The first reports I saw about Gene Hackman being in a car accident made it seem like he was fighting for his life and seconds away from death. Why is it when a celebrity gets into any kind of accident, 99% of the time the announcement is way more serious than the reality of the situation. Case in point with Gene.
Gene was hit by a car while riding his bike. That could be dangerous and he was allegedly airlifted to a trauma unit which would seem to say that he was near death. The reality is though that Gene was released from the hospital after a couple of hours and had some bumps and bruises after a woman in a car bumped the back of his bike while she was driving slowly and accidentally knocked the bike over.
Could have been from making sure he had no internal bleeding, etc.
ReplyDeletehe is 81 years old and head trauma as we all know can go bad very quickly.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder if he wasn't who he was would he of been air lifted to the hospital vs. ambulance.
I've always had a crush on him, Uncommon Valor and the Bird Cage two of my fave films with him and those are the first two that come to mind... Glad he's doing ok.
ReplyDeleteI wish he were still acting. I'm glad he is ok.
ReplyDeleteLove him, never realized he was 81....
ReplyDeletethank goodness he is ok. that is why I don't ride a bike.
ReplyDeletethe helicopter was because he was on an island
ReplyDeleteIt's funny when the media blow things out of proportion, right? Like this or like insisting JLo give money back because Fiat funds terrorists. Oh wait...
ReplyDeleteGlad he's okay. I've always loved him.
ReplyDeleteGlad he is fine- it they elected to fly him vis helicopter, you can bet your bibby he will be charged- in the County I live, they just don't throw away $$ to fly anyone from the scene. private charter ambulance is available and in the air in less than 6 minutes from a major city these days.
ReplyDeleteGene Hackmen crusher here too. HEIST is my favorite...
Sexy ol' coot, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteI think they want to Cover Their A**es just in case that celebrity dies so they can say "we were the first to report....." Plus, don't some (all? not really sure) of the websites get paid based on the number of clicks they get in a day? I know when I saw the headline, I clicked the link myself as we love him at our house
ReplyDeleteYeah I remember catching a glimpse of a headline line and thinking it was not going to end well. I'm so glad he's ok!
ReplyDeleteTimebob, my mom's friend's daughter who is not a celeb was recently hit by a car and transported by helicopter to a trauma hospital, at a cost of $20,000. Eek! And she was about a half-hour's drive away by ambulance. I think they generally are extremely cautious when a head injury is involved. It could be just a bump, but as we all learned from Natasha Richardson, it could be severe, and time is of the essence. This girl did end up with brain damage, and the speed of her transport probably saved her from death.
ReplyDeleteI used to always get Gene Hackman and Gene Wilder mixed up (name wise).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's ok. News reports made it sound like he was in the ICU.
