WHICH beloved ’90s sitcom star has turned into a Howard Hughes-type recluse and germaphobe? The tall actor has plenty of money from his long-running series, but his eccentric behavior has left him lonely and paranoid! Who is he?
My first instinct was John Goodman because of the "beloved" thing. And he's like 6'2. But he still acts alot. Everybody Loves Raymond started in 96 but was on until 2005. So idk if that's 90s or not. Night Court is def 80s though. 84 - 92. Barely 90s.
Seinfeld...he's not tall. And Kramer can't fit the "beloved" description since he's gone off the racist deep end.
The brother actually went on to his own sitcom (Til Death) until 2010
Also, from wiki "Garrett was the grand marshal for the Auto Club 500 on February 24, 2008.
Garrett appeared on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? and played for his charity, the Maximum Hope Foundation (named after his kids). He answered every single question correctly winning $25,000 and walked away with that after being asked to play for $250,000 with the bonus subject being U.S. History."
Lithgow does other things, including art. I think he's also done theater.
I'm thinking Kramer - remember lots of people are assholes and don't care if he went off, or give excuses, or don't even know about his rant. And the cast itself still probably loves him. But his name is dirt and can't get any work which would lead to staying out of public eye and being paranoid that everyone is talking about him. Eccentric is a key word here methinks!
John Lithgow also just did the movie, "New Years Eve", he played the boss of one of the characters. Yes I saw the movie. Yes I liked it. Yes you may proceed to hit me with a 2x4 now. Kramer seems like a good guess. Seinfeld the show made a shit ton of $$. So he could be living off that.
Harry Anderson, from Night Court... 6'4". Lives in the mountains of NC. Moved there from New Orleans after sighting the depression of watching the town try to rebuild after Katrina. That might cause someone to become reclusive.
What about the other guy from "Full House", David (Uncle Joey) Coulier? He tells everyone he is the subject of Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know", btw.
I saw Dave Coulier on tv a few years ago promoting a website that i'm pretty sure was called something like niceguycomedy.com (i could google but...) and it was a place for family friendly viral videos and jokes. It made me sad, I bet Saget made one too many Olsen twins jokes to him!
Anyway... I like the Kramer guess. Have no use for Michael Richards now, but you gotta love Kramer.
The one that came to my mind was Charles Kimbrough (Jim Dial from Murphy Brown). I checked his Imdb and he hasn't done anything since 2003. I always liked him but he seemed a bit odd.
Harry Anderson seems to have vanished. Richard Moll was also a good guess. Brad Garrett is in Vegas all the time and does commercials for local things here too, not him.
It isn't Harry Anderson. He's still doing shows as a magician and comic, in the southern U.S. And he's not really known for being tall, although he is a lanky guy.
I worked on a show with him for a few years. He's an okay guy. Very charming.
from Wikipedia: In July 2007, partly due to the incident at the Laugh Factory club in November 2006, Richards announced that he has retired from stand-up comedy for "spiritual healing" purposes and would be traveling with his fiancée to Cambodia, where they would visit Angkor Wat, as well as more remote temples, on a tour sponsored by the Los Angeles-based Nithyananda Foundation.[17]
Richards is a Freemason and also a 33° member of the Scottish Rite. He has been very active in preservation of Masonic research.[18][19]
It isn't Harry Anderson. He lives in the same town as me, see him out about about fairly regularly. Not really what one would call a 'recluse' but I guess anything is possible.
Have no idea if it fits, but my first thought was David Schwimmer from Friends. Not sure if he would be beloved, but the show sure is. And lots of people loved Ross and Rachel.
^I'm not Schwimmer's cousin, but this ain't him. He directed a movie just within the last year or so about an underage girl being "seduced" online by an older man/predator. It was semi-big news that "Dr. Gellar" of all people was out in the trenches making this movie and promoting an anti-rape, anti-sexual abuse, anti-violence agenda (good for him!!!).
Law and Order isn't a sitcom, right? Because everyone loved the original DA Ben Stone, played by the very tall Michael Moriarty. (The caracter Jack McCoy eventually became well-loved too, but the first season Jack McCoy was on, everyone really missed Ben Stone.) But I think it's old news that he because a paranoid alcoholic recluse convinced that most everything was a government conspiracy.
I'm thrilled to hear that Harry is alive and out and about and working. I always loved his quirky funny humor. I'll still go with Richard Moll, very tall guy. but not lanky, oh well.
