Jeremy Irons Had An Affair With Carly Simon

There is a new book being published about Carly Simon and includes lots and lots of tales of all the guys she put under her spell. What makes this book a little different is that the author is claiming that Carly is the one who told him all the stories so if they are not true, then blame her. Stephen Davis wrote the book and he has written some really good tell all books about musicians in his time. In the book about Carly he says that Carly says that while Jeremy Irons was married, Carly seduced him and convinced him to have an affair with her. First of all, it takes two people to have an affair and just because Carly might have pushing for it, Jeremy could have said the word no. It is an amazing word and if more people used it, the divorce rate would probably not be quite so high. Of course if I used the word no more frequently then I would eat way less fries than I do. "Do you want fries with that?" You know what you do not hear any more? Do you want to Super Size that? Morgan Spurlock got rid of that. I wonder how long it will be before someone brings it back. At some point it will return. It has too. Everyone likes everything bigger and bigger.

Anyway, back to the affair. It happened in 1984 and Carly had just divorced James Taylor because of his coke and heroin problem so she was single. Jeremy was not.

  1. I still haven't forgiven her for the "Tired of Being Blond" song. That thing was terrible!

yeah, he should have said no, but so often people forget that and place the blame solely on the "other woman/man". Though, usually it's on the woman regardless. Look at Meg Ryan for instance.

  2. Wait... JAMES TAYLOR did Heroin??

  3. Carly like Streisand show me and every other woman out here that you don't have to be Hollywood gorgeous to pull some hot men. Sometimes your natural gift/talent is all you need. Go ahead CS, I ain't mad atcha lol

  4. @Danielle - James Taylor was a junkie for a very long time. Google his history.

  5. I think Carly is totally gorgeous, and have you seen her kids with James? WOW. Talk about hitting the genetic jackpot.

I just never thought she'd be interesting enough to merit a Davis biography. His books about Zeppelin and the Stones are riveting. I may have to check this one out.

  6. James Taylor was a big, big drugie...really big.

As for the affair, the famous seems to think they're entitled to do anything they desire...and really who cares ?

  7. ^ James Taylor also beat the crap out of Carly at least once. That was the tipping point which likely ended their marriage.

  8. Not only was Jeremy Irons married but he is still married to the same wife. I think CS should have used more discretion in deciding what to blab about.

  9. Mmmmmm, Carly Simon ...

  10. Carly Simon is hot or at least was in the day. Take a look at some of her album covers. OMG! I have never seen what the kids look like. I'll need to google that.

For some reason Jeremy Irons has always pinged my gaydar. Guess I need to get a new one from Sharper Image.

  11. Check your facts, ENTy. Carly has been VERY, VERY CLEAR that she did NOT grant the author interviews.

Here's her statement from her website:

    Unauthorized Biography Disclaimer

We have been receiving a lot of questions regarding an Unauthorized biography of Carly Simon, that is coming out this month: More Room In A Broken Heart, The True Adventures of Carly Simon by Stephen Davis.

Carly wants to be sure that her fans know that, regardless of what the publisher of the book is advertising, she had nothing to do with the creation of this book and she does not support it in any way. She was not interviewed for this book. There are numerous factual errors, fictional stories, made-up quotes, and “clipped” stories from other books and magazines.

  12. That said, she still might have slept with Irons. She DID cooperate with a book called Girls Like Us, a bio of Simon, Joni Mitchell and Carole King (the latter two did not cooperate). Carly was very open about her sexuality. There was a lot of hooking up in those days. And yes, Danielle, James Taylor was a terrible, horrible, heroin addict. He was awful to Carly and a totally absent father to his children with her.

  13. If anyone wants to hear a great interview with Carly Simon with lots of dirt included, look up Carly Simon on Howard Stern show on YouTube. Excellent interview!

I'm getting ready to cue up some Carly Simon on the iPod. Thanks for the idea, ENT.

  15. Didn't Carly like the cocaine back in the day? I think she had a good time with more guys than just Jeremy.

  16. Did this happen in the second half of '84 when he and his wife (sorry, I can't remember her name) were in NY so she could appear with Derek Jacobi and the Royal Shakespeare Company in "Cyrano" ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. BTW, at the time the thinking in NYC was that Taylor had divorced Simon *because* the unstable life with her had made it difficult for him to remain sober and he was transitioning (polite term) to Kathryn Walker.

  18. It's so funny you guys are talking about JT. I live in western Massachusetts and tickets just went on sale for his Tanglewood performance. He's a huge draw.
He carried on, oh did he ever, in th 70's. If I am not mistaken, I think he ended up in the psych ward for a bit too.

