The Musee d'Orsay Needs To Lighten Up

I have to say that the Musee d'Orsay is one of my favorite museums in the world. I like it more than the Louvre because it is way smaller and the restaurant at the museum is really good. Like I get to the museum at 10, and am in the doors of the restaurant right when it opens and I roll out of there a couple of hours later in time for a nap. The only downside? No bacon. That hour or two I spend looking at paintings though is all you need. Everything you could ever want to see is all in one easy place with plenty of places to sit and you don't feel like a rat trapped in a maze like you do at the Louvre. Yeah, you try and drink a bottle of wine or two and then try and figure your way out of the Louvre.

Anyway, the executives at the museum are a little upset because a lingerie company decided to make a little viral video. I don't see anyone looking too upset, but the executives of the museum want to sue. Relax.

  1. There is a reason why you love hanging at the D'Orsay Enty: hushed stillness, surrounded by beauty and history, and a lack of snobbishness that allows you to open up for knowledge.

The musée is not a place for a flashmob. They don't allow advertising inside the museum, and that lingerie strut surprise, screams free advertisement. Although it is not that shocking, this could encourage many others to do the same, and robs all of the quality time they usually look for, specifically at the D'Orsay.

That being said, it's a very standard collection, not special, they really needed the ad advantage!

  2. Having never been to Paris, and my art history days far behind me, I can honestly say I don't know this museum. So score one for the lingerie, I'm officially aware of the D'Orsay!

  3. ^ha! I think the lingerie designer wanted you to be aware of his product, not the museum. He obviously failed with EmEyeKay:)

  4. ^See? The museum shouldn't be upset at all!

The Louvre is extraordinarily large. I have no desire to go back there unless it is a virtual tour or a demand of a close one.

  6. The Louvre is exhausting, and I'm not the biggest fan of Renaissance art, which seems to take up most of it. I spent two nights a week there for an entire semester for an art history class, and I still felt lost.

I love the d'Orsay because it's so open. That's why you don't feel trapped. The windows are so beautiful, and so is the view of the city. I'm no prude, but a historic museum--a place for EDUCATION--is not the place for a friggin lingerie viral video. I'm not surprised they're pissed. I would be, too. Take it somewhere else.

  7. They all looked supremely embarassed. Not the confident women strutting about in their bloomers such as I thought they would.

I was so sick the one time I was in Paris that I barely remember the Musee D'orsay. Still didn't see much of it this time obvs.

  8. i think the plan had potential...just seemed like the implementation and execution needed to have been thought out better...shame, b/c etam makes some damn cute bras.

and in defense of the louvre...until you've stood in front of the code of hammurabi, or taken the inevitable picture of the mona lisa thru the security glass...it's hard to appreciate what it's like to kiss the face of history. impe, d'rsay just doesn't do it for me in the same way.

  9. I mean, I guess it worked 'cuz I now am at least familiar w/the product(s), but I can't say I'm inspired to purchase anything, especially after seeing the thick-waisted chick in the blue.

  10. Musee d'Orsay is fabulous. I'm not into lawsuits, but I could understand why the powers that be at d'Orsay are pissed about this. Flashmobs are SO juvenile/tacky. Not exactly what I want to see while trying to appreciate the amazing artwork of Monet, Degas and Renoir. Seriously. Does everything in this day and age need to be on YouTube or Flashmobbed or texted. God, I'm old. Hee.

  11. Forgot to add: Enty, if you can't find bacon in Paris, I don't know where the eff you're eating?!?!? Lardons are in everything in France.

  12. I'm with Rita, Jolene Jolene and Susan. Musee D'Orsay is a tranquil, beautiful place and I wouldn't want to see this if I were visiting it. In fact, it would straight up piss me off. And I agree with the poster who said the Louvre is exhausting. Unless you have several days to visit, skip it and do D'Orsay and the Picasso Museum instead. Oh and the George Pompidou centre.

  13. ^ agreed. A museum is a place for history and education. Imagine if this were in the middle of a class trip. Not kewl. Not kewl at all.

...Unless perhaps they were strutting it in a "modern" wing. All kinds of crap passes for art at some of those places...

  14. They also go to the Eiffel Tower and the airport, in two other videos, if anyone else is interested in more half naked models. :)