Mark Curry from Hanging with Mr Cooper is like 6'5" and pretty much disappeared from the public eye after a freak home accident left him with major burns and in a medicated coma. Perhaps concern over his changed appearance (?), residual pain, and the feeling that one can't be safe anywhere have led him to feel paranoid and be reclusive.
It's not Harry Anderson....I also live in his town & was just talking about him last night. Heard he has a pretty wife, is still doing magic, guested on 30 Rock, is normal/nice but not a recluse.
Tall?? Either Kramer or the brother from Everybody Loves Raymond but after Kramer's racist rant I doubt he is "beloved"
ReplyDeleteBrad Garrett? seriously?
ReplyDeleteRichard Moll from Night Court?
ReplyDeleteThat "don't die alone" dating site ad is killing me, Larry.
ReplyDeleteBrad Garret maybe? I've no idea.
completely off topic, but TG, now i'll be doing the whole, 'you're killing me, larry!' line all day. *totally miss those commercials*
ReplyDeleteI thought Night Court was more 80's.
ReplyDeleteRaymond is more 2000's.
I think we're missing the obvious.
Saget is pretty tall, but I just saw an advertisement for him doing a casino show.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld?
ReplyDeleteHow tall is John Laroquette? Brad Garrett's a good guess.
ReplyDeleteMy first instinct was John Goodman because of the "beloved" thing. And he's like 6'2. But he still acts alot. Everybody Loves Raymond started in 96 but was on until 2005. So idk if that's 90s or not. Night Court is def 80s though. 84 - 92. Barely 90s.
ReplyDeleteSeinfeld...he's not tall. And Kramer can't fit the "beloved" description since he's gone off the racist deep end.
Brad Garrett's been starring on a series of failed sitcoms. I don't think it's him.
ReplyDeleteSaget was also on Entourage and is the narrator for How I Met Your Mother.
Laroquette is currently on Broadway in How to Succeed...
Richard Moll appears to still be working.
Dunno.
The brother actually went on to his own sitcom (Til Death) until 2010
ReplyDeleteAlso, from wiki
"Garrett was the grand marshal for the Auto Club 500 on February 24, 2008.

Doesn't seem so shy to me.
I'm thinking Kramer
You know, I am about 1-2 degrees of separation from Brad Garrett, and I'm not sure it's him. I'll casually research this.
ReplyDelete"Did you just get cockblocked by Bob Saget?"
ReplyDeleteThis one should be easy but I got nothin'.
ReplyDeleteThis is tough one!
ReplyDeleteCould it be David Schwimmer?
ReplyDeleteTim Allen?
ReplyDeleteJohn Lithgow?
ReplyDeleteMy only other guess is Bill Fagerbakke even though he still seems to be working, but mostly in animation and the occasional HIMYM flashback.
ReplyDeleteJohn Lithgow's a great guess. He's been doing a book tour recently, though. Not the best thing to do for a germophobe.
ReplyDeleteCraig T. Nelson?
ReplyDeleteRyan Styles?
ReplyDeleteBrad Garrett is doing stand-up right now. My ex-husband took our daughter to go see him last weekend at the Hard Rock Casino in FL.
ReplyDeleteLithgow does other things, including art. I think he's also done theater.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Kramer - remember lots of people are assholes and don't care if he went off, or give excuses, or don't even know about his rant. And the cast itself still probably loves him. John Lithgow did All My Son's on Broadway with Katie, and he was terrific.
ReplyDeleteBrad Garrett's in a new, terrible sitcom. I saw it once a couple of months ago. Never again.
ReplyDeleteI like Michael Richards for this.
John Lithgow also just did the movie, "New Years Eve", he played the boss of one of the characters. Yes I saw the movie. Yes I liked it. Yes you may proceed to hit me with a 2x4 now.
ReplyDeleteKramer seems like a good guess. Seinfeld the show made a shit ton of $$. So he could be living off that.
Could it mean beloved - as meaning his character on the show? Thats how I took it and from that my guess is Richards.
ReplyDeleteHarry Anderson, from Night Court... 6'4". Lives in the mountains of NC. Moved there from New Orleans after sighting the depression of watching the town try to rebuild after Katrina. That might cause someone to become reclusive.
ReplyDeleteDavid Schwimmer/Friends?
ReplyDeleteHarry Anderson seems more of a "beloved" type than Kramer.
ReplyDeleteI like the Schwimmer guess, Vixen.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the other guy from "Full House", David (Uncle Joey) Coulier? He tells everyone he is the subject of Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know", btw.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely someone from Friends!!
ReplyDeleteDavid Schwimmer is the least beloved character on Friends.