Google The Red Lion Inn, yup that was/is his fav.

He is very, very nice man NOW, not then.

  19. So what. I find it more offensive that a ONCE serious journalist like Barbara Walters confessed to having an affair with a married politico.. Then had the nerve to interview Jenny Sanford all supportive of her.

  20. Carly, like many other famous celebs, basically had her pick of guys and she went for them. Mama Cass's sister tells of the time her drummer husband was hired to work with Carly and she came in and found Carly sitting on his lap. They later did have an affair - while he (Russ Kunkel) was working as a drummer for her then-ex husband James Taylor. It got tense and Russ lost his job.

As Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors mentioned, there's a terrific book called Girls Like Us that covers the careers and personal lives of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon. A very good read, and it proves that woman can and will cat around with men every bit as much as men do. Carly was described as having quite the sex drive and that she had many, many flings, affairs, and relationships. All of them had their share of boytoys, too.

  21. I still want to know who You're So Vain is about. One of her friends (David Geffen, maybe?) says that he won the right for her to spill the name at a charity event. She told her friend the name of the guy, but the friend says he's keeping her secret.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Their son sounds just like JT as well!

I always thought that Carly wrote that about Warren Betty?

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ Danielle - The song "Fire and Rain" is supposed to be about his fight against his addiction.

@ JoElla - I've heard "You're So Vain" is about Jagger or Beatty, but the prevailing opinion seems to indicate the latter.

And WOW, Jeremy is HOT in that pic!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, I heard it is definitely Beatty...but who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  25. @nolachickee It was Dick Ebersol who officially knows the You're So Vain secret. He had to sign a contract. He was legally allowed to tell one other person (presumably his wife Susan Saint James).

That's a pretty sweet charity auction prize! I'd go to the mat for that one!

You guys can probably tell I'm a big Carly Simon fan.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Myabe it's common knowledge, but did you know it's Jagger singing the back-up vocals on You're So Vain?

    ReplyDelete
  27. @VeryUnseemly -- I sort of found that out for myself a few years ago, and googled it to make sure I wasn't just imagining his voice. It's one of my favorite music trivia nuggets. :)

  29. Back in 1984-85 I was staying in the Fairmont in Boston and ran into Jeremy Irons buying perfume -- Jean-Louis Scherrer -- for his wife (or so he said) in a small shop off the lobby. After he left, I bought the same and wore it for years. BTW, he was a bit scruffy that day, but still a very handsome man.

  30. I read a co-star's comment awhile back that Jeremy Irons was the most boring person he'd ever met and that this co-star's idea of hell would be getting stuck in an elevator with Jeremy Irons. Maybe he was better in the sack than outside of it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. interesting....lol

  32. Carly Simon also admitted now long ago to be of mixed race. She also was one of Jackie Kennedy's best friends and spend time with her in her last days.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Back in prehistoric times, when I was dating Sofia Coppola (about 100 years ago), Carly Simon tried to seduce me too. At a party. In public. After 48 bottles of wine.

I politely declined and she asked me (drunkenly) if it was "the age thing". I smiled, slowly rubbed my finger down the nape of her neck and whispered in a low breathy voice into her ear: "No dear. It's the I'm in love with someone else THING."
I've seen her several times since and she never speaks to me. I was kinda hoping she'd say I was soooo vain though :-(

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors - thank you for the clarification!

Mick and Warren are the popular guesses, but Carly has inferred that it's someone else.

  35. Jeremy owns a castle in the town my parents are from in Ireland.

I saw Carly on the beach in Martha's Vineyard a couple years ago. She is SKIIINY.

  36. After seeing the album jacket for her greatest hits album (and which I damn near wore out playing as a teenager), my mother has forever after referred to Carly as "that tawny wench." Yes, my mother has quite a sense of humor... :-) FWIW, a FOAF apparently met her & James Taylor at one point in the '70s, and reported back that "she's even prettier than her album covers!"

(Himmmm, you naughty boy...perhaps if you'd let her keep going, you might have made it into a song that way...Damn your sense of honor and decency! ;-) )

    ReplyDelete
  37. ROBIN????!!??
How dare you besmirch my sense of honor??

Seriously, it wasn't out of honor. Sofia would've lopped off my balls and fed them to Francis.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Himmmm: Ah, well...doubtless you're glad things worked out as they did, and you still have your balls (which must be basketball-sized, if what you post & your sense of humor is any indication *grin*). Oh, and the Durgin Park dinner offer still stands--you, too, Enty!
