Melissa McCarthy Is All About Keeping It Real

If you were not a fan of Melissa McCarthy before yesterday Ellen's show, I hope you are now. Very rarely do you see someone or hear an actress talk about how star struck they can get and especially admitting it on national television. When you tell Brangelina they need to be quiet for a second because your brain is on overload by meeting and talking to them, you move to the top of the list of fun people I would like to hang out with. And to tell the story without not wanting to star constantly at Jimmy Kimmel in a dress is something special too.

  1. They all start out like that. Kristin Chenoweth is one I am thinking of. When she first started appearing on talk shows and things, she acted so humble and overwhelmed by her co-stars, etc. A few years later and she acts like the rest (although she is very nice).
At some point, they all eventually become "famous".

  2. Some day, I want the words "Oh my gosh, you're Daniel Craig" to spill out of my mouth.

  3. Hey. I saw Alec Baldwin in the street yesterday, he was with 2 women and still found the time to give me the once over, he looks thinner in person...

  4. I already love her, but that gives me reason to love her more. I'm so glad she's getting recognition and fame.

  5. Well, we can always hope she stays this way, Princess. I love her! (OF COURSE you do, Maja!)

  6. Misch...did you do a lip curl at him, like he was disgusting? In my mind, that's my reaction to him checking me out.

I hope Melissa McCarthy stays this genuine. If she can bottle that up, I could see her hugely successful as a talk show host - the next Oprah. There's something about her that is so relatable.

  7. She's fabulous. Don't ever change, Melissa! I like your down home Burbank mom gig.

  8. Seachica....nope and in truth I was surprised...but yes he is a pig.

  9. The way parissucksliterally feels about the phrase "my bad" is the same way I feel about "keeping it real." I just had to mention that.

    But Melissa really is terrific.

  10. @Ida - I hate "it is what it is."

  11. @Ms Cool -- UUUUUUGH. That's the kind of thing people say when they actually have NO IDEA what they *should* say.

    Drives me BATTY.

  12. @Ida - I know. It is either absolving themselves of any wrongdoing or just plain giving up.

  13. Not to hijack the thread further but I really can't stand "easy peasy," either. I read a lot of craft blogs and it is out there A LOT.

  14. Easy Peasy makes my teeth hurt! HATE that one!

  15. I don't like "cool beans," either...

  16. Love Melissa so much, and have ever since her "Gilmore Girls" days. She was so great on that, too, just like everything else.

  17. The last time she was on Ellen which was only a couple months ago, she talked about walking out of her house and having a full on convo with the construction men doing work on her house only to look down and realize she wasn't wearing any pants. Just spanks. If you come across the video, check it out she is truley hilarious.

  18. "Cool Beans" drives me nuts too! The one that really gets me tho, the one that makes me cringe, is "for sh-ts & giggles" (or grins). Don't understand why people need to say that. Had a boss that said that almost every day. Argh.

  19. All the mentioned phrases drive me bonkers. Who about just a word? Diva. Maybe I watch too much Toddlers and Tiaras but that word is overused and glorified in a way that I don't understand. It isn't a compliment.

  20. That Jimmy Kimmel. I need to make him in a dress my screen saver.

I don't have a particular phrase that drives me nuts. I hate people who are loud talkers (for no reason, and they should be using their inside voice) and people who read their PowerPoint slides. I mean, I can fucking read them myself! What the hell else do you have to say?

  21. @Ms Cool -- what drives me crazy about the ubiquity of "diva" is how NO ONE uses it correctly anymore. It's *supposed* to refer to an opera singer of supreme talent, but it's now used to describe asshole women who speak first and care about other people's feelings last.

  22. It's sad, I love her but cannot watch Mike and Molly (or whatever it's called. I had the series recorded on DVR but could never finish an episode so I gave up.

True story: I was visiting my SIL's mother whose husband had just died hours before. She was surrounded by kids and grandkids and was not holding it together well. Her 13 year old grandson walked up and gave her a hug. He was trying his hardest to be supportive but all we heard him say was....It is what it is.

We could not stop laughing. At least he tried.

  23. Why is jimmy in a dress???

  24. Big love to Melissa, she is so genuine and funny. She would be a great person to hang out with for a day.
As for phrases, though I say it myself once in awhile, we have a friend who replies "Whatever" to practically everything, I want to strangle him with his tongue.

  25. i like her too (sookie!) very pretty face.

  26. it really bothers me when people say they could care less, it is supposed to be couldn't care less.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I use "it is what it is". I usually use it when someone's complaining about something they cannot possibly change and it's my polite way of telling them to get over it.

  28. Love Melissa McCarthy, love Mike & Molly.

I really hate the term "baby bump".

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sad day. Jimmy is a more attractive "woman" than I am.

I still love "Cool beans!" We respond, "Hot peas!" in enthusiastic agreement.

  30. @Skeeball.. THANK YOU! "Could care less" means that you do care a little lol!

  31. @Danielle - I saw that ep! So funny!

@JJ - I laughed so hard at that story.

    She's so cute.

  32. What a talent. She completely stole every scene she was featured in, "Bridesmaids". I mean COMPLETELY. That's all I know her from, but that's enough.

  33. Grrr about "It is what it is" (no offense RQ)
I had a know-it-all roommate for a while. He knew EVERYTHING (you don't even have to ask him. He never shut up)
When called on incorrect info, he would just shrug and say "It is what it is"

OF COURSE IT IS. WHAT ELSE WOULD IT BE??

(sorry for the caps. It just used to drive me insane.)

To me the phrase is akin to "Water is wet" (though I don't mind that one.) I think it was overuse of the phrase that really turned me off to it. Though he did make me laugh once when he dropped a pan of food in the kitchen and somehow came up with "Son of a DAMMIT"

  34. I use nearly all of the above-mentioned irritating phrases. :(
I guess I really AM annoying!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I swear I'm not trying to advertise, but I have a whole category on my blog devoted to annoying words and phrases. If anyone's interested:
    http://leastlikelytoblog.wordpress.com/category/words-i-could-live-without/

"It is what it is" is mentioned.

  36. My husband said to me about an hour ago, "Bitches be crazy". I am still laughing.

Melissa McCarthy made me laugh in every scene of Bridesmaids. I hope to God she wins the Academy Award. The supporting actor/actress category seems to be the only one where you can have a comedy win. The lead actor/actress category is reserved for the mentally ill/handicapped/hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold characters..
