. I don't care if he's getting his freak on or not but it sounds like the bragger was joking, especially since it was an admirer. If it wasn't a joke, so what.

  10. Yall wish it were Tebow. It appears that the entire media is smacking their lips wishing for him to fall. I find that very disturbing coming from a society that apparently worships wife beaters, adulterers, dog killers, and criminals. Other athletes have offered up their thanks to god. I really don't get the Tebow hatred.

  12. Go on with your bad self, Tebow. Someone should be enjoying that body of his. Damn is all I can say about that boy!

  13. txtommom, I so agree. I am not a religious person, and in fact I dislike religion A LOT. However, I also dislike hypocracy a lot. So many people who claim to be very open minded and anti-bullying sure go out of their way to bully Tebow and rag on him every chance they get. I doubt that Tim and I would have much in common were we to ever meet, but I do not think he has been treated fairly in the media. If he were a devout Muslim, no news organization or comedian would dare make fun of him, lest they be insensitive. If he were openly gay (for the record I do think he's gay, and feel bad for him for being raised with a belief system that is probably going to make him miserable for the rest of his life) instead of openly a virgin, everyone would talk about how brave he is. I'm not a Christian, but I don't see why being one is such a horrible thing. He seems to be a good man who spends a lot of his time and money doing good work. I know he is adamently pro-life, but again, even though that isn't how I feel, it is not a crime. I don't think that he should be mocked for his beliefs especially by people who claim to be against bullying.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Someone needs to look up what the word bullying actually means. It''s one thing to have beliefs and another to suggest that God or Jesus have a vested interest in your sports career.

The one thing that makes me think Tebow being innocent isn't an act is that the guy was at the U. of Florida 4 years. No one has come forward to suggest him doing the horizontal mambo. And someone coming forward now will seem suspicious.

I'm with nolachickee, though: the guy's body too good to pass up! Can't lie, he's sorta hot.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think it is common for people to look for the chink in others armours. It's not like Tebow is a preacher telling people how to live but rather showing what he believes. For people to want to take him down is sad. I don't know anything about this guy so that's just my outside looking in impression.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yah, some people think he got that pose from praying! (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean?)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Redheat he specifially said the opposite. That god doesn't favor athletes. He does not pray to win. I find the belef that he has done so very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. RJ-great post! I am baffled by all of the Tebow hate!

And I have never heard Tebow ever say he felt God cared about his football career. Just the opposite-he simply praises God for giving him the gifts that he has and asking him for the strenght to use those gifts to the best of his ability.

Trust me-neither Tebow nor anyone else thinks God fixes football games!

(That said-I do believe that God sometimes chooses the best ways to send his messages-3:16/316 yards/ .316 percentage??? YIKES!!)

Eh, he's a grown man with a hot body. Let him have his fun. He's not hurting anyone.

  21. the power of prayer is much more powerful than man made weapons. It's the energy, and energy is very real.

And it sounds like someone just trying to knock down tebow. Just as they tried to do w/michael steele

  22. yeah, no devout Muslim in the US has ever been called a terrorist or been told that he and his congregation can't build a mosque. That never happens in the US.

As for Tebow, I don't think it's him that people hate, it's the hype. The machine was turned to 11 for him, I don't follow football at all and I've seen him pop up everywhere. I can understand football fans being tired of hearing about him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I find Tebows posturing annoying but he's free to express himself how he will. There are worse specimens of football players out there. If the guy isn't cruel to animals and is generally respectful to others he gets a pass in my book.

I knew Tebow at UF, I went there. He was innocent. He would go to pool parties and people would swarm him. The amount of attention he got was insane, I actually felt bad that he couldn't ever do anything normal. Girls flocked him constantly in quest for the golden ticket (his virginity). I highly doubt this is real. And no I'm not a Tebow fan, I was more a fan of his predessor!! He was yummy :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think the reason people are in the hate for him is that he's an evangelist, and most it not all of our country's problems are because of the ultra right-wing Christians. Since I'm not a Christian I am astonished at how much power they have, the belief that this is a Christian nation and carry on like we are in the Crusades. AND most of these Christians are anything but Christian in their actions and thoughts!