ReplyDeleteI could see it being Dave Coulier, but isn't he short? I would think a "tall" actor would be anyone over 6'.
Can't be Brad Garrett. He's still working and has quite a few projects coming up.
ReplyDeleteMichael Richards isn't really beloved anymore, though his character still is. He hasn't worked really at all and doesn't have any projects coming up.
Richard Moll has also been working, so I don't think it's him.
@Pooky Me too, sorry about that! :)
ReplyDeleteI meant Pookie!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the Harry Anderson guess. I loved that show.
ReplyDeleteI originally thought Schwimmer too, but I think he's newly married and just became a Dad. Not him.
ReplyDeleteI saw Dave Coulier on tv a few years ago promoting a website that i'm pretty sure was called something like niceguycomedy.com (i could google but...) and it was a place for family friendly viral videos and jokes. It made me sad, I bet Saget made one too many Olsen twins jokes to him!
ReplyDeleteAnyway... I like the Kramer guess. Have no use for Michael Richards now, but you gotta love Kramer.
I'm on board with the Harry Anderson guess. Love him too. One of my favorites from my teens.
ReplyDeleteSchwimmer has a new project coming up. Just read it the other day, but can't remember.
ReplyDeleteHarry Anderson did some work in 2011.
ReplyDeleteThe one that came to my mind was Charles Kimbrough (Jim Dial from Murphy Brown). I checked his Imdb and he hasn't done anything since 2003. I always liked him but he seemed a bit odd.
Anthony Edwards from ER?
ReplyDeleteHarry Anderson seems to have vanished. Richard Moll was also a good guess. Brad Garrett is in Vegas all the time and does commercials for local things here too, not him.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't Harry Anderson. He's still doing shows as a magician and comic, in the southern U.S. And he's not really known for being tall, although he is a lanky guy.
ReplyDeleteI worked on a show with him for a few years. He's an okay guy. Very charming.
Is this guy married? It sounds like Kramer to me because Seinfield was the epitome of a 90's sit-com. Don't think he has done much either.
ReplyDeleteHarry Anderson is married and still working.
I am thinking more the the guy on The Nanny. Charles Sh(long last name), he is about 6 ft and I haven't seen him in forever it seems.
ReplyDeleteCharles Shaughnessey is still working
ReplyDeleteThank God you said something Tempestuous. I didn't know if it was only me. I'd rather die alone, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe tall Giant from Twin Peaks:

LoL.

Howie Mandel since he has OCD would be great for this but he is only 5'10
ReplyDeleteIt isn't Harry Anderson. He lives in the same town as me, see him out about about fairly regularly. Not really what one would call a 'recluse' but I guess anything is possible.
ReplyDelete@car54
ReplyDeleteLooks like Richards (Kramer) Wiki page has been mangled by people having fun. That is one of the funniest Wiki pages I've ever read.
I'm going with Kramer for this blind.
Hey, we need to get David Schwimmer's cousin in here to debunk his guess. Where are you, Gal? :)
ReplyDeleteLisa's got it - Harry Anderson from Night Court!
ReplyDeleteHave no idea if it fits, but my first thought was David Schwimmer from Friends. Not sure if he would be beloved, but the show sure is. And lots of people loved Ross and Rachel.
ReplyDeleteI have arrived, Mooshki! :)
ReplyDeleteHe's newly married and a new dad. I don't think it's David. His mom would probably kick his ass if he got all weird. :)
^I'm not Schwimmer's cousin, but this ain't him. He directed a movie just within the last year or so about an underage girl being "seduced" online by an older man/predator. ReplyDeleteI'm not many degrees from John Lithgow - definitely not him; lonely & paranoid would be the last words to describe him.
ReplyDeleteI like the Schwimmer guess!
I like the Harry Anderson guess, too! (Since Schwimmer sounds debunked.) :)
ReplyDeleteLaw and Order isn't a sitcom, right? Because everyone loved the original DA Ben Stone, played by the very tall Michael Moriarty. ReplyDelete^ *became (not because)
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled to hear that Harry is alive and out and about and working. I always loved his quirky funny humor. I'll still go with Richard Moll, very tall guy. but not lanky, oh well.
ReplyDeleteHowie Mandel barely fits w/ his little-known sitcom (and he's bald because he's scared of germs); but he doesn't seem reclusive at all;.
ReplyDelete...and Jen An is a 'she'...
Mandel I guess.
Mark Curry from Hanging with Mr Cooper is like 6'5" and pretty much disappeared from the public eye after a freak home accident left him with major burns and in a medicated coma. ReplyDeleteMark Curry is a great guess.
