Movie Theatre Twitter Feed Is Hilarious But Gets Shut Down
A movie theatre in Australia had a great idea. On their website next to the times for the movies they would have a Twitter feed of comments being made on Twitter about the movies playing in the theatre. Gets people excited and you can see a summary perhaps and what people are thinking. The problem is parents and others complained because the Twitter feed was uncensored so you got this quote from someone who had seen War Horse.
"I get that the guy and horse from War Horse were best friends but do you think they were also friends with benefits?"
Want to see The Descendants? You got to see this comment.
"George Clooney is so fu**ing hot"
Apparently people thought it was all inappropriate so the feed was shut down.
It was a Twitter feed? Sooooo - the kids reading it could just as easily gone to Twitter and read the same comments? I'm sorry, but the people who complained need to get a life.
ReplyDeleteAnd to whomever wrote the War Horse comment - bravo!
Everyone wants to be babied now. It's like the world is crumbling around everyone, there is wars, disease, death, destruction, poverty, nations falling apart, and someone wants to be offended over the word fuck.
ReplyDeleteIt's just all so ridiculous.
Well, it seems like a good idea, when people start slamming a movie and someone thinks twice about dragging their ass to the movie theatre. If you can't control what will be displayed, don't do it.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen A&E doing this now during Dog? It's beyond ridiculous because you know it's heavily censored so all the tweets are "This show is so great!" and nonsense like that.
but but but....Clooney IS so fu**ing hot!
ReplyDeleteI can't bring myself to watch War Horse, but that comment was hilarious
Want to see The Descendants? --- yes, I would love to see the old band from Hermosa Beach!
ReplyDeleteWar Horse seems so boring.
ReplyDeleteBut little kids are less likely to have a Twitter account than to search an Internet site for a movie time... not that little kids are that likely to do that.
ReplyDeleteIf you click on the link to the related article, you'll see that a religious group got involved and complained. So we're not dealing with regular people per se, but an organized group.
Anyway, I think it's an interesting idea. It probably just needs to be executed better.
I liked War Horse.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't kick Georgie outta bed. No sirree bob.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do you find it hard to believe that a kid is really going to be reading about either of those movies?
ReplyDeleteThe ACL are a parody of themselves. But since the Tweets were being shown in a public place I guess they Gould have been censored somewhat.
ReplyDeleteSHOULD not Gould.
ReplyDeleteI'd be pretty irritated if I was sitting next to someone that spent the whole movie tweeting.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can't really sensor Twitter, so yes, it was probably a dumb idea on the theater's part.
I wish someone had tweeted how effing slow, predictable & boring Descendants was & I'd have snuck into the next theatre.
ReplyDeleteRubbish idea.
ReplyDeleteIt just encourages people to use their phones in a cinema - one of the main reasons I prefer to now download films rather than go and see them with a crowd of texting, Tweeting, talking, burping morons.