There is no Christian hate, there is hate for the evangelist's narrow-minded intolerant views.

That said, the majority of my friends are Christian since the majority of the country are, and I have absolutely no hate for them. One of them is the best person I have ever knows, in every way, and she is a true Christian with love, compassion, and tolerance.

So I've got no problems with Tebow, he's allowed to believe as he does, even if he prays on the field he's not rubbing my face in it, I wish him well and hope he walks the walk.

But I think the "delight" comes from the fact that he has embraced being a representative of the evangelists with remaining a virgin until marriage, and if he's stated he will remain so til then, well this is kind of juicy gossip. GOSSIP that's all. If it is in fact Tebow.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Here in Denver, where people are on the lookout for a Tebessiah slip-up, I've heard the contrary to the gossip above. That he's a pretty down-to-earth guy and doesn't girls back to the hotels they stay at before games. So - maybe he's getting it on, but he's not being a douche about it like a lot of pro sports players are. (And, just a note, I am not at all a Tebow fan...)

  28. Anonymous12:11 PM

Whoever this "celebrity" is (and I strongly suspect it's Vonn), she's full of shit. Tebow has been in the spotlight since he was in high school, and no one has ever come forward to claim that they did the nasty with him.
And, I hate to break some of the nasty-minded hearts around here, but he's not gay, either. He wrote very openly about women and his lack of relationships and the reasons behind this choice in his book.
I think that complaining about Tebow and disliking him says a lot more about you then it does about him.

  30. Uh, just because someone thinks he might be gay doesn't make that person "nasty-minded", Texshan. That's RJ's opinion and there's nothing wrong with being gay, so why would it be nasty to put forth that opinion?

In fact, I think RJ's entire comment was quite complimentary towards Tebow, and to get so upset about someone else's opinion that Tebow might be gay says a lot about the person getting upset, too.

  31. FS, I am not saying that being a Muslim in America is without problems or prejudice. I'm just saying that Jimmy Fallon doesn't sing songs about Muslims being terrorists. People aren't taking pictures of themselves facing Mecca and posting them online.

msgirl, I agree with you whole-heartedly. I am amazed at the power of the ultra-right wing. I don't understand where all there political power comes from as most of my true Christian friends are like yours - really good people who don't hate gays or science or the environment. It seems like the hypocrites are in charge. I'm fine with the media going after religious hypocrites!

My point, RocketQueen, is that some people seem to be quite excited at the completely baseless idea that Tebow could be gay, because they think that would be a big eff you to evangelical Christians. You may think that there is nothing wrong with being gay, RQ, but not everyone agrees. Tebow and his family believe that homosexuality is a sin. When you say "there's nothing wrong with being gay," you are imposing your own beliefs and ideals on everyone.
The people who spread rumors of Tebow being gay aren't saying he's gay because they think he is struggling with coming out, they are saying it because it would embarrass his family and faith. And to me, that is most definitely nasty-minded.

  36. Oh wow Texashan...and this is why no one respects today's right-wing "Christians:" because the idea of tolerance is "imposing values" on people?? You know what? I know more kind, loving, gentle people who happen to be homosexuals than I do Christ-like Christians. Gay people have to FIGHT their whole lives for the one thing that makes life worthwhile: LOVE. Tell me why JESUS, of all people, would be anti-love?!

Actually, don't. I've heard the rationalizations for bigotry before and it bores me! Frankly, with all of the kids killing themselves, I'm all for imposing tolerance on the ignorant! We had to do it with Women's Suffrage, Civil Rights, etc., and the bigots cried Jesus while they burned Mississippi and everywhere else a minority had the temerity to demand basic human rights. I don't know Tim Tebow, but HISTORY is why I'm very, very leary of proponents of so-called "Christian values."

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow, Texshan. Guess what...this is a gossip blog and we speculate all the time about people being gay. Not all of us think that's a mark of shame. In fact, most of us don't. It's pretty clear where you stand, I suppose. If you've got a problem with someone being gay or being speculated as gay, that's your shit. And I'll just leave it there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think it's Tebow..not because he's sweet and innocent or that he's God's "right hand man" *eyroll*..I think it's Drew Brees....just to be different :) I mean wouldn't you be shocked?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous2:17 PM

There's a difference between "tolerance" and "acceptance." And LetLove, yes, saying that "there is nothing wrong with being gay" is just an opinion, just like someone else saying "there is something wrong with being gay" is an opinion. RQ doesn't speak on behalf of everyone. No one gets to make unilateral, sweeping generalizations and speak for everybody.
And again, I think there is a big difference between someone saying they think, say, Chace Crawford is gay and saying Tebow is gay. I think many of the people who say they think Tebow is gay are only saying that because it gives them a thrill to think that an evangelical Christian might be in denial about his sexuality.
And RocketQueen, you have no idea how I feel about gay people. Don't flatter yourself that you do.
Once again, I am the bad guy for daring to think that not everyone has to walk in lockstep with many of the people here and believing that people should be able to have their own opinions without being castigated for them. It's ironic how so many are all about open-mindedness ... as long as everyone agrees with you.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ugh. Why the Tebow hatred? Well, mostly because of this endless thrusting of evangelical Christians "testifying" of their values being better than anyone else's in this Nation. And then the unmitigated gall these same people have claiming they are being persecuted.

Really? Try being anything other than Christian in this Nation and I think you will see a whole new meaning to "persecution." Try being a Jew. Try being Muslim. Try feeling with as much surety as some evangelicals have that there is a god that there is not. Then try feeling that if you express that opinion you will be hit with such vitriol and hatred people will actually fervently - spitting at me in one instance, when I was young and still naive enough to express my views on this matter - tell you that they hate you and you are evil. [Holy shit! Really??]

Why do I dislike Tebow? [Mind you.. it is just dislike - not hatred on my part. A dislike akin to looking at a stove coil that is hot and knowing what it will do to me if I touch it.] Because, in my experience, people who are this "out" with their religious view are the ones who will rapidly turn their back on Jesus and condemn me to die and spend the rest of my immortal life in a fiery pit of aviation fuel. So .. ya know .. kinda makes me extremely leery.

My sincere apologies to all the Christians out there I may have just offended. [I really do not want to and I am NOT trying to convert you to my own personal views on the matter.] But do think of how you - or how maybe more devout Christians you know - just reacted to what I just posted and I think you will see why all the Tebow dislike/hatred/gladness that the Bronco's season is over. .. And my apologies for the really long post. I have been thinking about this a lot.

I don't get the Tebow hate either. He's a fine young man, the kind any mother would be proud to have as her son or for her daughter to marry. He's actually a good kid. I just read on the ESPN site a few minutes ago that every game, home or away, he picks someone who has big big problems...kids with cancer, a former high school QB who lost his leg...and flies them and their family to the city in which the game is played, gets them a hotel room, rental car, seats down low on the 30 yard line, visits with them prior to the game, and then spends an hour or so with them afterward, dragging all his teammates and coaches in to meet them, then they walk him to his car and he gives them a big basket of gifts. He thinks this inspires him. It inspires them too - the HS QB is making plans to play again with a prosthesis. Tebow does this kind of stuff all the time, and says it's more important to him than football.

As for the praying...he's not asking God to help him, he's thanking God for whatever just transpired - touchdown, field goal, whatever. And he's not the first player to take a knee after a big play, there have been players doing it for years. It's just that the media decided to make it a big deal this time. It's like they can't believe there is actually a person who practices what he preaches and lives a decent life.

I don't agree with his religion or his views on a lot of things, homosexualtiy and abortion among them, but I respect his right to believe the way he does, and I respect the fact that he is not two-faced about his faith, he honestly tries to live the way he believes his God wants him to live. I'd be proud if he was my son.

  44. Yes, Texshan. Only YOU'RE allowed to tell people not to share their opinions when they disagree with yours. As you do, quite often.
I keep forgetting that anyone disagreeing with YOU is persecuting poor you and your beliefs and should not dare to question your opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  45. If he were an atheist and wrote "there is no god" on his cheeks instead of a biblical quote, would everyone still be peeing themselves with admiration? I doubt it. He's a tool and, most importantly, a TERRIBLE QB. Just terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I seriously doubt Tebow is still innocent. He partied a fair amount at UF, and so did his sister. There are photos out there to prove it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. There is nothing wrong with being gay just like there is nothing wrong with being a woman or being black. It is not an opinion it is fact. To say differently is wrong.
Opinion is political parties, what color looks best on the walls and if Chihuahuas make good pets or not. Opinion requires choice. Race, sexuality or sexual identity are not a choice.
Now back on topic. I hadn't heard of any Tebow hate but if the boy is getting his freak on good for him. God did give us a sex drive after all.

  49. @Anotheramy - I hear about all the Tebow hate, but the truth is, I don't hate on him, and I'm guessing that if people do, it's for the inevitable hypocrisy. If he's getting his freak on, good for him. To be honest, I feel the media caught the ball and ran with this one. So as usual, I blame them and their corporate sponsors for making much adieu about nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Texshan, for the record, I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay. I just think that IF Tebow were gay, it would be hard for him, seeing as how he was raised by evangelicals. My thinking that he might be gay is just a guess on my part because it is hard for me to believe that any straight guy could resist as much temptation as a two-time Heisman trophy winning quarterback of a National Championship football team from the South Eastern Conference (where football is a religion unto itself) would have faced. If he is straight, then good for him for remaining a virgin. We encourage young women to respect their bodies and it is nice to see a young man waiting for the right woman. Sadly, it's just also hard to believe. Our society rewards promiscuous behavior in men. I guess I am guilty of buying into the stereotype of "manly" behavior. Like Rocket Queen said, this is a gossip site and we often speculate on celebrities' sexual behavior. Probably not the highest of intellectual exercises, but I don't feel bad about it because the only people I truly judge are those who force their sexual attentions on others against their will or have sex with kids. Not crazy about cheaters either, but that's really between the parties involved so I try not to get all judgey there either.

"There is nothing wrong with being gay just like there is nothing wrong with being a woman or being black. It is not an opinion it is fact. To say differently is wrong."

Anotheramy, I don't like saying this, because I absolutely believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how unpopular it is, but you are WRONG when you wrote "it's not an opinion, it is fact." It absolutely is an opinion. You are just so dedicated to it that it has ceased to be an opinion to you.

RJ, I respect your ideas in your last post, and I am sure I will shock a lot of people here when I say that I actually agree with a lot of them. For what it's worth, I don't think Tebow is gay. I just think he is very dedicated to living life how HE THINKS God wants him to live it, and has an extremely high level of self-control. And possibly a low libido.

RocketQueen, as I have stated more than once, I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. It's when it's done in an insulting manner that I get annoyed. Also, if you read my posts closely, I don't usually express my own personal beliefs on political topics. I'm often just pointing out that not everyone feels the same way you or others on here do, and that they are entitled to their beliefs, too. That's usually when I get blasted because I am unwilling to participate in the prejudicial circle jerks that go on here.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @texshan
You must hate gay people because your defense of Tebow while calling out people who think he is showcases how you really feel.
I do not dislike Tebow nor do I have a reason to be mean as you stated in your post.
You should reserve your vitriol for this fundy parents who impose their beliefs on him, he will always have to live a lie just to make his parents and church happy, well what about him?
Why can't his family and church just love him for who he is instead if who they want him to be.
I feel really sorry for him, I can empathize because I was raised by fundy parents in a cult and it really screws with your perception of the world and your place within it, I cannot imagine what being gay while growing up would have done to me.
I base my opinion on having watched Tebow's behavior during interviews and press conferences and it's pretty obvious that he is very effeminate, the man pings like crazy and as a straight woman even I can pick it up.

    ReplyDelete
  53. THANK YOU, RQ, Wil, RJ and others for eloquently saying what I tried to earlier.

The fact is, anytime one group is singled out for attributes they are born with and discriminated against, it's not an 'opinion,' it's hatred. We have only to look at Somalia, the holocaust, and the Taliban, etc. etc. to see how that speech leads to MURDER and persecution. The speech comes first, and must be countered and exposed. Period.

  54. I am not a devout Christian but doesnt Matthew 6 specifically implore believers not to profess faith or pray in public but rather to pray in secret and solitude or else you will not get gods rewards. Does it not say that to make a show of it for your own glory is an unholy act. So many actions behaviors and beliefs of todays new evangelists and proselytisers are downright unchristian. Unfortunately i dont think this is tebow, there are other supposedly devout qbs in the league and i think it would be too easy otherwise.

  56. doctorfilth: Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

I believe the verse you are referring to is Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

If you read the context of this passage, Jesus is teaching that do not act one way in public and another in private. The pharases made a big production out of following the letter of the law and lost sight of the intent. Jesus was preaching against hypocrisy. I am sure I just turned off all the anti-Christians.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have been following these boards for about a year. From my view point, there is a strong anti-christian bent to the board. Considering the topic is gossip, that is to be expected. I would ask each of the posters to consider how you would feel if the subject was your beliefs. One of my favorite bible verses is Do unto others as you would have done onto you. Everybody here brings a different perspective which is refreshing to see. Let's just agree to respect each other. I do stand by my original statement that EVERYBODY in the media and a lot on this board are salivating at the prospect that Tebow isn't what he is projecting....which from my view point is very very sad.

    ReplyDelete
  58. And Texshan - In my opinion, you are definitely spot on with you assessment of "I think many of the people who say they think Tebow is gay are only saying that because it gives them a thrill to think that an evangelical Christian might be in denial about his sexuality."

    ReplyDelete
  59. @txtommom, re: Matthew 6:6, and praying in private. I agree with what you said about the context of Jesus' words and not being two faced basically, however there is a context to Mr. Tebow's demonstration of public prayer I'm not terribly comfortable with. He's a major sports star praying for a successful football play in order to win a game and remain a major sports star. That is not the context Jesus had in mind and is quite the opposite actually. I'm not passing judgement. How Tim chooses to pray and for what is between him and God. I'm just making an observation based on what my Christian upbringing taught me - that praying for vain things and worldly honors is an empty and distorted gesture in God's eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. He does not pray to win which he has stated. Tebow has also said god has no preference in sports ...therefore I respectfully disagree with you.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree that Tebow has said he never asks god for touchdowns, which is nice. I could give a rats patoot if he thanks god for whatever he gets but it still doesn't change the fact that if he had Koran chapters on his face or Christopher Hitchens quotes on his face he would not be so beloved. Disagreeing with him or any other person is not persecution or censorship. I seriously want you to think about whether or not you'd think he was so upstanding if he was a Muslim, atheist, Buddhist or Jew. Nothing else about him could be different, but I highly doubt he'd have SO MUCH support if he weren't a "good christian boy!"

    ReplyDelete
  62. Please be good enough to put some thought into your response and give a complete one as I did. What does he pray for in the middle of a major football game just before an important play then?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I admit I don't know much about him, but doesn't he do "The Tebow" when he scores a touchdown? Isn't thanking god for a touchdown basically the same thing as asking him for one?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks Mooshki, I wasn't aware of the particulars. Actually I don't think that thanking God for something is the same as asking Him for something. I have to ask though - does he also do "The Tebow" when he fails to score a touchdown, or just when he does score? If only when he scores, then clearly he does have a preference in sports - winning.

    ReplyDelete
  65. txtommom, thank you for presenting your argument in a rational, non-confrontational way. I obviously can't speak for everyone, but I know at least some of us aren't at all anti-religion, we're anti- Christians acting as though their beliefs are the "correct" ones, and playing the martyr when people ask them to mind their own business. The fact that so many people are trying to get Christian beliefs into school and government makes me sick. As far as I'm concerned, believe what you want, but leave me, my actions, and my beliefs the hell alone. And please, please, please stop acting like you're the ones being persecuted, when you are the very vocal majority. (This wasn't directed at you, txtommom, but at the people I hear from in real life, on tv, and in the news every single damned day.)

    ReplyDelete
  66. phoenix, I think he also does it after every game, win or lose. I'm sure he has good intentions, but the way he chooses to express his faith is very aggressive. If he was just thanking god, he could keep it to his own damned self like most people do. He is evangelizing, plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  67. And if he's going to shove his beliefs in my face, he damned well better expect to get my beliefs shoved right back into his.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, if he does it win or lose, then I believe it's sincere, and I honestly don't see it as "shoving his beliefs in people's faces", because you can simply choose to ignore his personal expressions of faith if you don't share them.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Trust me, I would ignore "Tebowing" if I could, but right now it is completely impossible.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm an atheist who had never even heard of Tebow until that SNL skit and I call bullshit on this one. It's just too convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  71. lol, ok :) Seriously though, I entered into this discussion skeptical of his praying myself, and leave believing him to be a pretty decent guy, all things considered. I kind of doubt that he'd be upset at you for choosing not to publicly demonstrate your beliefs, so I think it's only fair to let Tim be Tim, and see no reason to feel threatened by him.

    ReplyDelete
  72. @ice angel don't forget 31.6% of televisions watching the 4th quarter.

God does indeed choose interesting ways to get out a message. And those who have ears to hear will hear.

Tim Tebow is giving God praise for what He brings to pass in his day. And he's shameless about it. He'd rather please God than any of us incidental bystanders.

To toss just one more Scripture in the mix:

Psalms 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

Tim has some exciting things to look forward to in his life.

    @gsdlover: don't be so sure he's living a lie.

  73. This is not Tebow! The other day, on a different gossip site, there was a story about a NFL quarterback who was cheating on his pregnant wife with a starlet from the Twilight series. The majority believed it was Tony Romo/Ashley Greene. "Innocent" because he is newly married, about to be a daddy and allegedly attempting to settle down once and for all. This blind is about Romo, using Tebow as a way to throw us off. Score!

  74. I don't really think it's Romo, the point of blinds is to make them as obvious as possible without getting sued. I don't think trickery is part of it.

Wow. You post a baseless rumor and have the gall to suggest that a guy who builds hospitals and orphanages in his spare time has been lying about his beliefs and the way he lives his life, with not a shred of evidence to support that. That's low, seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I agree, Ali.

I don't get all the Tebow hatred. Every sports writer who has followed him has tried to prove he has feet of clay, but they all say he is as he appears.

Who cares if he prays before/after, or during football games? It's his life, to live as he wishes, and his prayers hurt no one.

I agree that the comment on Tebow being gay was a schaudenfraude aimed at his Christianity.

  77. Couple thoughts on this:

@LetLoveRule, many Christians are not hypocrites and many are pro gay-marriage just as many Christians were abolitionists or active in the women's suffrage movement. (William Lloyd Garrison, William Wilberforce and Susan B. Anthony were all Christians.) Even most Christians are embarrassed by Pat Robertson and others spewing hate. Castigating all Christians for the bad actions of some is no better than blaming all Muslims for Muslim terrorists.

Tim is a public figure who doesn't make his beliefs secret so he's a convenient target for all the issues people have with American Christianity (and there are a lot of issues). Why blame Tebow because some people say God fixes game scores or that God hates gays?

I think we should save our scorn for obvious hypocrites (Jesus scorned them too) rather than the one guy who is visiting sick kids, raising money for orphanages and raising money to build children's hospitals in the Phillipines. If there's proof that he's a hypocrite or speaking out against LBQT, he's fair game. Until then, let's give the kid some credit for actually doing a lot of good for kids.

  78. @shrevemom2 - Tebow approved and participated in an ad for the anti-gay pro-life evangelical group Focus on the Family.

    ReplyDelete
  79. And raising money for orphanages and hospitals is great, but it says nothing about his faith. UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières and Amnesty International are some of thousands of secular organizations that do the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  80. @Buffcv, that was a pro-life ad. I don't recall anything in that ad that was discriminatory or against gays. This proves he's pro-life, not anti-gay. Does this ad mean he agrees with everything Focus stands for?

We can't base his guilt on the logical fallacy of guilt by association. Otherwise, many of us would be guilty if we had the same standard applied to how and where we work, shop or vote.

The point is, has Tebow said or done anything that is anti-gay or discriminatory to any person? Let's judge the kid based on what HE says and does.

    ReplyDelete
  81. @BuffyCV, I don't think anyone is arguing against great organizations like UNICEF or Doctors without Borders. No one is criticizing them though.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I only hear Focus on The Family news because of their anti-gay stance. And organizations that used to be part of them like the Family Research Council were recently classified as hate groups by the SPLC.

The Broncos refused to participate in a petiton made by Change.org asking for a "It Gets Better" video. Tebow's publicist specifically demanded that the topic of same-sex marriage be off-limits in an interview with the Washington Post. You know what that means.

GSDlover, your post makes no sense. You are assuming Tebow is gay and is having some kind of crisis of conscience without any proof whatsoever. Much like your assertion that I "hate gay people." I've seen countless interviews with Tebow, and he doesn't come off as "effeminate" to me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  84. @BuffyCV, if he's making the topic off limits during interviews, you're probably right.

Still, he's keeping his views to himself in that area. BTW, I'm in PFLAG so I'm not excusing this. But I can't find where he's pushing an anti-gay agenda or even making comments about it. He's not knocking on anyone's door or telling anyone what to believe.

And I still think he should get credit for the good he's doing. I'm guessing most of his accusers aren't donating so much time and energy to charity.

I just think it's hard to call someone sanctimonious and self-righteous without sounding sanctimonious and self-righteous.

  85. I read this entire thread to my Christian aunt last night and after she asked, "Tebow might be gay?" (and me laughingly shaking my head "no, probably not"), she was actually pretty disgusted by a lot of what you wrote, Texshan. Luckily, not all Christians are as intolerant (I know you prefer the term 'not accepting', but po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to) as you are.

Homosexuality has been observed in HUNDREDS of species; intolerance and "non-acceptance" of such in only one: ours. I got a lot of love for the kind Christians in my life (and there are many) but in my humble opinion Texshan, you are simply not a very kind or tolerant person. I've felt so since you referred to calling a transsexual person by their chosen gender as "a courtesy only" and one which you would not indulge.

In the interests of avoiding arguments like this in the future, I will endeavour to skip over your posts from this point forward. Life is too short.

Cool, Rocket Queen. And I will do the same. But first I have to go cry because your granny was "disgusted" by my revolutionary idea that people can have different opinions on things. Apparently an inability to comprehend runs in your family.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Texshan, is your ass jealous of the shit that comes out of your mouth?

    ReplyDelete
  88. @texshan,
My post was quite clear, if you did not understand it then that's your problem.
You took offense at my observations on Tebow even though I said Nothing offensive about him and then you decided to go at it with immature name calling, you do realize this is a gossip board right?
Being gay is not an insult or a bad thing, it's narrow minded views like yours that bring our country down and deny others equal rights.
I also happen to know that this is not your first time being less than empathetic here, I have been reading this board for years and have had the displeasure of reading some of your comments before, I guess the lesson learned here is to just skip over certain commentary.
Nothing personal against you, we just see things very differently.

  89. @RocketQueen You rock! People like you are the type of person who makes society progress towards equality. Not Tex. I appreciate your courtesy and level-headed statements!

Mooshki, not as jealous as yours is.

GSD, your post wasn't clear at all -- you wrote it as if it were an accepted fact that Tebow is gay and closeted. That's never been claimed by anyone who knows anything about him.

I am constantly surprised, though I shouldn't be, how I am immediately ragged on when I try to point out that different people have different morals and ideals, and they should be respected or at least tolerated.

This isn't a revolutionary idea, folks. You are so preachy and smug about being open-minded, but it only extends as far as people who agree with you and share your beliefs. Everyone who thinks differently than you is an idiot, a racist, a sexist, a hag, a shit talker, whatever. The instant I challenge you to try and understand or at least acknowledge other points of view, the knives come out. Some of you are the LEAST tolerant and MOST judgmental people I have ever had the misfortune to come across.

I still don't know what I wrote that was so "disgusting" or offensive. Was it when I wrote that people who said Tebow was gay (without any whisper of proof, and knowing his family's beliefs and principles) were nasty-minded? Was it when I pointed out that many people (not necessarily myself) do think there is something wrong with being gay? That's just reality, people. See, I live in this place called real life, where different people have different ideas. You seem to live in a world where everyone has to think like you do and if they don't, they get bullied. Nice.

And no, this isn't me having a pity party. I could not care less what you think of me. You don't know me. You don't know how last week I wrote a letter of recommendation for gay friends of mine for an adoption we have all been praying for. You don't know how I work trying to offer free birth control and sex education for anyone who wants it, regardless of age. You don't know how many hours I spend working at homeless and animal shelters trying to help those who really need a friendly face. All you see is someone who must be horrible because she says this is a big world with room for lots of ideas different from your own. Because you don't welcome any ideas but your own. You are the real bigots. Am I perfect? Hell, no. But at least I don't think my opinion is the only one that should be allowed to exist.

There will probably be more comments here attacking me personally rather than actually addressing some of the points I've brought up, because personal attacks are the only defense of people who can't debate rationally. I don't care. I'm done with this thread. Many of you are so blinded by your own prejudice that you can't even conceive of a "nice" or "good" person disagreeing with you. That's sad. And stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  91. @Texshan
I think people are annoyed at you because you're finding it offensive that people think Tebow is gay. You are sharing your opinions, but at the mention of him being gay you get very defensive. I don't care if he is religious, or the Antichrist. I find him to be effeminate at times. This has nothing to do with me 'cheering' for him to be gay just to destroy all the christians following him- I just get a gay vibe from him. I honestly couldn't care either way, as it's not any of my business.

You're also ragging on people for making assumptions with no fact. Didn't you just assume that Vonn was the one bragging? Is that not the same thing as people assuming that Tebow could be gay?

Also, how many gay people have had wives and kids while in the closet? I'm sure they could have openly written about their interest in women as you have stated Tebow has. Hell, I'm a heterosexual female and I could probably sit down and write lies about how I am attracted to women but don't act on my impulses, too.

I understand where you're coming from, and why you feel like you're being attacked. But in defending yourself for being allowed to have a different opinion, and complaining that nobody else will budge with theirs, you're doing the same. Also, I think the thing with people thinking being gay is wrong, is an opinion that is hurtful. Saying their is nothing wrong with being gay is an opinion, though it isn't hurting anyone. It's actually an opinion that helps others come to terms with their sexuality. I know that you aren't going to change your mind on your opinions, but don't expect the other posters to either. The more defensive you get, and the more you keep stating the same point over and over, the more attacked you're going to get.
